1 SAR K-9 Skills Track Class Title: Scent Specific Drills for Air Scent handlers This class covers the most recent court decisions involving contraband detector dogs and human scent dogs and how those court rulings apply to dogs used in criminal cases. This class is a must for Human Remains Detection dog handlers. Class is Intended For: SAR manager and K9 handlers Instructor: Jonni Joyce Student Limit: unlimited Class Title: Problem Solving Training for the HRD K9 HRD Search Scenarios will be available all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Handlers will be able to work on training the reliable final response as well as conduct search scenarios that challenge the skill level of the canine team. Imprinting station, final response stations, and scenarios will be provided. Testing. Class is Intended For: HRD K9 handlers Instructor: Jonni Joyce Scheduled Times: Fri, Sat, & Sun Student Limit: unlimited Class Title: K 9 Double Blind Training Methodology: When Certification Isn t Enough The reliability of the K9 team will determine the outcome of your search. Some teams are more reliable than others. Using statistical analysis, we can now apply scientific research methodology to the K9 team and thus created an accurate reliability rating. At the end of this block of instruction, the student will learn the definition of double blind, how to correctly set up double blind scenario based training and evaluation for all K9 disciplines, and how to determine the reliability of the canine team using repetition, randomization, and double blind testing. Class is Intended For: Intermediate air scent dogs with reliable recall refined. Scheduled Times: Saturday & Sunday Student Limit: 6 handlers, unlimited observers Class Title: Trailing Scent Discrimination Skills and Drills Trialing Scent Discrimination Learn a variety of easy to set up drills to focus on improving reliability for scent discrimination in trailing. Class is Intended For: Dog has basic trailing foundation Student Limit: 6 handlers, unlimited observers Class Title: Intro to Disaster Search & Rescue K-9 Brief introduction to disaster search & rescue, the differences between disaster and wilderness search, and why you should be prepared with the basics. Class is Intended For: Air Scent Handlers Instructor: Northwest Disaster Search Dogs Scheduled Times: Saturday & Sunday Student Limit: Unlimited, No dogs

3 Class Title: Training with Intention Tools to bring back to training at home Goal setting short and long-term goals for the individual dog team and the K9 unit as a whole Training Day Game Plan how to maximize Dept/Team training days Defining Objectives Identifying variables/objectives for individual training problems Training Attitude approaching every problem with a training attitude - as an individual and as a team discussions will be tailored to meet needs of those attending Class is Intended For: Appropriate for any K9 discipline Scheduled Times: Saturday & Sunday Student Limit: Unlimited, No dogs Class Title: Isolating Training Variables What, Why and How of making every training problem beneficial for handler and dog. Discussions will be tailored to meet needs of those attending. Class is Intended For: Appropriate for any K9 discipline Student Limit: Unlimited Class Title: K9 First Aid Your role as a K9 First Responder K9 First Aid Scene and Patient Assessment, Head to Tail Exam, Knowing your Dogs Normals, Bandaging and Bleeding, Extremity Injuries, Ocular injuries, Environmental Injuries (Hyperthermia and Cold Injuries) and Other Commonly Observed Injuries. Class is Intended For: Appropriate for any K9 discipline. Basic First Aid, Wilderness first Aid, Mountain Oriented First Aid or Wilderness First Responder Course helpfull. 4 Class Title: AKC CGC Evaluation This is an evaluation session for the AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certification. Handlers and their dogs will be evaluated on the 10 elements of the CGC. Accepting a friendly stranger Sitting politely for petting Appearance and grooming Out for a walk (walking on a loose lead) Walking through a crowd Sit and down on command and Staying in place Coming when called Reaction to another dog Reaction to distraction Supervised separation Class is Intended For: Handler and their dogs must be ready for the CGC. This is an intermediate level field exercise that will provide the student with information including scent theory, drive building, training progression and much more. Obedience and the relationship with your partner is a critical foundation to your K9 SAR career. We will discuss training techniques and strategies for the AKC CGC Evaluation. Your K9 SAR partner is a Good Citizen. The AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) evaluation has 10 elements and was designed for the pet dog. Learn the tips and tricks for working dogs.
