THE BARBADOS KENNEL CLUB All Breeds Championship Dog Show - October 5th, 2014 Judge: Mr. Tom Mather It was a great pleasure to be invited to judge the The Barbados Kennel Club Show. There were some lovely dogs present and without exception all of the dogs were clean and well presented. Temperaments were excellent, I understand that the KC hold training classes in the run-up to the show and this had obviously paid dividends for some of the exhibits. The show was judged on the Group system and at the conclusion of judging I was presented with a book published by the Barbados National Trust; thank you, it will be a great memento of a wonderful trip to your lovely island. Best in Show was the Irish Setter, Sh Ch Fearnley Fire Storm of Moorlands CD. Bred in the UK by the late Pat Rhodes I can't help but think she would be very proud of him. He has a lovely noble head with a kind expression. Strong nicely arched neck, well laid shoulders. Well boned. Deep chest and good ribs which extend well back. In excellent form and muscular condition although perhaps not the fullest of coat. However he has nothing to hide and standing in the sunlight with his gleaming rich copper coat I thought he was rather special. Reserve Best in Show was the Japanese Shiba Inu, Ch Calicelesti The One N'Only at Massima. Best Locally Bred BIS was the Retriever (Labrador) Theberton Titmouse of Zinzara. This bitch came from the breed entry that produced the greatest in depth quality and is, I see, a daughter of the BOB winner. Best Puppy in Show was a lovely Bouvier Des Flandres, Chepam Valentina at Calliope. Best Locally Bred Puppy in Show the GSD, Skye Coco. TERRIER GROUP Bull Terrier Dog Puppy 1 st - Messrs. L. & C. Mark s BLUEPOINT IMPERIAL BLACK, Imp. - Only one exhibit but he provided a really good start to the day. A tricolour puppy of some quality. Strong and muscular with a lovely, well filled head of good length. Good dentition. Strong neck of good length. Excellent forehand with good strong bone and decent feet. Good spring of rib but a tad too long in loin for perfection. Strong well muscled hindquarters. Moved out well with a free, easy stride with some drive from the rear. CC, Best Terrier and RBPIS.

GUNDOG GROUP Retrievers (Golden) Dogs Minor Puppy 1 st - Mrs. L. Husband s HOLDERS SAPPHIRE SKY, Imp. - Well balanced with good bone and a very attractive head and expression. Good forehand with well laid shoulders and plenty of forechest. Deep well sprung ribs and strong short loin. Moved well both ways and shown in good form. Res. CC. Best L/B, Best Gundog Puppy. 2 nd - Mrs. D. Marshall s THATCHERS DANCE WITH WOLVES - Another youngster with a pleasing head, kind expression, good pigmentation. Not quite the strength of forehand of the winner but well bodied with good spring of rib and level topline. With a little more practice he will make a good showman. 3 rd - Mr. M. Armstrong s HOLDERS IMPERIAL TOPAZ - Less finished than the two above him but with a pleasing masculine head and kind expression. Shown in good coat and condition. His hind action lets him down and his rear pasterns could be a shade shorter. Maiden 1 st - Mr. J.S. Corbin s BUZZ LIGHTYEAR DE RIA VELA, Imp. - A very good moving sound and typical dog, handsome head with good pigmentation, bite just acceptable, good forehand with decent bone. Good depth and length of rib. Tending to be a little proud of his tail on the move. Shown in first class condition. Open 1 st - Mrs. J. Ray s SH.CH. FENWOOD LOUIS VUITTON OF THATCHER C.D., Imp. - Soundly made all through and very pleasing for both balance and type. Lovely typical temperament with a soft expression. Good forehand, well boned with decent well padded compact feet. Very good tail set and carriage. His movement was sound and true. CC & RBOB. Retrievers (Golden) - Bitches Minor Puppy 1 st - Mrs. A. Barnett s THATCHERS RIVER DANCE - Just 6 months old and still very raw and babyish. Feminine head with dark well pigmented eye and kind expression. Could be a little stronger in bone, well ribbed with good topline and tailset. Hind action could be stronger but pleasing in profile. Maiden 1 st - Mrs. L. Husbands & Mrs. J. Ray s ANGELUSPARK HEAVENS GIFT TO THATCHER, Imp. - Well balanced and soundly made with good deep ribs and strong short loin. Pleasing head with gentle expression, dark eye and good pigment. Bite just acceptable. Moves out really well in profile but in the challenge the winner just had a shade more drive from the rear. Reserve CC. Limit 1 st - Mrs. J. Ray s NANCY DE RIA VELA AT THATCHER, Imp. - Feminine with a lovely head and expression. Very typical both in make and shape and temperament. Good forehand with compact, well padded feet. Strong well ribbed body. Very easy fluid profile action and true both coming and going. CC & BOB.

Retrievers (Labrador) Dog I was impressed by the overall quality of the exhibits in this breed. Junior 1 st - Mr. E. Maynard s ALLENIE S WAIT AND WONDER, Imp. - Handsome and very typical with good breadth of skull, kind eye, clean strong neck, well laid shoulders and good bone, legs and compact well padded feet. Strong well ribbed body with good breadth of loin. Free moving with a hard, double coat and good tail. CC. Retrievers (Labrador) Bitches Puppy 1 st - Mr. E. Maynard s PITNEZE PRINCESS LEA, Imp. - A very good moving bitch of pleasing type and balance. Excellent coat and tail. Kind expression, good depth of chest, well sprung ribs and short coupled. Reserve CC. Junior 1 st - Mrs. Z. Gray-Marshall s THEBERTON TITMOUSE OF ZINZARA - Very typical head and expression. Good forehand, pleasing bone and feet. Well ribbed and short coupled. Very good coat and broad otter tail. Very pleasing profile action covering a fair amount of ground. Best Locally Bred in Show. Open 1 st - Mrs. Z. Gray-Marshall s SH.CH. CROSSCROYDE CALYPSO MAGIC FOR THEBERTON, Imp. - A top quality black bitch, very well balanced with decent length of leg and looks capable of a day's work. Excellent head and kind expression. Good depth and breadth of chest with well sprung barrel ribs and short loin. Good coat and tail. She has a powerful, easy action and is true both coming and going. CC, BOB and Group 2. 2 nd - Mrs. S.H. Leacock s SH.CH. LINTHWAITE FANTINE OF THEBERTON, Imp. Yellow with a feminine, gentle expression, well laid shoulders, good spring of rib. Good topline and tailset. She couldn't match the very positive hind action of the winner and her underline makes her look a little matronly. Retrievers (Flat Coated) Dog Limit 1 st - Miss A. Corbin s CANDIDACASA WATERLOO, Imp. - Very typical head and expression, large black nose. Good neck and shoulders, pleasing forehand with depth of chest, strong straight legs and well padded feet. Well ribbed and short coupled. Moved out well with an easy positive stride. CC & BOB. Retrievers (Flat Coated) Bitch Open 1 st - Miss A. Corbin s SH.CH. PARADISE CASH AND PRIZES - Feminine and with a lovely head and expression. Good depth and breadth of chest, well ribbed up and with good topline and tailset. Very good profile action, just a tad wide in front when coming back to me. CC. Irish Setter Dog Open 1 st - Mr. & Mrs. A. Moore s SH.CH. FEARNLEY FIRE STORM OF MOORLANDS C.D., Imp. BIS

Holder & Master K. Holder s CROWNRIDGE FLASH FORWARD Strong and athletic with clearly defined ridge and crowns. Sound and true on the move although not quite the freedom of the winner. CC and Group 2. UTILITY GROUP Akitas Dog Open 1 st - Mr. & Mrs. R.O. Alleyne s HALF BLOOD PRINCE - Very typical in outline with a good skull, well placed fairly small ear. Moderately well laid shoulder, nicely arched neck. Good tailset and carriage. Good hind action, a little wide in front when coming back to me. Could be heavier boned. Shows well and in good coat. CC. French Bulldogs Bitch Open 1 st - Mr. H. Jordan s CH. JAFRAK DORADA, Imp. - A lovely quality bitch of good size and balance. Excellent head properties with adequate width of skull, good ear set and nicely finished muzzle with good cushioning. Straight, strong front legs. Cobby with decent cut up and slight rise over the loin. Very good hind action. CC, BOB and Group 2. Japanese Shiba Inu Dogs Junior 1 st - Mr. A. Taylor s MASSIMA NO ONE GREATER - Black and tan. Good head with small, well placed ears and dark almond eye. Excellent forehand with some forechest and deep brisket. High set, well carried tail. Evelyn Q.C. s HOTHERSALL S SAMSON - Brindle of good quality and type, pleasing head - broad and deep. Very well balanced with moderately angulated hindquarters. Not quite the powerful hind action of the winner. Reserve CC & RBOB. Bullmastiffs Bitches Novice 1 st - Mr. M.J. Koeiman s FORTESQUE ALBERTA - Quite typical with a decent head and good expression. Good forehand with adequate bone and broad, deep chest. Well bodied but her undercarriage spoils her outline somewhat. Could be a little more powerful on the move. Limit 1 st - Mr. B.A. Bascombe s ZAHARA BULLS KATNISS AT NEXGEN - Soundly made with a decent head, good breadth of chest, well laid shoulder. Well balanced and very typical in outline. Could be more powerful on the move. Reserve Best Bitch. Open 1 st - Mr. R. Front movement ok but very close behind and not much power. Best Bitch. 2nd - Mr. B. Lowe s FOUL BAY LADY ANN - Good sized skull and blunt muzzle but rather plainer in head than the winner and couldn't quite match her firm topline. Well ribbed. Hind action could be stronger. Rottweilers Dogs Puppy 1 st - Dr. W.L. Welch s ELTHOR DARK IGOR - Presents a very typical pleasing outline, good breadth of skull, alert kindly expression. Good forehand with adequate bone, still needs to develop in body but this will come with maturity, a good prospect. Shown in excellent condition. Junior 1 st - Dr. W.L. Welch s ELTHOR DARK HECTOR - A good quality youngster with a pleasing head, good breadth of skull and strong jaw with big white teeth. Good forehand, not overdone in any way with firm topline and good tailset. Well marked good coat. Moves well both ways. Reserve CC.

Novice 1 st - Mr. P. Waterman s KEMROROCKS KABUL - Strong and masculine but head could have a little more breadth of skull. Good forehand and bone, well ribbed but could be firmer in topline. Moved well. Open 1 st - Mr. R.T. Alleyne s RICHWOOD ARRELEUS FIRE - Very pleasing in profile as he is well balanced, strong masculine head, good pigment and strong jaw. Very good forehand with good bone. Strong well ribbed body and this maturity of body just gave him the edge in the challenge. Excellent topline and tailset. Very good profile action, perhaps just a tad untidy in front when coming back to me. CC, BOB and Group 1. Rottweilers Bitches Minor Puppy 1 st - Mr. O. Holder s MONIFA SHADES OF PINK - Smart with a good skull and pleasing expression, well laid shoulders, good breadth and depth of chest, well ribbed with very good topline. Movement ok. Puppy 1 st - Mr. R. Bascombe s KENTRIDGE MISS MAYWEATHER - Rather old fashioned plainer head, eye could be darker. Strong nicely arched neck, good forehand, well ribbed with good topline and tailset. Strong powerful hind action. Would benefit from more ring practice. Junior 1 st - Mr. R.T. Alleyne s RICHWOOD BEA S A BURNING - Another who benefit from more ring pratice but she is not unappealing for both type and quality. Good skull, decent forehand with good bone. Well ribbed and firm strong topline. Sound on the move and should do well with maturity. Reserve CC. Limit 1 st - Mr. R. Bascombe s MISS LACY - Attractive typical head and expression. Good forehand, well ribbed but must not carry any more weight. Very good hind action with plenty of drive from the rear. 2 nd - Dr. W.L. Shown in excellent coat and muscular condition. Good head, well pigmented, very good forehand with good bone and firm pasterns. Good body with strong loin and good croup. Very good profile action with adequate reach and her calm steady temperament impressed me. CC, BOB and Group 2. Boxers Dogs Junior 1 st - Miss J. Strong clean neck with well laid shoulders and adequate depth of chest. Square in outline, short backed with a slightly sloping topline. WORTHINGTON WISH ME LUCK C.D. - A smart dog of good type and style. Absolutely typical in outline with a slightly plainer (but correct) head than his younger kennel mate. Deep chest and well ribbed with a good topline. Very good profile action. Reserve CC. Boxers Bitches Junior 1 st - Mrs. L. Carrillo s SUNDIAL S PACHA MAMA - Very good skull, well pigmented forward facing eye and good muzzle. Clean neck and shoulders, deep chest and well ribbed back with a good topline and tailset. WORTHINGTON S PRETTY N PEACH - A soundly made and good moving bitch with a pleasing profile, deep chest, short backed with a good topline and tailset. Reserve CC. 2 nd Mrs. B. Foster s RUGBY MULAN - Dam of the CC winners and what a good brood she has proved to be. Although her rather matronly figure went against here in the breed class she has more than proved her worth. Very typical and with quite flashy makings. Pleasing head, good forehand and well ribbed with a good topline. Sound on the move and a lovely temperament. BROOD BITCH: Mrs. B. Foster s RUGBY MULAN. Judge: Tom Mather
