Stylodactylus Sibogae n. sp. Stylodactylus A. M.-Edw. Stat '.5 N., 'E. Sulu Sea. 522 m. Stony bottom. 1 female. Distinguished from all e oer species of e genus by e lower margin of e rostrum being smoo and glabrous. Rostrum horizontally projecting to about e middle of 2 joint of antennular peduncle, armed above wi 16 subequal tee, of which e first six stand on e carapace; ese proximal tee are separated by very short distances, but e rest are contiguous; anterior too at one-fif e leng of e rostrum from e acuminate tip. Carapace wi small supraorbital, antennal and branchiostegal spine. Abdomen 6-times as long as e rostrum, 4-times as long as e carapace and a little more an twice as long as carapace and rostrum taken togeer. The abdomen resembles at of Stylod. amarynis de Man, but e pleura are smoo, quite unarmed, devoid of spines. Eyestalks cylindrical, almost half as long as carapace, cornea semiglobular, measuring two-irds e leng of e rest of e stalk, distinctly faceted, of a pale grayish colour, blackish near e posterior margin. Antennular peduncle little shorter an carapace, very slender, 10 to 11- times as long as ick, basal joint more an twice as long as e two following combined, 2 one and a half as long as 3. Antennal scale rd reaching by one-four its leng beyond e antennular peduncle, narrow, e greatest wid, proximally, being one-six e leng; outer margin concave, terminal spine reaching beyond e truncate tip of e lamellar portion. Second and ird maxillipeds, like also e peraeopods of e 1 and st 2 pair, resembling ose of Stylod. amarynis, but not armed wi small spines. The ree posterior legs are of a more slender shape an ose of Stylod. amarynis, so e.g. are e merus of 3 pair 11-times, rd e carpus 4-times and e propodus 11-times as long as broad; dactylus 12 (3-IX-1918)

Closely related to Nikoides Danae Paulson from e Red Sea, but probably different, when e figures of e rostrum and of e left simple peraeopod of e 1 pair in Nobili's paper (Anna!, des Sc. Nat. 9«S rie, st Zool. T. IV, 1906, p. 79, PI. 5, fig. 1 and If) are indeed accurate. Rostrum slender, as long as or but little shorter an e eyes, measuring one-ird e leng of e rest of e carapace; e rostrum is laterally compressed, e lower border appears in a lateral view slightly convex proximally, slightly concave in its anterior half and e height proximally is not yet one-six e leng; e rostrum ends in two very small tee, at are comparatively much smaller an in Nik. Danae, according to Paulson's and Nobili's figures. The carapace, rostrum included, appears nearly twice as long as high and nearly half as long as e abdomen. Abdomen, wiout e telson, 4-times as long as e 3 somite is high, resembling at of Processa canaliculata Leach, except rd e telson, at tapers more considerably, e wid of e tip being only one-ird e wid proximally. Second joint of antennular peduncle 3-times as long as ick and one and a half as long as 3, d ; stylocerite very short, truncate. The two last joints of e external maxillipeds are of subequal leng and measure togeer two-irds of e antepenultimate; e ultimate and four-fifs of e penultimate joint project beyond e antennal scale. [In Nobili's figure of is leg e merus appears only 5-times as long as broad and but little longer an e propodus, e carpus 2 /3-times as long as ick, distally and more an half as long as e merus. This leg was not figured by Paulson]. For e rest probably like Nikoides Danae Paulson. Largest specimen 25,2 mm. long, probably not yet full-grown. Family CRANGONIDAE. Pontophilus Leach. Bottom coarse grey mud, superficial layer more liquid and brown. 1 young female. Stat '.6S., '.1E. Sou of Rotti island. 918 m. Bottom fine grey mud. 1 male. Stat '.4S., '.5E. Bali Sea. 538 m. Bottom fine, dark brown sandy mud. 2 young and 4 adult, ova-bearing females. Closely related to Pont, occidentalis Fax. from e West coast and to Pont, gracilis Smi from e East coast of America. The typical Pont, occidentalis differs by its much larger size, by e abdomen being 27 2-ti as long as e carapace, rostrum included, in e variety m e s indica 3-times, and by e anterior of e two gastric spines, on e mid-dorsal line of e carapace, being as large as e posterior, whereas in e variety indica e anterior spine is considerably smaller, hardly perceptible by means of an ordinary magnifying glass. Rostrum more or less obliquely turned upward, as long as e eyes or a little shorter, armed wi 2, rarely 3, pairs of marginal spines (in Pont, gracilis Smi only one pair): e shape of e rostrum is somewhat variable, e

Propodus of anterior legs 4-times as long as wide in e middle. Peraeopods of 2 pair reaching to e middle of e merus of 1 pair: st chela 2,5 2,7-times as long as e carpus, which is distinctly shorter an e palm; fingers as long as palm, gaping, chela 6-times as long as broad at e articulation of e fingers. Eyes as large as ose of Pont, gracilis, e leng of e carapace, including e rostrum, being 5,1 5,8-times as long as e greatest diameter of e eye. For e rest is form seems to agree wi Pont, gracilis Smi, of which it should perhaps wi more right be considered as a variety. Leng of e male 35,5 mm., of e adult, egg-laden female 48 mm 1, Pontophilus modestus n. sp. Stat '.2S., 'E. West of Kei-islands. 304 m. Bottom grey clay, hard and crumbly. 2 specimens. The specimens are of unequal size and do not fully agree wi one anoer, so at e larger is described as e type. This specimen is 21,35 mm. long, carapace 5,2 mm., abdomen 16,15 mm. Carapace and abdomen smoo, e carapace 1,6-times as long as broad, rostrum included. Kostrum l jb e leng of e rest of e carapace, reaching to e middle of e eyes; it is narrow, 3,75-times as long as wide in e middle, anterior margin straight, truncate, measuring one-ird e leng; e rostrum is hollowed dorsally. Orbital spine small, antennal spine reaching beyond e eyes, slightly divergent, buttressed by a long, sharp carina. One spine in e mid-dorsal line of e carapace at one-six its leng from e base of e rostrum; posterior to it e carapace is rounded. At eier side of e middle e carapace is armed wi ree acute spines. First or uppermost a little smaller an e dorsal spine, situated just behind e level of it, posterior to e orbital spine and buttressed by a short obtuse carina. Second spine as large as e spine in e middle line, situated in a level wi e antennal spine, half as far distant from e l t as e 1st from e dorsal s spine, which is placed a little behind e level of e 2. Third spine nd as large as e second or hepatic spine, situated midway between e latter and e antennal spine. Abdomen 3-times as long as e carapace, rostrum included, perfectly smoo. Six somite one and a half as long as 5, 4,3-times as long

Telson a little longer an 6 somite, wi 2 pairs of dorso-lateral spinules, and wi 3 spines at eier side of e acute apex. Eyes large, dark purplish, greatest diameter! /0 e leng of carapace. Lateral process of antennular peduncle lamelliform, rounded, a little shorter an basal joint. Joints of upper flagellum all longer an broad. Antennal scale one-ird e leng of carapace, twice as long as broad, outer margin straight, unarmed, terminal spine not or hardly exceeding e moderately broad, distal border of e lamella, antero-internal angle obtuse. First pair of peraeopods slender; propodus of subchela half as long as e carapace, rostrum included, slender, 4,8-times as long as wide in e middle. Carpus of 2 legs a little shorter an chela, palm slightly broader an long, fingers 3-times as long as palm. Carpus of 4 pair 2,5-times as long as broad, propodus 1,7-times as long as carpus, dactylus half as long as propodus, slender, nearly straight. Exopodite of 2 pleopod 4,7-times as long as broad, endopodite little more an half as long and 5-times as long as broad, no stylamblys. The oer specimen is shorter, 14 mm. long, carapace 3,8 mm., abdomen 10,2 mm. In proportion to e carapace e abdomen, e 6i h somite and e telson are a little shorter, e 6^ somite a little icker; it differs, however, more really by e 1 or uppermost lateral spine of st e carapace wanting completely, by e stouter shape of e anterior peraeopods (propodus not yet half as long as carapace and 3*/3-times as long as wide in e middle), by e anterior margin of e rostrum being slightly concave and by e gastric spine being produced backward in an obtuse (jarina, at reaches to just behind e middle of e carapace, ough not prominent at all. Pontophilus angustirostris n. sp. Stat /.5S., 'E. Reef of Batjulmati (Java). 1 ova-bearing female. Stat. 50. Bay of Badjo, West coast of Flores. Up to 40 m. Bottom mud, sand and shells, according to locality. 1 male. Stat ,.5S., '.5E. Between Misool and New Guinea. 32 m. Bottom sand, small stones and shells. 2 females wiout eggs. Stat Anchorage of Pulu Jedan, East coast of Aru-islands. 13 m. Bottom sand and shells. 1 female wiout eggs. Closely related to Pont sculptus (Bell) and Pont, incisus Kemp. Carapace depressed, as broad as long, e rostrum excluded; a shallow groove extends transversely across e base of e rostrum. At one-fif e leng of e carapace from e level of e orbital margin one observes in e mid-dorsal line a small sharp spine, directed horizontally forward and produced into e sharp, mid-dorsal carina, at runs to e posterior margin but at is interrupted or quite obscure a little before e middle of e carapace. Lateral, sides of carapace wi 5 sharp carinae situated on e middle longitudinal ird; of ese 5 carinae ree end anteriorly in a sharp spine. The I * at ends in a s spine, placed just behind e level of e gastric spine, reaches to e middle of carapace; e 2, wiout a spine, runs behind e 1, curves nd st slightly inward and separates e cardiac from e branchial region; e 3, at terminates in e hepatic spine, is situated just above e level rd of e antennal spine and reaches as far backward as e l ; e 4, 8 t wiout a spine, runs, midway between e 5 and e posterior half of e 2, to near e posterior margin and is separated from e 3 od rd by a broad interspace. The 5 or undermost ends in a spine, is placed at e level of e antennal spine and e longest of all, extending from just before e middle of e carapace to near e posterior margin. Abdomen as in Pont, incisus Kemp, telson wi 3 spines at eier side of e acute tip, outer spine very short, e two oer ones very long, 3- to 4-times as long as e triangular tip and of equal leng. Antennal scale half as long as carapace, 2,9-times as long as broad, e outer edge armed just behind e middle, at four-nins its leng from e base, wi a strong acute spine. Antennulae and antennae for e rest about as in Pont, incisus. Propodus of 1 pair of peraeopods 3,2-times as long as wide in e st middle. Carpus of 2 pair two-irds of e merus and a little longer an e chela; palm very short, just as broad as long, measuring one-four e leng of e chela, fingers straight. Oer legs like in Pont, incisus Kemp. The four posterior pleopods bear each an appendix interna bo in e male and in e female, in e male it is styliform wi cincinnuli at e apex, in e female broader, wiout cincinnuli at e rounded tip; 2 pleopod of e male presenting moreover on e middle of e inner margin of e endopodite a truncated prominence, e appendix masculina. Bo in e male and in e female e endopodite is developed in e four posterior pleopods, but it gradually diminishes in size from e 2 to e 5^. nd

Stat. 65a. Very near Station 65 (7 0'S., E.). Between e islands of Saleyer and Tanah Djampeah m. Bottom pale, grey mud, changing during haul into coral bottom. 1 male and 2 females wiout eggs. Closely related to Pont, angustirostris n. sp. Rostrum, reaching in e female (in e male it is broken off) beyond e eyes to e far end of basal antennular article, very narrow, e bread in e middle being one-fif e leng in e mid-dorsal line; e rostrum terminates in two slightly upturned lobes, at are truncate, and its margins are, like e orbital margin at is entire, fringed wi long setae, concealing e eyes. There is in e mid-dorsal line a sharp prominent carina, running from e posterior margin to e anterior fif and terminating, in e female, in a well developed spine; in e male e anterior extremity is blunt. On each side of it several carinae are observed, at are all prominent and sharp. A long sub-dorsal carina runs from nearly midway between e rostrum and e orbital spine backward and slightly outward to near e posterior margin ol e carapace; between is carina and at of e mid-dorsal line, on e gastric region, two small prominences occur, situated behind dne anoer, and on e cardiac region in e male four carinae are observed, arranged in two pairs, e carinae of each pair unarmed and situated behind one anoer; in e female ere are here only ree carinae, e two of e inner pair being substituted by a single one. Below e subdorsal carina, at ends in e female in a spine, but in e male bluntly, still ree carinae occur. The anterior, situated distinctly farer distant from e subdorsal carina an from e posterior extremity of e antennal crest, runs backward to e cervical groove and ends in bo sexes in a spine; e second, twice as long, is placed immediately behind e anterior, ough just below it, runs to near e posterior margin of e carapace and terminates also in a spine, at is, however, smaller an at of e anterior; e ird is unarmed and runs parallel wi e second. Abdomen resembling at of Pont, angustirostris, differing only in minute details. Antennal scale presenting e same form in e male and in e

8 166 ZOOLOGISCHE MEDEDEELTNGEN DEEL IV. female; in e male it measures /s e leng of e carapace wiout 3 e rostrum and is 3,6-times as long as broad, e inner margin slopes sharply away from e base of e distal too, at is slender and long, while e strongly concave outer margin is armed wi a well developed spine at e proximal ird. First pair of peraeopods of a raer stout shape. Merus wi a small spine at e far end of e upper border, distal margin of outer surface for e rest unarmed. Propodus of subchela in e male a little more an half e leng of e carapace, wiout e rostrum, and 2,5-times as long as wide. Second pleopod of e male wi a well developed stylamblys bearing a cluster of cincinnuli at e tip and wi an appendix ma^culina, at reaches to e distal four of e endopodite and at is 2,5-times as ick as e stylamblys.
