Doggie News Update: Hayden Law Saved Thanks to the help of all those animal lovers who took action, the California State Assembly Budget Subcommittee proposal to repeal Hayden Law. Hayden Law will continue to give homeless pets a better chance at a new life. congratulate all our customers and supporters who took the time to sign petitions, send emails, or make phone calls to protest Governor step in the right direction, helping our animal friends in need! Keep up the Good Work What do the battle over Hayden Law and the new city ordinances teach us? To adopt, of course! Adoption is always the better choice. Not only is it much cheaper than purchasing from a breeder or pet store, but your money is going back to the animals. When you buy a puppy from a pet store, your money is most likely funding a puppy mill somewhere. risk of purchasing a sick pup) by adopting from a rescue group or shelter. Adopting saves lives and funds the rescue of others. Spread the word and keep up the good work! Local News The cities of San Clemente and Dana Point have passed two new ordinances regarding the animal community. First, both cities have banned the sale of cats and dogs by retail stores. The goal is to encourage residents to adopt instead of purchasing from store owners who usually get dogs and cats that are mass produced in mills. Irvine has already adopted a similar ban and Huntington Beach is in the process of drafting a similar ordinance. The ordinance does not affect shelters or licensed breeders and there are currently no retail pet stores in either city. The second ordinance passed by the cities would require mandatory spay or neuter for cats and dogs picked up by animal control on more than one occasion. Any pet impounded at the shelter two times in a three year period can s owner pays to have it spayed or neutered. There are a few exceptions to this law, including guide animals and those with conditions in which the. The purpose of these ordinances is to help with the overcrowding population of dogs and cats, most of which end up in shelters or worse. Spaying and neutering animals picked up by Animal Control will ensure that t end up homeless and in need.

Paws Helping Families in Imagine you are a fourteen year old dog and your whole life has just been turned upside down. Your one and only companion for the past fourteen years has fallen terribly ill and not only is there nothing you can do to help her, but you no longer have anyone to care for you. Sounds terrible, is what happened to little Renee, a very sweet Bichon Frise. Lori was in desperate need of someone to care for hile she was in and out of the hospital and critical care centers for eight months. Unable to do so herself, Lori turned to Paws Pet Resorts and Rescue for help, a luxury boarding facility, as well as a charitable organization that fosters homeless dogs until they find their forever home. Renee found herself in the caring hands of the Paws San Clemente staff for the majority of this time. Although she still had quite a bit of spunk in her step, the staff knew that a dog Rene comfort of a home. Lori was very thankful for all of the care Paws had given to Renee but worried that placing her in a new home would break her Sandra is one of the founding members of the Pet Project Foundation, a nonprofit organization that raises money to fund the Dana Point and San Clemente animal shelters. Not only does Sandra volunteer a great deal of her time to PPF, she also takes the work home with her, literally! Sandra takes in homeless dogs that are at the end of their life and dogs get to enjoy their last days in the comfort of a loving home. To the appreciation of Paws and Lori, Sandra took in sweet, old Renee as a foster pup. Renee feels right at home among the company of Sandra and her two four-legged children. Now, Rene her health knowing that her precious pup is being well cared for, just waiting for the day they can be reunited. On behave of Paws Pet Resorts, Renee and her family, and the countless other dogs in need that you have helped save, we want to formally thank you, Sandra Ackerman.
