FROM THE PEOPLE WHO BROUGHT YOU IVOMEC Merial (formerly MSD AGVET) has been providing innovative animal health products to Australian agriculture for over forty years. In the early sixties the introduction of THIBENDAZOLE revolutionised internal parasite control in Australia. The launch of IVOMEC in the eighties and its subsequent evolution into a wide range of products and formulations has made a major contribution to the Australian animal production industry. IN A CLASS OF ITS OWN As the world s first Multiphase Technology sheep drench, TRITON represents a major advance in worm control. By combining the three major broad spectrum drench families into a single product, it has made possible what was previously thought impossible. With TRITON, Australian sheep producers will be able to maintain productivity, delay resistance and ensure the long-term viability of their enterprises. MORE INFORMATION If you have any questions on TRITON, parasite control programmes or how to maximise productivity with the Merial range of sheep products, please contact your Merial Territory Manager, call our Technical Hotline on , or visit References: 1. 2 ANY DRENCH CAN CLAIM SUPERIOR WORM CONTROL. BUT ONLY TRITON CAN PROVE IT I like to cover all bases TRITON lets me do that. Mark Yates - Yerong Creek (NSW) THE CASE FOR TRITON TRITON is the world s first Multiphase Technology sheep drench. Its unique technology has made possible what was once considered technically impossible. It has enabled the three main broad-spectrum drench families the white (BZ), clear (LEV) and ML drenches to be combined into a single, stable, multi-active formulation. And that has enabled a level of worm control never seen before, as the following evidence will prove. CLAIMS TRITON is indicated for the treatment and control of a broad spectrum of mixed infections of adult and immature stages of gastrointestinal roundworms. Such is its potency, TRITON can deliver highly effective worm control even where high levels of resistance are present. It will kill parasites that are resistant to white, clear or ML drenches and significantly, Cydectin /moxidectin-resistant strains, which have been reported in Australian sheep since the late 1990s. 1,2,3,4,5,9 In addition, TRITON is effective against lungworm, itchmite and nasal bot of sheep. HARD EVIDENCE Pen and field 6 trials in both Australia and New Zealand have confirmed the efficacy of TRITON against susceptible and resistant strains of parasites (see table below). Broad spectrum activity even against resistant strains Parasite Efficacy Resistant % Strains Haemonchus contortus* >99 BZ, LEV, MLs Ostertagia spp* >99 BZ, LEV, MLs Trichostrongylus axei 100 Trichostrongylus spp >99 BZ, LEV, BZ+LEV combination Cooperia spp 100 Nematodirus spp 100 BZ Strongyloides 100 Chabertia spp 100 Oesophagostomum spp 100 Trichuris spp 100 *includes inhibited L4 stages BZ = Benzimidazole LEV = Levamisole MLs = Macrocyclic Lactones, including moxidectin

If you want optimal sheep weight, use TRITON Craig Millard Greenways (SA) When you use TRITON, it shows. Brian Bailey Mt Barker (WA) AN IRRESISTIBLE ARGUMENT Such is the potency of TRITON it can deliver highly effective worm control even where high levels of resistance are present. The reason for this lies in the extremely low probability of worms having developed resistance to all of its ingredients. As a rule, the more genes it takes for worms to develop resistance, the slower it is likely to occur. Thanks to its Multiphase Technology, TRITON delivers an accurate dose of three actives ivermectin, levamisole and albendazole simultaneously to the parasites. So to be resistant to TRITON, a worm would require genes for resistance to three drenches to be present at the one time. The likelihood of this occurring is very low indeed. As registration and field trials have proven, TRITON was highly effective even where resistance to ML (including Cydectin/moxidectin-resistant strains), white or clear drenches was significantly high. Which means, whether you have resistance or not, TRITON is always the best option for slowing the further development of resistance. Information detailing the potential of TRITON to significantly delay the development of resistance is presented on the registered product label. DEAD PROOF Results have been collected from field trials where TRITON has been used to treat worm populations with high levels of resistance. 7 Some results from these trials are presented in the following tables. Despite evidence of resistance present to all 3 chemical groups (ML/BZ/LEV), TRITON was highly effective, being the only group to record an egg count of zero. This property represented an extreme scenario as even resistance to Cydectin (moxidectin) was present. It can clearly be seen that TRITON was the most effective option. Region: New England Season: Late Spring Class of stock: kg Merino Hoggets Results for Barber s Pole Worms: Group % Egg Count Reduction BZ 0% LEV 89.3% Cydectin 89.5% TRITON 100% When all worm species found in this trial were evaluated TRITON was still clearly the most effective option available on the property. Once again, TRITON was the only group to record an egg count of zero. The control group had a faecal egg count (FEC) of 344. In South Western Australia, the TRITON group recorded a count equivalent to the Cydectin group. The control group had a FEC of 323. Region: South Western Australia Season: Spring Class of stock: kg mixed sex Merino Weaners Results for Brown Stomach Worms: Group % Egg Count Reduction BZ 28% LEV 67% Combination 91% Cydectin 95% TRITON 95% Region: Season: Class of stock: Results for Total Egg Count: Group BZ 4% LEV 25% Cydectin 96% TRITON 100% New England Late Spring kg Merino Hoggets % Egg Count Reduction In all these field trials TRITON was highly effective, despite evidence of resistance present to all 3 chemical groups (ML/BZ/LEV). In this scenario it can clearly be seen that the efficacy of TRITON was greater or equivalent to the other options tested, including Cydectin BLACK SCOUR WORMS Whilst ML resistance in sheep for this worm is still rare, white and clear resistance is quite common. Usage of TRITON in the two above trials demonstrated high potency (>99%) from the use of TRITON against Black Scour worms despite high levels of white and clear resistance on the properties concerned.

With TRITON, we not only reduced worms, we also eliminated a drench. James Brooker Harden (NSW) Because TRITON has three broad-spectrum drench families, you re getting really top worm control John Steele Derrinallum (Victoria) LATEST REPORTS CONFIRM FINDINGS In a recent survey TRITON Faecal Egg Count Reduction Test (FECRT) data from 107 properties, covering WA, SA, Victoria and NSW, was collected. 8 A large proportion of the results came from recognised ML resistance regions of Australia i.e. WA and the New England in NSW. TRIALS FIND FOR TRITON By definition, resistance is present if egg count reduction is <95%. Of the properties tested, approximately 25% exhibited ML resistance and 67% exhibited BZ/LEV resistance. Therefore TRITON was tested in the face of significant resistance. TRITON was 100% effective: on the vast majority of properties tested even when significant ML and BZ/LEV resistance was present even in regions where ML resistance is more established Field-test areas even when Cydectin/moxidectin resistance was present. MULTIPHASE TECHNOLOGY THE KILLING METHOD Field-test areas Result % of properties tested TRITON >95% effective 99% of properties tested TRITON 100% effective 81% of properties Thanks to its unique Multiphase Technology TRITON delivers an accurate dose of three actives - ivermectin, levamisole and albendazole - simultaneously to internal parasites. The short-acting active ingredients are absorbed rapidly to kill parasites and then are eliminated quickly. The persistence is important as it ensures each active protects the others. Cydectin (ML-moxidectin) has a long sub-lethal chemical tail period. This increases the likelihood of resistance development and can also increase numbers of ML-resistant worms on farm. This selection for ML-resistant worms can be dramatically enhanced by long acting injectable formulations of Cydectin (moxidectin). TRITON will always be superior for control of parasites resistant to any of its component groups, used individually or in any combination of two. Also, the chance of further resistance developing to any one of the three actives will be reduced. This diagram gives a visual representation of how suspoemulsion works. WHY IVERMECTIN WAS CHOSEN FOR TRITON Suspoemulsion the killing method The Multiphase Technology used in TRITON involves the creation of a suspoemulsion. This innovation overcomes the inherent incompatibilities between the three drench groups. It enables levamisole, which is highly water soluble with a low ph requirement, and ivermectin, which is lipophilic and sensitive to acidic ph, to be combined in a stable formulation. Solubilised ivermectin is partitioned in an oil phase and therefore protected from acid degradation. The oil is then suspended as droplets, using emulsifiers, into a water phase (low ph) which has levamisole in solution and albendazole suspended as small particles. The similarity in persistence between ivermectin, levamisole and albendazole is one of the main reasons why ivermectin was chosen as the ML to be used in TRITON. Moxidectin, in contrast, has a long sub-lethal chemical tail that increases selection for resistance but cannot be protected by the short-acting levamisole and albendazole. Ivermectin also has a strong safety profile, especially when compared to abamectin, is consistently potent across a full range of important sheep parasites and is an active of unsurpassed quality. WHY ON-FARM MIXING ISN T THE SAME The high potency of TRITON is achieved through its Multiphase Technology formulation delivering a full dose of all three actives in the right proportions to each treated sheep. On-farm mixing of the same actives will not achieve the same result. Without the Multiphase Technology formulation, degradation of the ML active will start to occur immediately on being mixed with levamisole. Also, mixing inaccuracies will not provide the right levels of each active in exactly the right proportions needed to guarantee cross-protection. As a result, on-farm mixing can lead to relative under-dosing, thereby increasing the selection for resistance. TRITON can remove the need for rotation between the component drench groups to delay resistance. 10

TREATMENT PLANNING TRITON MULTIPHASE LIQUID WITH SELENIUM AND COBALT FOR SHEEP Using TRITON has enabled me to cut down on other drenches. Andrew Bennett Kangaroo Island (SA) TREATMENT RECOMMENDATIONS Drenches are best used as part of a planned parasite control programme. Routine use of TRITON in a parasite control programme will slow the development of drench resistance against the available broad spectrum drench action groups. TRITON can be used on all classes of stock. Lambs / Hoggets Ewes Rams TRITON is a perfect product to use in any drenching programme during any season at marking and/or weaning, at pre-lambing and as a tactical drench. It is advisable to develop a parasite control programme in consultation with a veterinarian. 1. Do not administer to sheep that are dehydrated or unwell. (Ensure sheep yarded overnight have access to water.) 2. Treatment with selenium products should not be given at intervals of less than 3 weeks. CASE SUMMARY In summation, while any drench may claim superior worm control, the evidence clearly points to TRITON. Whether you have resistance or not, or whatever drench or drenches you are currently using, you can be confident that TRITON can enhance the efficacy and sustainability of your worm control programme. FLEXIBILITY TRITON is totally flexible and should be the corner-stone of every parasite control programme. Whether you drench in autumn, winter, spring or summer the unique qualities of TRITON mean that it will fit in with your sheep management activities, whatever they may be. BROAD SPECTRUM OF EFFICACY TRITON controls the following sheep parasites Gastrointestinal roundworms (both adult and immature): Barber s Pole Worm: Haemonchus contortus* Small Brown Stomach Worm: Teladorsagia (Ostertagia) circumcincta* Stomach Hair Worm: Trichostrongylus axei Black Scour Worm: Trichostrongylus colubriformis, Trichostrongylus vitrinus Small Intestinal Worm: Nematodirus spathiger, Nematodirus fillicollis Small Intestinal Hair Worm: Cooperia curticei, Cooperia oncophora Intestinal Threadworm: Strongyloides papillosus Large-Mouthed Bowel Worm: Chabertia ovina Nodule Worm: Oesophagostomum columbianum Whipworm: Trichuris ovis *Including inhibited L4 stage Nasal bot: Large lungworm: Itchmite: Oestrus Ovis (parasitic larval stages only) Dictyocaulus filaria Psorergates ovis Internal parasites may develop resistance to any anthelmintic however mathematical models show that using effective combinations of different anthelmintic families, as in TRITON, can significantly slow the development of resistance.

My reseller advised me to try TRITON. I ve been sold on it ever since. John Glendining Wagga Wagga (NSW) When you think about the price of not drenching effectively, TRITON offers excellent value. Ian Whiting Branxholme (Victoria) DOSE RATE At the recommended dose volume of 1 ml of TRITON per 4 kg bodyweight, the dose rate of ivermectin is 200 mcg/kg bodyweight, with levamisole (hydrochloride) at 7.5 mg/kg bodyweight and albendazole at 5.0 mg/kg bodyweight. This dose volume provides selenium at 0.1 mg/kg bodyweight (the recommended level of supplementation for sheep) and cobalt at 0.44 mg/kg bodyweight. Always treat to the heaviest sheep in the mob. INDICATIONS TRITON Liquid is indicated for the treatment and control of mixed infections of adult and immature stages of gastrointestinal roundworms including worms sensitive to one or more of the action groups within the product. It is also effective against those worms that have single or dual resistance to the MLs (avermectin/milbemycins, including moxidectin resistant strains), benzimidazole, or levamisole/morantel anthelmintic action groups. TRITON is also effective against lungworm, itchmite and nasal bot of sheep, and provides a source of selenium and cobalt for sheep in selenium or cobalt deficient areas. SAFETY TRITON Liquid with Selenium and Cobalt given orally has been demonstrated to be safe at 3 times the recommended dose level. 5 Doses greater than 3 times those recommended can cause symptoms of levamisole toxicity. Liveweights should be estimated carefully and correct dose administered. Where there is a large variation in size within the group, dose rate should be based on the label directions for each weight range. Drafting into two or more lines may be appropriate to avoid excessive overdosing. PACK SIZES TRITON is available in a 15 litre drum and a 5 litre backpack Please refer to pack label for full product details. WITHHOLDING PERIODS Meat: DO NOT USE less than 14 days before slaughter for human consumption. Milk: DO NOT USE in sheep that are producing milk or milk products for human consumption.
