FOSTER HOME AGREEMENT WITH NORTHERN CALIFORNIA SLED DOG RESCUE (NORSLED) The Foster Individual(s) (hereafter referred to as Fosterer) represent(s) that no member of the family in contact with the Rescue dog has been charged with cruelty to animals and agree(s) to accept the following conditions and restrictions in order to be eligible to provide a foster home for Northern California Sled Dog Rescue (hereafter referred to as NorSled): Section 1: Care and Treatment of Rescue Dog 1. The Fosterer agrees to house the Rescue dog and provide a safe and comfortable environment for the Rescue dog as part of the family. 2. The Fosterer will comply with Local Animal Ordinances. The Rescue dog s yard and kennel area will be kept clean. 3. The Rescue dog will be fed daily and have access to fresh drinking water at all times. 4. The Fosterer will provide the Rescue dog with a securely fenced yard for exercise and/or will walk the dog on a leash daily. At no time will the Rescue dog be allowed to run loose off leash outside of a fenced area, tied outside for any extended period of time or left on a chain. At other times the Rescue dog will be kept indoors or within a kennel run. 5. The Fosterer will provide the Rescue dog with the time, affection, care and attention necessary to ensure its health and wellbeing. This will include providing sufficient food, shelter, fresh water, exercise, competent veterinary care, annual vaccinations, worming, prompt veterinary care in the event of illness or injury and the scheduled administration of flea and heartworm preventative. 6. The Fosterer, when away from home for more than a 24 hour period, will advise the rescue coordinator so that alternative arrangements can be made for the Rescue dog s care during that time. 7. The Fosterer acknowledges that their residence, if rented, permits pets pursuant to the lease, or by special permission of the landlord or resident manager. 8. The Fosterer agrees that the Rescue dog will never be attack- or guard-trained or used as a property guard dog. Further, the Rescue dog will not be used in any aspect of dog/animal fighting. 9. The Fosterer will provide the Rescue dog with the training necessary to enhance the dog s adoptability: this can include leash, crate and obedience training, and house breaking.
10. The Fosterer promises that the Rescue dog will not be abused in any manner, beaten or otherwise treated cruelly, and will not be the subject of, or subjected to, any biological, chemical, psychological, or other experiment. 11. The Fosterer will notify the Rescue Coordinator immediately upon learning that the Rescue dog is lost, stolen or impounded by Animal Control. 12. The Fosterer shall not give, lease, or otherwise transfer custody of the Rescue dog to any other person, business or organization. 13. The Fosterer will notify the Rescue Coordinator immediately of the Rescue dog s death or serious illness. In the case of death, the remains of the dog must be available for inspection/necropsy. Section 2: Administrative 1. The Fosterer will promptly notify the Rescue Coordinator and Treasurer of all and any changes in residence, mailing address, email address and/or telephone number(s). 2. The Fosterer will maintain an Expense Log for each Rescue dog in his care and provide to the Treasurer a copy of the log along with receipts for all qualifying expenses in order to reimbursed by NorSled. 3. The Fosterer will make reasonable efforts to bring the Rescue dog to at least one event per month unless otherwise agreed upon by the Rescue Coordinator. 4. The Fosterer will make reasonable efforts to respond to inquiries from potential adopters within 24 hours or 1 business day of receipt. 5. The Fosterer will notify the Rescue Coordinator within 4 hours of any bite inflicted on a human requiring medical care or reported to Animal Control. 6. The Fosterer will notify the Rescue Coordinator within 8 hours in the event that the Rescue dog inflicts injuries to another animal that: a) requires veterinary care; b) is reported to Animal Control; c) results in the death of another animal. 7. The Fosterer recognizes the need to ensure that the Rescue dog is receiving proper and humane care, and agrees to allow inspection of the foster home and the conditions in which the Rescue dog is living at any reasonable time by a representative of NorSled. 8. The Fosterer agrees to immediately surrender custody of the Rescue dog to a rescue representative upon demand. The Fosterer agrees that the Foster individual(s) has/have no legal ownership and will not obtain any legal rights to the Rescue dog in their care.
9. Should it be necessary to litigate in connection with any dispute concerning the care, treatment, and/or custody of a rescue animal directly under the care of the Fosterer, the foster individual(s) agree(s) to pay all court costs and reasonable attorney fees. 10. The Fosterer agrees that although NorSled has made reasonable efforts to provide a Rescue dog which is compatible with the foster individual's environment, NorSled does not warrant the temperament or behavior of the Rescue dog and that NorSled is not to be held liable for any acts of the Rescue dog while living in the Foster home. The Fosterer agrees to notify the Rescue Coordinator immediately if they believe the temperament or behavior of the Rescue dog is incompatible with the foster home environment or as an adoptable dog. 11. The Fosterer states that they have reasonable knowledge about the proper care of dogs. 12. The Fosterer agrees to be responsible for the proper supervision of the Rescue dog in their possession. Should NorSled suffer any damages or legal costs as a result of the negligent supervision of the Rescue dog in the Fosterer's care, the Fosterer agrees to notify the Rescue Coordinator of all such damages and costs. 13. The Fosterer agrees that the Rescue dog will remain in the control of a member of NorSled at all times when away from the Foster home. 14. The Fosterer agrees that adoption of the Foster dog will be done in accordance with the policies found in the NorSled Volunteer/Foster Handbook. The Fosterer shall not otherwise sell, loan or give the Rescue dog away. All adoptions shall be done through the auspices of NorSled. 15. The Fosterer acknowledges that the purpose of NorSled in establishing the conditions in this agreement is to safeguard the health and well-being of the Rescue dog, to protect the Rescue dog against neglect, abuse and cruelty and to temporarily house a Rescue dog until a permanent home is found.
