9 Why is antimicrobial resistance (AMR) a concern for the Tripartite? 9 Antimicrobial agents are essential to ensure human health, animal health and welfare, and food security. AMR challenges control of infectious diseases AMR increases care costs AMR compromises health security and damages economies There is a lack of coherent global approaches to prevention and containment The human, animal and plant sectors have a shared responsibility to prevent or minimise the development of antimicrobial resistance by both human and non-human pathogens. 18 CONCLUSION Protecting animals, preserving our future Need to work together in collaboration with WHO and FAO for a coordinated and multi-sectoral approach and other alliances; Need National AMR action plans adopted to the local conditions in Member Countries Sustainable actions supported by investments in the animal health system and within a legal framework to minimize counterfeiting and illegal marketing Strong educational campaign and cooperation among all stakeholders We need your commitments as Veterinarians to put it into practice the principle of Prudent and Responsible Use of Antimicrobials since Veterinarians are part of the solution World Organisation for Animal Health Protecting animals, Preserving our future 18
