The good weather in the last week has brought these lambs on well, with many vendors having many more lambs finished sooner than they thought, from handling them a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, prices have taken a tumble nationally, which was so disappointing for the show, along with all the hard work and dedication you farmers put in to breeding and lambing. Perhaps we will see it on the supermarket shelves, it s now probably cheaper than New Zealand lamb! TOP PRICE pen of lambs today went to our Champion Pen at 213p for H Smith & Sons, with their 37.5kg Beltex x lambs. Next top spot went to E Brain & Sons Ltd at 208p and 201p for their 37kg ( 79.96) and 39.5kg ( 79.40) lambs. Lambs weighing up to 39kg sold from 189.5p to 213p and others in this category topped at 200p or 78 and 194p or 75.66 for H Smith & Sons. Mark Greenaway topped at 193p or 76.24 for his pen of 38.5kg Charollais x.
Lambs up to 45.5kg sold from 189.5p to 201p with others from AV Taylor at 195p or 80.93 for 41.5kg Suffolks, Tim Withers at 194.5p or 76.83 for 39.5kg Charollais, John Bourne & Son 194p or 88.27 for 45.5kg Charollais, J Walters 193.0p or 76.24 for 39.5kg Charollais, and Mark Greenaway 79.13 for 41kg Beltex x lambs. Top price per head reached 88.27 for a pen of 45.5kg Charollais from John Bourne & Son, others at 85.31 for RW Kerby with a pen of 45.5kg Texels and his others at 84.55, and a few pence behind was Mrs C Plunkett 84.11. Keep the numbers coming, hopefully the lambs will lift in price a little when the hoggets have finished. Please contact us with your entries, so that we can inform the buyers.
