1 FOLIA HEYROVSKYANA Vol. 8(3-4): ISSN editum: December 31, 2000 Taxonomical notes on Anthaxia olympica species-group (Coleoptera: Buprestidae) Pavel Svoboda Svákov 710 / III, CZ Soběslav, Czech Republic Abstract. Anthaxia {Haplanthaxia) denesi sp. n. from Turkey, and Anthaxia (Haplanthaxia) kantneri sp. n. from Tunisia, are described, illustrated and compared with related species. New statuses arc proposed for Anthaxia {Haplanthaxia) oreas Peyerimhoff, 1919 and Anthaxia {Haplanthaxia) astoreth Obenberger, New synonym is proposed for Anthaxia {Haplanthaxia) praeclara praeclara Mannerheim, 1837 = Anthaxia {Haplanthaxia) praeclara var. chlorogastra Obenberger, 1938 syn. n. Key to complexes and species of Anthaxia {Haplanthaxia) olympica Kiesenwcttcr, 1880 species-group is given. Taxonomy, new species, new statuses, synonymy, key, Buprestidae, Anthaxia, Palaearctic region Introduction The Anthaxia olympica species-group was established by Obenberger (1917) and divided by Novak (1988) into two complexes; this species-group was partly keyed by Novak (1988: A. scutellaris complex,) and by Niehuis (1991: East-Mediterranean species). Since this time several new taxa were described: A. samai Curletti et Magnani, 1992, A. praeclara creticola Brandl et Muhle, 1998 and A. francescoi Sparacio et Svoboda, 1999; this fact, the discovery of further new species and necessity of change of some statuses induce me to key complete species-group inclusive of dividing it into three complexes. The following abbreviations are used in the text: MNHN collection of Museum national d'histoire naturelle, Paris, France; NMPC collection of National Museum, Prague, Czech Republic. 6 142 Taxonomical notes on Anthaxia ulympica specics-group i Coleoptera: Buprestidae) Name d e r i v at i o n. This species is named after the collector Dipl. Ing. František Kantner. Differential diagnosis. Anthaxia kantneri sp. n. resembles by its pronolal sculpture Anthaxia parallela Gory el Laporte, 1839 and Anthaxia oreas Peyerimhoff, 1919 stat. n., and it differs from both these species by its coloration, length of antennae, form of male metatibiae and aedeagus, and by other characters given in the key. Anthaxia (Haplanthaxia) oreas Peyerimhoff, 1919 stat. n. Anthaxia (Haplanthaxia) parallela oreas Peyerimhoff', 1919: 195. After having studied an extensive material of A. parallela oreas including one paratype (MNHN, the other type specimens were not found) and A. parallela parallela Gory et Laporte, 1839, I consider A. oreas Peyerimhoff, 1919 to be a good species. It differs from A. parallela by quite different male genitalia (Figs 19, 20) and male metatibiae (Figs 57, 58). Anthaxia (Haplanthaxia) astoreth Obenberger, 1934 stat. n. Anthaxia (Haplanthaxia) olympica astoreth Obenberger, 1934: 175. After having studied a rich material of both subspecies including three Obenberger's syntypes (1 male, 2 females in NMPC) I consider A. astoreth Obenberger, 1934 to be a good species. It differs from A. olympica Kiesenwetter, 1880 by its more lustrous dorsal side of body, elytral sculpture with rows of punctures, form of aedeagus (Figs 11, 12) and especially form of male metatrochanlers (Figs 31, 32), which character I consider as very important for distinguishing the Anthaxiaspecies. 1. e c t o t y p e d e s i g n a t i o n. I utilize the occasion of studying all the 3 syntypes to select a lectotypc, a holotype not been indicated. I hereby designate as lectotype the only male and the remaining two females as paralectotypcs. All type material is deposited in NMPC. Anthaxia (Haplanthaxia) praeclara praeclara Mannerheim, 1837 Anthaxia praeclara Mannerheim, 1837: 87. Anthaxia praeclara var. chlorogastra Obenberger, 1938: 186, syn. n. After having studied a male syntype (number of type species not mentioned in the original description) of A praeclara var. chlorogastra (NMPC) I have found no differences between the variety and nominotypical subspecies A. praeclara praeclara and I consider A. praeclara var. chlorogastra Obenberger to be a junior synonym of A. praeclara praeclara Mannerheim, 1837.

Frons and ventral side of body with short, elytra with very short white pubescence. Sexual dichromatism only slightly developed: females differ usually by black frons and darker ventral side. Frons slightly convex or almost flat, moderately depressed medially, vertex narrow, about times as wide as width of eye; male antennae long, about times longer than length of pronotum, exceptionally shorter; antennomeres 5-10 trapezoidal. Pronotum slightly, less frequently distinctly vaulted, about times as wide as long, with shallow or almost indistinct laterobasal depressions and without distinct medial groove; lateral pronotal margins regularly rounded or moderately angulated, the widest part of pronotum at anterior half. Elytra slender, more (males) or less (females) sinuately narrowed, rarely subparallel, about twice as long as wide at humeri, exceptionally distinctly shorter; elytral epiplcura narrow, not reaching elytral apex, lateral margins of elytra finely serrate in apical third. Sculpture of head and pronotum consisting of a network of oval and polygonal cells with or without central grains, more rarely central part of pronotum with traces of transverse wrinkles; elytral sculpture usually grainy, rarely with rows of punctures; dorsal side of body with or without basal microsculpture; sculpture of ventral side ocellatc, less distinct on abdominal sternites than that on sternum. Legs short and slender, tibiae almost straight, exceptionally male pro- and metatibiae strongly bent inwards; male mesotibiae and less often protibiae with inner serration, metatibiae with deep or shallow inner prcapical incurvation and usually distinctly serrate in apical third. Pro- and metatrochanter with or without spine, mesotrochanter simple, less frequently transversely enlarged and prolonged to sharp lateral spine. Anal sternite widely truncate and slightly incurved apically, exceptionally regularly rounded with small apical incurvation, with fine lateral serration and with more or less developed preapical depression. Sexual dimorphism. Female differs from male by shorter antennae and by simple trochanters and tibiae.
