SECTION 1 What is the Great Barrier Reef? Find three facts around the aquarium about the Great Barrier Reef and write them in the space provided below: Fun Fact 1 The Great Barrier Reef is... Fun Fact 2 The Great Barrier Reef is located... Fun Fact 3 The Great Barrier Reef has... SECTION 1 Identify two current threats impacting on the Great Barrier Reef ecosystem. Complete the table below: List the impact How is this affecting the reef? SECTION 2 Locate me! Using the latitude and longitude coordinates find and colour on the map where the Great Barrier Reef is located. The latitude coordinate is 18 9' '' S The longitude coordinate is ' '' E. (Round up and locate on the world map below.)

SECTION 3 Echinoderms Echinoderms are animals that belong to the same family group which means spiny skin. These animals are generally found in your coastal rock pools. Label correctly the 4 echinoderms that you will see in the SEA LIFE rock pool area. Followed by writing a description of what you saw, felt and learnt in this area.

Draw and label a picture of the habitat you can see the echinoderms living in at SEA LIFE Sydney below. SECTION 4 Jellies Jellies are a very simple animal. They are related to coral and anemones, plus they are a part of the group of animals known as Cnidaria. There are many different types of species of jellies that can be found living in our oceans. Select from the pictures below the species of jellies that you can see at the aquarium. Once you have identified the jellies record their scientific name and where they can be found. Sea Nettle Moon The Australian Spotted Box Flower Hat Cannonball Blue Lion s Mane Species: Scientific Name: Common name: Habitat: Size/Appearance: Food: Species: Scientific Name: Common name: Habitat: Size/Appearance: Food: Species: Scientific Name: Common name: Habitat: Size/Appearance: Food:

SECTION 5 Predators on the reef Read the following questions about sharks and write your answers in the space provided below. 1. From your visit to SEA LIFE Sydney why are sharks an important part of the coral reef ecosystem? 2. Why do humans want to kill and cull the number of sharks? Do you think this is the right thing to do? 3. List 3 ways we can change people s perception about sharks and educate them on why we should be protecting this species. SECTION 6 Turtles Turtles are marine reptiles which means that they lay eggs! Find out and record the different stages of the Turtle Life Cycle. Stage 1: Stage 4: Stage 2: Stage 3:

1. How is global warming impacting on turtle reproduction? SECTION 7 Coral Read and answer the following questions in the space provided below: 1. Define the term symbiotic relationship 2. Explain the relationship between coral and algae. Why cant they live without each other? 3. What happens to coral when algae cant grow? 4. What can we do to help support and protect this relationship? Corals are living animals related to sea jellies. They build their own skeletal structures out of calcium, like our bones. This structure helps to keep the coral safe from predators. There are many different coral structures and types that can be found on the Great Barrier Reef. Identify two different types of coral you can see in the tank, draw and label the coral structures in the space provided below. Type of Coral: Type of Coral:
