8 Georgetown Animal Services Volunteer Opportunities April 2018 April 1, am to 10am Holiday Helpers The shelter is closed for the holidays but the dogs and cats still need our love. Staff runs on a skeleton crew these mornings to feed, walk, clean, and provide special treats for the animals. The goal is always to be done in two hours or less. If you are able to come help the staff take care of the dogs and cats on either or both of these days, please let me know. Assignments will be sent the week before the Easter. April 3, am Dog Baths (weather permitting) If the weather is warm enough, we would like to give baths to all dogs going to this weekend s adoption event. April 7, am-2pm HEB on Williams Dr *SPECIAL EVENT* Meet at the shelter at 10:15 am to walk a dog to go potty prior to the event. The HEB on Williams Dr. has invited us out to have an adoption event at their store. April 7, 2018 Noon New Volunteer Orientation If you know someone that would like to volunteer, please tell them about this orientation (lasts about 1 hr). April 10, am-11am--Park Place Assisted Living Take a dog to visit residents at this Assisted Living home. Meet at the shelter at 9:30 to walk a dog to go potty prior to loading into your own vehicle for the short trip to Park Place. At Park Place, you will help the dogs visit with the residents. April 10, am Dog Baths (weather permitting) If the weather is warm enough, we would like to give baths to all dogs that are in need. April 10, pm New Volunteer Orientation If you know someone that would like to volunteer, please tell them about this orientation (lasts about 1 hr). April 17, am Dog Baths (weather permitting) If the weather is warm enough, we would like to give baths to all dogs going to this weekend s adoption event. Page 8 of 11
9 Georgetown Animal Services Volunteer Opportunities April 2018 April 19, pm-3pm Brookdale Alzheimer Resident Home Take a dog to visit residents at this Alzheimer s home. Meet at the shelter at 1:30 to walk a dog to go potty prior to loading into your own vehicle for the short trip to Brookdale. At Brookdale, you will help the dogs visit with the residents. April 21, am-2pm--PetSmart IKEA Adoption Event Meet at the shelter at 9:15 am to walk a dog to go potty prior to the event. April 21, pm-3pm Planet Cat Event at PetSmart Georgetown If we have any kittens, we need one cat volunteer to sit with them in the training ring at PetSmart during the Planet Cat Event. PetSmart is promoting this event nationwide and will have giveaways for shoppers and potential adopters. April 24, am Dog Baths (weather permitting) If the weather is warm enough, we would like to give baths to all dogs going to this weekend s adoption event April 28, am-4pm Red Poppy Festival *SPECIAL EVENT* **Shifts are 10am to 1pm and 1pm to 4pm** Georgetown is hosting the 19 th annual Red Poppy Festival from April 27 th through 29 th and the Shelter Dogs received an invitation! Sign up to show off an adoptable dog wearing their Festival Best in hopes of finding a fur-ever home! This event will be covered in shifts. The morning shift will meet at the shelter at 9:15 to walk a dog to go potty prior to loading up in the ACOs truck. The afternoon shift will come directly to the Festival at 1:00 to relieve the morning crew. **We Need You** Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoons dog walkers are in need of extra assistance. If you are able to help out, please let us know. **Reminders** Don t forget to re-certify for dog walking. If you have already completed Level 1 and are interested in Level 2, please let me know, I will send you the dates. Page 9 of 11
