So. What do we do with these OIE- listed diseases? What types of information should Members provide to the OIE regarding these listed disease? Why collect all this information? How is this information processed and accessible?

LEGAL OBLIGATIONS Since its creation in 1924 both the OIE and its Members have unconditional duties to disclose all relevant information on animal diseases
LEGAL OBLIGATIONS These obligations are stated in The OIE Organic Statutes (since 1924) The OIE Codes (updated annually)
LEGAL OBLIGATIONS The OIE Codes Chapter 1.1. Notification of Diseases and Epidemiological Information Aquatic Code Article 1.1.2. : Members shall make available to other Members, through the OIE, whatever information is necessary to minimise the spread of aquatic animal diseases and their aetiological agents and to assist in achieving better worldwide control of these diseases.
TYPES OF REPORTS Immediate notification of disease, infection or unusual epidemiological events Weekly reports: Follow-ups to the immediate notification Final report : - if the outbreaks have ended - if the situation becomes endemic early warning Six-monthly report Annual report monitoring

OIE S EARLY WARNING SYSTEM Reporting Timeframes Immediate notification within 24 hours Follow-up report weekly report Follow-up to the immediate notification to inform on changes in the epidemiological situation Final report
REASONS FOR IMMEDIATE NOTIFICATION WITHIN 24 HOURS 1 - The first occurrence / re-occurrence of a listed disease and/or infection in a country or zone/compartment that was previously considered to be free of that particular disease; or
REASONS FOR IMMEDIATE NOTIFICATION WITHIN 24 HOURS 2 - for diseases listed by the OIE, if the disease has occurred in a new host species; or 3 - for diseases listed by the OIE, if the disease has occurred with a new pathogen strain or in a new disease manifestation; or
REASONS FOR IMMEDIATE NOTIFICATION WITHIN 24 HOURS 4 - for diseases listed by the OIE, if the disease has a newly recognised zoonotic potential; or 5 - for diseases not listed by the OIE, if there is a case of an emerging disease or pathogenic agent should there be findings that are of epidemiological significance to other countries.
Reporting obligations Reporting (regular and immediate notification) of aquatic animal diseases does not require the presence of clinical disease or mortality. The Aquatic Code (Article 1.1.2.) clarifies that: The presence of an infectious agent, even in the absence of clinical disease, should be reported.
OIE s monitoring system Six-monthly report - the absence or presence of OIE-listed diseases - evolution of all listed diseases - findings of epidemiological importance to other Members with respect to diseases not listed by OIE
OIE s monitoring system Annual report The sum of information of the two six-monthly reports of a given year and: non OIE-listed diseases; human resources in Veterinary Services; National Reference Laboratories; animal census (by first administrative division); zoonoses (human cases and deaths); production of vaccines.

WORLD ANIMAL HEALTH INFORMATION DATABASE (WAHID) A comprehensive range of information is available from: Immediate notifications and follow-up reports submitted by Members in response to exceptional disease events occurring in these countries as well as follow-up reports about these events, Six-monthly reports describing the OIE-listed disease situations in each country Annual reports providing further background information on animal health, animal production, laboratory and vaccine production facilities, etc.
WORLD ANIMAL HEALTH INFORMATION DATABASE (WAHID) The international community can explore available information: by country (or group of countries), by disease, focusing on control measures, or comparing the aquatic animal health situation between two countries.

National focal points for aquatic animals ToR Support collection and submission of aquatic animal disease information to the OIE through WAHIS (coordinated with Focal Point for Terrestrial Animal Disease Notification, when relevant); Act as a contact point with the OIE Animal Health Information Department in relation to information on aquatic animals and disease.
