Intro to 3 days of LVS work experience LUNCH HALF GROUP 2: Induction, surgical prep, suturing, bandaging dog paw HALF GROUP 1: Behaviour problems vets see BREAK HALF GROUP 2: Client consultation - Practical skills in prepping for sterile surgery and suturing technique - Applying a paw bandage - Practical skills suturing technique importance of animal behaviour issues to animal owners - Role of vets in dealing with problem behaviours consultation process and effective communication with clients - Physical examination of a dog HALF GROUP 2: Tour of Small Animal Hospital - Understand the difference between a first opinion practice and a referral hospital - Understand how clients and animals experience the hospital how they move through the system and how their needs are met by the hospital staff

5 Tuesday 24 th July Thursday 26 th July 2018: SEEING PRACTICE DAYS Friday 27 th July 2018: BRISTOL SPLIT GROUP 1: Small Animal Practice Small Animal Hospital, Langford Learning objectives: role of the vet in different types of practice - The role of the vet in interactions with animals, clients and support staff importance of communication skills in veterinary practice - Observing the types of clinical cases seen in different types of veterinary practice SPLIT GROUP 2: Equine hospital, Langford Learning objectives: role of the vet in different types of practice - The role of the vet in interactions with animals, clients and support staff importance of communication skills in veterinary practice - Observing the types of clinical cases seen in different types of veterinary practice SPLIT GROUP 3: Farm Practice, Shepton Vets Learning objectives: - Be able to safely move around adult dairy cattle - Understand Veterinary involvement in block calving dairy herds. - Be able to correctly identify posterior or anterior presentations during parturition. - Be able to correctly apply calving ropes for an assisted delivery - Be able to put on a halter on a calf - Be able to evaluate the calves environment - Be able to take a calves temperature and listen to it heart.
