President s Message, Next Meeting 7:00 PM February 12, 2018 General Club Business Who loves ya baby? Why your dog does, of course! One of the reasons we are drawn to dogs is because of the unconditional love they give us.training is a great way to build on the love you already have for each other. During this month of love with Valentines Day on Center Stage, commit to teaching your dog something new. A new game or trick or obedience behavior keeps your dog working mentally and keeps their mind sharp. And it has been documented that the physical activity required to care for a dog improves the owner s health too. Talk about a win-win! Do your friends know you are a member of the Obedience Club? If not, be sure to tell them and let them know about the fun you have with your dog. You might be surprised at the number of people who would like help with their dog s behavior but don t know where to look. OCOD offers some of the best training, at a good price, in one of the best dog training facilities in the Southeast. Let s not keep it a secret. Pat Mozden

Military Working Dogs At the January meeting Sandy Bailey presented her efforts to help Ralph Orlando with Military Working Dogs and my journey with legislation. Below is a way that you might be able to help. Congressman Ron DeSantis has proposed legislation to help veterans with PTSD acquire a service dog - Puppies Assisting Wounded Service members (PAWS) Act. Under the bill the Veterans Administration would pay third-party dog training organizations for the dogs they provide to veterans in the program. The bill would authorize $27,000 for the VA to spend on each dog from an organization accredited by Assistance Dog International. It also includes VA health insurance for the dog. In total the PAWS Act allocates $10 million to fund the pilot program. The bill is also requiring the VA to provide veterinary care for the dog, that is a huge benefit to the soldier. So far Congressman DeSantis has over 140 members on board for this, but we need more. While it great to call DeSantis and share your support for this bill, we need everyone to call their friends and family out of our district and encourage those Congressman to get on board and support this bill.
