5 PROCESS FOR ENTERING The Vizsla Club of the Carolinas is self-superintending these shows. We are not able to accept an online unsigned entry. The American Kennel Club requires all entries to be signed by owners or their agent. ENTER EARLY ~ ENTRIES ARE LIMITED TO 100 ENTRIES PER SPECIALTY 1. Please visit the club website click on the 2018 Specialty Show tab. 2. The entry form is a fillable form. Once completed, please print both sides of the form, and remit with proper payment to the address on the entry form. 3. One entry form lists all four specialties, and the 4-6 month beginner puppy class. Please check the boxes that are applicable for your entries. 4. 6 CLASSIFICATION FOR THE VIZSLA CLUB OF THE CAROLINAS SPECIALTY SHOWS BEGINNER PUPPIES (4-6 MONTHS OF AGE) AKC Sanctioned Beginner Puppy Competition Event Nos [FOLLOWING SATURDAY AM SPECIALTY SHOW] The Four-to-Six Month Puppy competition shall be for dogs that are four months of age and over but under six months on the day of the event. Class open to only Vizsla puppies. The winner of this class will be considered the Best Four-to-Six Month Puppy in show. Entry and Eligibility requirements include: The Four-to-Six Month Puppy Competition must be listed in the premium list entry form and judging schedule. AKC registration number or an AKC litter number will be required for all entries of an AKC recognized breed as listed in Chapter 3, Section 1 of the Rules Applying to Dog Shows. A foreign born dog may enter this class if they are registered in the country of origin. All entrants are to be vaccinated (including rabies) in accordance with their veterinarian s protocol. Dogs that are owned or co-owned by a professional handler may compete in this class, but must be handled by a non-professional handler. Professional handlers are defined as any person who belongs or has belonged to a professional handlers organization, distributed rate cards, or otherwise advertised or represented themselves as handling dogs for pay within the last five years. Dogs may not be exhibited by current assistants and household members of a professional handler. Entry Fee: $15.00 including AKC recording fee of $2.00 for each dog. These fees are paid to the American Kennel Club. Entries will close Wednesday 6:00 PM EDST, September 5, 2018 at the address shown on entry form. The Amateur-Owner -Handler Class shall be for dogs and bitches that are at least sic months of age that are not champions. Dogs must be handled in the class by the registered owner of the dog. This class is restricted to exhibitors who have not, at any point in time, been a professional dog handler. Additionally, members of the immediate family or household of a current professional handler are ineligible for this class (as defined by Chapter 11, Section 13 of the Rules). The Bred-By-Exhibitor Class shall be for dogs and bitches that are: Six months of age or older as of the first day of the show; Not Champions on the date of closing of entries for the show; Individually registered with The American Kennel Club as of the date of the show; Owned or co-owned by any of the breeders of record as of the date of the show; 6

7 The person handling the dog in this class must be a breeder of record and an owner of record of this dog. In any subsequent classes for which a dog from the Bred-By Exhibitor Class becomes eligible, there are no restrictions as to who may handle. The following categories of dogs may be entered and shown in Best of Breed competition: dogs that are Champions of Record and dogs that according to their owners records have completed the requirements for a championship but whose championships are unconfirmed. Entering and showing dogs whose championships are unconfirmed is limited to 90 days from the date of the show where a dog completed the requirements for a championship according to the owner s records. If at the end of the 90-day period the championship of a dog has not been confirmed by the American Kennel Club, no further entries of the dog for Best of Breed competition are to be made until its championship has been confirmed by the AKC. AWARDS OF MERIT A maximum of Four (4) Judge s Awards of Merit Rosettes shall be available for presentation by the Breed Specialty Judge to Vizslas he/she holds in high regard. Vizslas available for these awards shall be selected from the Best of Breed entry, plus Winners Dog and Winners Bitch, along with the Winners of the Veterans, Field Trial, and Hunting Classes. The Award of Merit winners will be selected after the Best of Breed, Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed, Select Dog, Select Bitch and Best of Winners awards are made. All dogs remaining in competition, including Winners Dog or Winners Bitch, are eligible for an Award of Merit. The American-bred Class shall be for all dogs (except champions) six months of age and over, whelped in the United States of America, by reason of mating which took place in the United State of America. NON-REGULAR CLASSES INVOLVING SINGLE DOG ENTRIES (all specialties) Veteran Dog and Veteran Bitch Open to dogs and bitches 7 years old and over. Classes are divided by age: 7 years and under 10 years, 10 years and under 12 years, 12 years and older. Neutered dogs and spayed bitches are allowed to compete in Veteran Classes at independent specialty shows. Only winners of these classes are eligible to compete in Best of Breed competition. Field Trial Dog and Field Trial Bitch Class for dogs and class for bitches who have a placement or a Judge s Award of Merit for an AKC licensed field trial. The winners of these classes are eligible to compete in Best of Breed competition. Exhibitor please have proof of the FT placement or JAOM with you on the day of the show. Hunting Dog and Hunting Bitch Class for dogs and class for bitches who have an AKC hunting title of JH, SH or MH. The winners of these classes are eligible to compete in Best of Breed. NON-REGULAR CLASSES INVOLVING MULTIPLE DOG ENTRIES Stud Dog and Brood Bitch (Saturday AM Show & Sunday AM Show ONLY) Stud Dog Class ~ For dogs and two of their Get that are entered in a Regular Class, Best of Breed Competition, or some other Non-Regular Class. The stud dog must appear in the ring with his get and be entered in the Stud Dog Class. The owner of the stud dog need not be the owner of the get. The awards will be based on the merits of the get. Brood Bitch Class ~ The same as Stud Dog except substitute Brood Bitch for Stud Dog & Produce for Get. Since the judge s decision in these classes will be based on the merit of more than one dog or bitch, no one of the dogs or bitches making up the entry judged first in the class will be eligible to compete for Best of Breed by virtue of having won this class. While the merits of the stud dog or brood bitch are not to be considered in the placement of the entry, the stud dog or brood bitch must be examined to determine if it has a condition that would require disqualification or excusal under the Dog Show Rules, AKC policy or the standard for the breed. 7

8 SWEEPSTAKES: Both Friday AM and Friday PM shows Sweepstakes is open to all Vizsla dogs and bitches 6 months of age and under 18 months of age on the day of the show. There is a $22.00 entry fee per dog. When entering the Sweepstakes Class please use the separate entry form (page 11). Forty percent of the entry fee is retained by the Vizsla Club of The Carolinas to defray expenses. Sixty percent is allocated toward cash prizes. Each dog or bitch must be entered in one of the regular classes at this show. The Vizsla Club of The Carolinas offers rosettes for first place awards, and ribbons for second through fourth place in each class. Rosettes are offered for Best in Sweepstakes, Best of Opposite Sex to Best in Sweepstakes, Best in Veteran Sweepstakes, and Best of Opposite Sex to Best in Veteran Sweepstakes. The Club retains 40% of the entry dollars to offset expenses. 10 AKC Rules, Regulations and Guidelines are available on the American Kennel Club Web Site, AGREEMENT I(we) agree that the club holding this event has the right to refuse this entry for cause which the club shall deem sufficient. In consideration of the acceptance of this entry and of the holding of this event and of the opportunity to have the dog judged and to win prizes, ribbons, or trophies, I (we) agree to hold the AKC, the event-giving club, their members, directors, governors, officers, agents, superintendents or event secretary, and the owner and/or lessor of the premises and any provider of services that are necessary to hold this event, and any employees or volunteers of the aforementioned parties, and any AKC approved judge, judging at this event, harmless from any claim for loss or injury which may be alleged to have been caused directly or indirectly to any person or thing by the act of this dog while in or about the event premises or grounds or near any entrance thereto, and I (we) personally assume all responsibility and liability for any such claim; and I (we) further agree to hold the aforementioned parties harmless from any claim for loss, injury or damage to this dog. 13 AKC National Owner-Handled Series (Remember to check the box in the owners area on the entry form to qualify) The AKC National Owner-Handled Series is a non-titling competition for dogs that are exhibited by their owners that are not professional handlers. All dogs that are owner-handled and are not owned or exhibited by professional handlers* meet the requirements for this competition. Exhibitors must declare their dog is Owner-Handled eligible at the time of entry using the check box on the entry form. Eligible dogs will be identified by an asterisk in the judge s book, steward s book & the catalog. Dogs must be handled throughout the breed level competition for the regular show by an eligible owner. Professional handlers, household members and current assistants** to professional handlers may not exhibit the dog in any competition during the entire show. Owner-Handled Best of Breed will be selected from the dogs that are eligible to compete in the Best of Breed competition including Winners Dog, Winners Bitch and winners of the non-regular classes. If the Best of Breed winner is Owner-Handled competition eligible, it will automatically be Owner-Handled Best of Breed. If the Best of Breed winner in not eligible for Owner-Handled competition and the Best of Opposite Sex to the Best of Breed is eligible, the Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed will compete against the eligible exhibits of the other sex to determine Owner-Handled Best of Breed. If neither the Best of Breed nor the Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed are Owner-Handled competition eligible and Select Dog & Select Bitch are both eligible, the judge is to choose Best Owner-Handled exhibit from the Selects and eligible Winners Dog or Winners Bitch. If one of the Selects is eligible, excuse all Champions and non-regular class winners of the same sex and then choose Best Owner-Handled exhibit from the remaining dogs or the opposite sex including the eligible Winners. If Best of Breed, Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed, Select Dog & Select Bitch are not eligible, the judge may choose any eligible dog remaining in the ring including Winners Dog or Winners Bitch as Owner-Handled Best of Breed. If the Best of Winners is eligible, the other Winner is ineligible since it was defeated. No class dogs other than the Winners Dog & Winners Bitch are eligible to return to the ring. *Professional handlers are defined as any person who belongs or has belonged to a professional handlers organization, distributed rate cards, or otherwise advertised or represented themselves as handling dogs for pay with the last five years. **A current assistant is defined as anyone employed by a professional handler on a full-time basis, or, assisting a professional handler at the show or any show during the cluster/ weekend. 13

14 JUNIOR SHOWMANSHIP COMPETITION Novice: This shall be for boys and girls who are at least 9 years old and under 18 years old on the day of the show and who at the time entries close have not won three (3) first place awards, with competition present, in a Novice Class at a licensed or member show. Open: This class shall be for boys and girls who are at least 9 years old and under 18 years old on the day of the show, and who have won three first place awards in a Novice Class in a licensed or member show, with competition present. Junior Handlers who win a third Novice Class with competition present after the closing of entries for a show may transfer their entry from the Novice Class to the Open Class provided that this transfer is made by the Superintendent or Show Secretary at least one-half hour prior to the scheduled start of Junior Showmanship judging at the show. Bitches in season are not eligible to compete. No entry may be changed or cancelled unless notice of the change or cancellation is received in writing by the Superintendent or Show Secretary named in the premium list to receive entries, prior to the closing date and hour for entries, except that a correction may be made from one age division to another provided this transfer is made by the Superintendent or Show Secretary at least one half-hour prior to the scheduled start of any Junior Showmanship class at the show. A dog may be substituted for another provided the Superintendent or Show Secretary is notified in writing at least one half-hour prior to judging of any junior showmanship classes at the show. Junior, Intermediate and Senior Classes: Each of the regular classes are divided by age into Junior, Intermediate and Senior Classes. A Junior Class shall be for boys and girls who are at least 9 years old and under 12 years old on the day of the show. The Intermediate class shall be for boys and girls who are at least 12 years old and under 15 years old on the day of the show. The Senior Class shall be for the boys and girls who are at least 15 years old and under 18 years old on the day of the show. Master Class: For Boys and Girls at least 9 and under 18 years of age on the day of the show and who have won ten (10) Best Junior Handler awards with competition. The calendar for this class will be consistent with the eligibility dates for the AKC National Championship. All juniors meeting the criteria for this class are required to enter the Master Class and may change their entry the day of the show if entries have already closed. Once the eligibility time frame for the year has passed, all participants return to the Open Class to compete for the following year. Best Junior Handler: The Vizsla Club of America, Inc. offers a prize for Best Junior Handler. The Junior Handler placed first in each of the regular Junior Showmanship Classes shall automatically be eligible to compete for this prize. Winning first place in an Open Junior Showmanship Class at this show may qualify or count toward qualification for entry in certain future limited Junior Showmanship Classes which have been approved to date by AKC. NOTICE TO ALL EXHIBITORS Rules Applying to Dog Shows Effective September 12, CHAPTER 11, SECTION 1. No dog shall be exhibited in a licensed or member dog show, except for dogs entered in the Miscellaneous Class unless it is either individually registered in the AKC Stud Book, or individually registered with a foreign registry organization whose pedigrees are acceptable for AKC registration. A recording fee of 50 for each dog and an AKC Event Service Fee of $3.00 will be required for each recordable single entry class at any Licensed or Member Club Show or Obedience Trial. The club and its members assume no responsibility for wrong or incomplete information given on the entry blank by the owner or the owner s agent. Returned checks do not constitute a valid entry. The returned items must be made good by cash or money order before the dog will be allowed in the ring. Entries not on official AKC Entry Forms and photocopies of entry forms without the Agreement and Rules on the reverse side of the Official AKC Entry Form are not acceptable. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to have his/her dog ready at ringside when the steward calls the class. Owners and/or their handlers are responsible for making sure their dog is present in the ring. This means it is not the responsibility of the ring steward, nor any agent, nor the show-giving club to locate any dog, its owner or handler. There is no American Kennel Club or club rule requiring a judge to wait for an owner or handler to enter the ring. Owners must familiarize themselves with the agreement of the American Kennel Club referred to on the reverse side of the entry blanks that accompany this premium list. It is distinctly understood that every dog at this show is in the care, custody and control of its owner or handler during the entire time of the Specialty weekend. The club, its officers or members will not assume any responsibility for any loss, damage or injury sustained by an exhibitor or agent. Entry fees shall not be refunded in the event a dog is absent, disqualified, sick, lame, excused by veterinarian or judge, barred from competition by action of the show committee, or because the dog is ineligible to compete due to being entered incorrectly. There is no entry fee refund for duplicate entry or for bitches in season. The Vizsla Club of the Carolinas may decline any entries for cause and may refuse to receive or may remove any dog on account of disease, viciousness or other causes, and no one shall have any claim or recourse against the club or any official thereof. Entry fees will not be refunded if it is impossible to open or complete the show because of riots, civil disturbances, fires, extreme and or dangerous weather conditions, an act of God, public emergency, acts of a public enemy, or other acts or cause beyond the control of the club or the Show Secretary. Foreign exhibitors must submit entries with checks drawn on U.S. accounts or with international money orders in U.S. funds. Returned checks/invalid credit/debit cards do not constitute a valid entry fee. Fees must be paid in guaranteed funds. Personal checks will not be accepted as replacements for dishonored checks or invalid credit/debit card payments. The Superintendent will add a collection fee to the amount of each returned check & credit/debit card for completing the transaction and/or reprocessing the entries.
