1 I Tmav. Mus. Hist. nat. ~Grigore Antipan I Vol. XXXV I pp BUNAKENZA ZNDONESZmA, NEW GENUS AND SPECIES OF APSEUDOMORPHA (CRUSTACEA, TANAIDACEA), FROM THE SOUTH OF SULAWESI SEA MODEST GUTU On dkcrit Bunakenia indonesiana n.g., n.sp. dans les eaux indonksiennes de la Mer Sulawesi. As a result of the Romanian Expedition made by "Grigore Antipa" Museum of Natural History of Bucharest in the Indonesian Archipelago (1991), the species Paprapseudes pangtiruthuli Gutu (1992) was described from among tanaidacea and the present paper adds to the inventory of apseudomorphs from the Indonesian marine waters another new species and, in the same time, a new genus. FAMILY APSEUDIDAE Leach, Subfamily Apseudinae Leach, Bunakenia n.g. Type species: Bunakenia indonesiana n.sp. Diagnosis: The body dorso-ventrally flattened, without spiniform apophysis on the carapace, pereon or pleon. Carapace with ocular lobes. Antenna with five-articulated peduncles; squama present, well developed. Mandibles with three-articulated palps. Maxillule with two-articulated palpus. Caudo-distal inner seta of endite of maxilliped normal, plumose. Epignath big, cup-shaped. Chelipeds and pereopod I1 with exopodites. Coxa of pereopods I1 with spinifonn apophysis; basis relatively short, very broad, like an oval disk, with antero-sternal side provided with numerous plumose setae. Pleopods birarnous, in five pairs. Uropods filiform. biramous. Oostegites in five pairs. Sexual dimorphism: very accentuated on the chelipeds and less accentuated on the pereopods I1 (only on the basis and meros).
2 8 MODEST GUTU Gender: feminine. Etymology: derived from Bunaken, name of the island (Sulawesi Sea), where the type-species was found. Remarks: The new genus Bunakenia differs from all other genera of subfamily ~~seudinae'b~ the oval-diskoidal shape and the series of plumose setae of the antero-sternal edge of the basis of pereopods I1 and moreover by the aspect of the male chelipeds, the finger of the propus and dactylus having the shape of two scythes placed symmetrically face to face. Another characteristic of the genus is the lack of spiniform apophyses at carapace level or of the pereon and pleon, thus evoking some genera of the family Parapseudidae Guw, 1981 (Section I1 of the family Apseudidae in Sieg's acceptation, 1983, p. 133). The only genera in which a series of long plumose setae on the anterosternal edge of the basis of pereopods I1 are Calozodion Gardiner, 1973, and Pagurapseudes Whitelegge, 1901, genera very much differing from Bunkenia n.g., by numerous other characters. The fossorial-types pereopods I1 (with massive spines but without long setae on the merus, the carpus. and the propus) and the presence of the coxal spiniform apophysis and lack of the transversal row of hairs on the first pleonite (a character which is met in only some genera of the family Parapseudidae) determined me to included the new genus in the family Apseudidae, the subfamily Apseudinae. No other species so far described in the literature fits with the new genus. Bunakenia indonesiana n.sp. (Figs 1-5) Material: 24 specimens (6 males, 7 females and 11 juveniles). Bunaken Island (the Sulawesi Sea, at about km to the west of Manado town from the north of Sulawesi Island); Station 5, dredging by apnea submerging, on a bottom with coarse sand and rests of dead corals; 4-5 m deep; 1 8Ih April 1991 ; Leg. Modest Guyu. Description ofthe female with oostegites, paratype: Body (Fig. 1 A) dorso-ventrally flattened, very calcified; 3.25 rnrn length, and about 5.5 times longer than maximum wide. Carapace without spiniform apophysis. Rostrum big, triangular. Ocular lobes present, with visual elements. Pereon with six free pereonites, trapezoid-shaped, without spiniform processus, narrower in last pereonite. Pleon with five short and wide pleonites and pleotelson.

TANAIDACEA) 11 Antennula (Fig. 1 B) has first article of basal peduncle about 2.2 time longer than wide; many setae are present on distal end on inner side. Length of the second article equal with width of the first article. The third article shorter than the second. Inner flagellum three-jointed and the outer one nine-jointed (without taking into consideration their common article). Antenna (Fig. 1 C) has five-jointed peduncles; first article very wide; second longer than others with well developed squama; third very short; fourth about two times longer than third; fifth equal with fourth. Flagellum has six articles. Mandibles (Fig. 1 D and E) with three-segmented palpus; the first and third articles have many long setae and second only three short setae (one cornnlon-shaped and two particularly, three-comered end). Pars molaris strong. Pars incisiva very chitinized, four-denticulated, in both mandibles. Setiferous lobes provided with four or five setae. Lacinia mobilis, on the left mandible, three-denticulated (Fig. 1 E). Labium (Fig. 1 F) has tiny hairs on the outer side of basal part. The lobes are ovate, with long hairs on outer surface and three strong spines on the apical side. MaxilIule (Fig. 2 A) provided with two-jointed palpus; the last article of palpus with three long setae. Inner endite with five ciliated setae. Outer endite armed with eleven apical spines and provided with two subterminal setae; numerous hairs on the external side. Maxilla without important particular characters. Maxilliped (Fig. 2 B and C); the coxa short; basis strong. Palpus foursegmented, provided with long and short setae on all articles, shaped as shown in drawing (Fig. 2 B). The endite with two or three couplers; the median free margin has seven plumose setae; apical side armed with numerous setae shown in fig. 2 C; inner caudo-distal seta normal. Epignath cup-shaped, provided with a strong spine. Cheliped (Fig. 3 A), provided with a small oostegites on the coxa. Basis strong, shorter than carpus, widening in the middle part and with a big spine and two long plumose setae on the postero-tergal side; expodit present, well developed, three jointed and provided with four long plumose setae on the last article. Menis long (about equal as propus) and with few long setae on distal part of sternal side. Carpus slender and longer than basis, with numerous setae on ventral surface. Propus about 2.8 times longer than broad; claw short. Dactylus narrow and some what longer than finger of propus; claw short. Pereopod II (Fig. 3 B) bigger than the cheliped or the succeeding pereopods. Coxa provided with well developed spiniform apophysis with one long plumose seta.
