ALL SPECIALS MUST BE COLLECTED FROM THE RESPECTIVE CLUB SECRETARIES WITHIN 14 DAYS FROM THE DATE OF THE SHOW ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ WEIGHING OF MINIATURE DACHSHUNDS -The desired maximum weight of Miniature Dachshunds is 11 lbs (5kg). The committee wishes to make it clear to exhibitors that the health and welfare of all dogs entered at SDA events is of the highest importance. The Animal Welfare Act became law in England on 6 th April 2007. The focus is now on the responsibility of the owner, as seen in the Duty of Care. Those who own a dog are legally responsible for its welfare, otherwise they may be found to be committing a Welfare Offence. The Committee will take action against any exhibitors who are found to be depriving their dogs of water and/or food in order to meet the desired maximum weight requirement for Miniatures in the Breed Standard. Exhibits which appear thin and undernourished will be seriously penalised by judges. * CANCELLATION OR POSTPONEMENT * In the event of the Southern Dachshund Association Show having to be cancelled or postponed, dependant upon whether catalogues have been printed: a) Before printing - A full credit will be allocated to offset entry at the next SDA show. b) After printing - A credit will be allocated for the entry fees to be offset at the next SDA show and catalogues can be obtained by forwarding a request with a stamped addressed envelope to the Secretary. c) If a refund of entry fees is required instead, application to be forwarded to the Secretary with a stamped addressed envelope within 2 weeks of notification of cancellation or postponement. 6

DEFINITIONS OF CLASSES (the word dog includes both sexes) In the following Definitions, a Challenge Certificate includes any Show award that counts towards the title of Champion under the Rules of any governing body recognised by the Kennel Club. Wins at Championship Shows in Breed classes where Challenge Certificates are not on offer shall be counted as wins at Open Shows In the case of a dog owned in partnership and entered in Members classes or competing for Members Specials, each partner must at the time of entry be a member of the Society. In estimating the number of awards won, all wins up to and including the seventh day before the date of closing of entries shall be counted when entering for any class, i.e. Friday 4th May 2012. Wins in Variety classes do not count for entry in Breed classes but when entering for Variety classes, wins in both Breed and Variety classes must be counted. A First Prize does not include a Special Prize of whatever value. A dog is not eligible for entry in Variety classes unless also entered and subsequently exhibited in a Breed class where such a class is provided for which it is eligible. If an exhibitor reports before the judging of a class or classes that a dog has been entered which is ineligible, the exhibitor may choose one of the following options: (1) WITHDRAWAL The dog may be withdrawn from competition subject to the conditions of Regulations 9(j) and 20. (2) TRANSFER a) If a dog is ineligible for a class or classes as regards its breed, colour, sex, weight or height the Show Secretary shall transfer it to the equivalent class or classes for the correct breed colour, sex, weight or height and, in the event of there being no equivalent class, Minor Puppy and Puppy excepted, to the Open class for the correct breed, colour, sex, weight or height. b) For an exhibit entered incorrectly in a Minor Puppy class or Puppy class, which is over age but under twelve calendar months of age or eighteen calendar months of age respectively, the Show Secretary shall transfer the exhibit to the Puppy class or the Junior class respectively for the correct breed, colour, sex, weight or height and in the event of there being no Puppy class or Junior class respectively, to the Open class for the correct breed, colour, sex, weight or height. c) For any reason other than the above, the Show Secretary shall transfer it to the Open class for the correct breed, colour, sex, weight or height. d) If an exhibit arrives late and misses a class, even if it is the only class in which the dog is entered, the dog may not be transferred to any other class. A puppy is a dog of six and not exceeding twelve calendar months of age on the day of the Show. Where the Best of Breed, or Best in Show is a puppy it will automatically be Best Puppy in Breed and Best Puppy in Show respectively. Similarly, if the Reserve Best of Breed or Reserve Best in Show is a puppy which has only been beaten by an adult dog it will also automatically be Best Puppy in Breed and Best Puppy in Show respectively. Consequently, selection of Best Puppy in Breed and Best Puppy in Show must follow the selection of Best of Breed and Best in Show respectively. - Best Puppy in Show must be selected from puppies which have been judged and which are unbeaten by any other puppy. Reserve Best in Show must be selected from dogs beaten only by the dog declared Best in Show. Dogs which become eligible for Best in Show may be withdrawn from all other competition, other than breed classes and Best of Breed, prior to the competition for Best in Show, in order to remain unbeaten. Proviso: For the purpose of this Regulation, dogs beaten in competition for Stud Dog, Brood Bitch, Progeny, Brace and Team or a Special Award confined to a single breed, will not be considered to be beaten dogs. 8

13. Exhibits will not be admitted to Best in Show competition after a period of ten minutes has elapsed since the announcement that exhibits are required for judging, unless they have been unavoidably delayed by previous judging not being completed on time, and then only with the special permission of the Show Management 14. No modifications will be made to this Schedule except by permission of the General Committee of the Kennel Club, which will be followed by advertisement in the Canine Press wherever possible. 15. All exhibitors must be familiar with Kennel Club Regulation F (Annex B) - Regulations for the Preparation of Dogs for Exhibition. 16. All dogs resident outside the UK must be issued with a Kennel Club Authority to Compete number before entry to the show can be made. All overseas entries without an Authority to Compete number will be returned to the exhibitor. 17. DOGS IN CARS ON HOT DAYS Your dog is vulnerable and at risk during hot weather and the Kennel Club offers the following advice to help guide you through the do s and don ts, traveling to and whilst at KC licensed events. When traveling to a show, please consider whether the route to the show is on a busy holiday route and leave earlier to avoid increased time in traffic jams If your vehicle is not air-conditioned, seriously consider whether traveling to the show is a good idea at all The vehicle should be as fully ventilated as possible and plenty of stops should be taken, with lots of water available to drink Ensure your dog is not sitting in full sunlight. There should be plenty of free-flowing air around the dog When at the show, never leave your dog in the vehicle Keep the dog in the shade; take your own shade, for example a large umbrella, and always have plenty of water available to drink, so your dogs stays well hydrated Avoid your dog taking part in unnecessary exertion, or from standing in exposed sunlight for extended lengths of time Remember, if you feel hot, your dog is very likely to feel much hotter and dehydrated, and this could lead to dire results. Please look after your dog s welfare. WARNING: IF YOUR DOG IS FOUND TO BE AT RISK, FORCIBLE ENTRY TO YOUR VEHICLE MAY BE NECESSARY WITHOUT LIABILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED. Anyone whose dog is entered at a Kennel Club licensed event should take all reasonable steps to ensure the needs of their dog(s) are met and should not put a dog s health and welfare at risk by any action, default, omission, or otherwise. Breach of Kennel Club Regulations in this respect may be referred to the General Committee for disciplinary action under Kennel Club Rules and Regulations. 18. Should any judge be unable to fulfil their appointment, the Committee reserve to themselves the right to appoint another in their place. 19. Right to refuse entries: Exhibitors are reminded that show societies have the right, under Kennel Club Regulations, to refuse entries. 20. Any owner, competitor, handler or other person in charge of a dog is required to remove as soon as possible any fouling caused by their dog(s) at any Kennel Club licensed show within the licensed venue and within the environs of that event, including car and caravan parks and approaches. 9
