Fantastic Farm Animals Best So Cool Magazine Ever Amazing Family Cute Animals 2014
Letter from the Editor Hi my name is Sierra Hurlbutt hope you like my magazines. My magazines goal was to show others all about Farm Animals because who doesn't like Farm Animals! First I would like to thank all my writers and and anyone who designed an add for me, it was greatly appreciated! My personal goals, to do the best that I can do. It was hard to make the magazine because people wouldn't get there articles in on time, also writing in general is just very hard for me. My favorite article that someone wrote for me was black sumatras by Maddy Haak! I really liked this article because I really love Black Sumatras in general. I love this breed because they are tall and very smart. I also liked her article because she put humor into it. My favorite article I wrote for someone else is the German Shepherd Full page ad for Mady Haak magazine. I liked this article because it was fun and short and not long and not boring. (To understand look at the ad please) One of the things that inspired me to write this magazine is my animals! It was the fair in the summer and I just love the fair and animals overall I did very well at the fair. Like.. I got Grand Champion and Reserve Champion. My animals are sweet and adorable. They all are different in their own ways. they can be shy and or sweet. My dad also likes to take my pigs to the fair. My mom also likes that too. We show pigs, rabbits, chickens, i am going to show sheep and ducks. I have showed cats and dogs but I just could not do it anymore. why I had to quit dogs because my dog chased other dogs and that in the summer I have soccer the same day and the same time. So thats why I quit dogs why I quit cats because it was just too much work I had to bathe them. I am in sixth grade at Fox West Academy in Hortonville, WI. Before coming to Fox West Academy I attended Hortonville Middle School in Hortonville, WI. I have three sisters Selena who is seven years old, Savana who is in is nine, and Alexa who is thirteen. I also have Cece my dog. I live in Stevensville, WI.
Dear Editor of Farm Animals, Your magazine is so educational; it teaches others about farm animals. How you feed and care for them. The article about all the different cow species was really interesting. Learning about all the different cows, helped figure out what each type of cow was at my cousin s farm. Love a Cow Lover, Rachel. Ashley

Hello, my name is Makenna and I love dogs and puppies. They are so adorable and they make really good best friends. Dogs are always there for you. When you are down they lick your face with a big slurp. Dogs love to be loved and pet, they want to be wanted! I have two dogs right now, and one is seven years old and one isn t even one yet. When my seven year old dog was littler he loved to chase animals. name and he came running up toward my dad, then my dad quickly looked through his scoop and found the goose he shot the goose and BAM! He was dead. After wards my dad and my dog came inside and my dog was really happy. My dog loves attention and hunting. He gets so excited. So my dog could not stop wagging his tail! - Written by: Makenna Krause My dad was hunting in our yard one day, and geese came into our decoys. My dad took his time and put the safety off. As he was about to shoot my dog came running around the corner of the house and he was just running straight toward the geese, tongue hanging out and everything. He came running and my dad shot because otherwise in a couple of seconds. He hit a Goose!! But it didn t fall to the ground. My dog came chasing right to the goose that my dad shot and the goose got up and my dog stood up on his hind legs and it looked like the goose and my dog were dancing it was really funny. So they my dad called his

Allergic to My Best Friend By Greg Hall Several years ago, while at a doctor s, I learned that my best non-human friend who had caused much joy and happiness was also causing me to sneeze, cough, and get a stuffy nose. The doctor s test proved what I was hoping wasn t the case; I was allergic to my dog, Ember. My doctor concluded that I had an oversensitive immune system and that Ember s dander caused my body to overreact and treat it as if it was a bacteria or virus. My doctor went on to correct a common held misconception that dander is the underfur of a dog and informed me that dander was in fact flakes of dead skin. I had thought that the shedding fur was what caused people to react. In addition to this dandruff, the proteins found in dog saliva were causing me problems. What to do next? At this point, my family and I were not willing to consider getting rid of Ember as was suggested by my doctor. Eager to find alternative solutions to my problem, I began to talk with others and surf the internet for possible answers. I found several suggested solutions ranging from medicine to purchasing air cleaners. Of all the suggestions I found, here were the ones that my family decided to try. Increasing baths - According to a 1999 study in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, washing your dog with allergen-reducing shampoo for five minutes cuts the dog s allergen levels by about 85 percent. Ember has never been one to get overly excited about bathing, so she didn t necessarily like increasing this one. We did find that this in fact did help. Sleeping solo Another suggestion that my family was willing to try was having Ember sleep someone other than our bedroom. For as long as I can remember Ember always slept aside our bed. Ember has gotten a tad more stubborn over the years and needed retraining regarding not napping on our furniture and in my bed. I can t report back on how successful this has been yet because as the saying goes It is hard to teach an old dog new tricks. Medications Since we decided we did not want to get rid of Ember, I decided to schedule a second appointment to discuss using medications to control some of my symptoms. I learned of numerous persons that found using medications with the previous mentioned strategies lessoned the impact of the allergic reaction. Hypoallergenic dogs - In my research I had also read much about certain breeds of dogs having lesser volumes of dander thus reducing the impact. As interesting as this sounded, a dog swap was really not an option at this time. Perhaps this would be something we consider in the future years. All in all, I was happy to find out that there were some options for me to try that meant I would not have to say goodbye to one of my best friends.

My name is Makayla Mashlan and I have always wanted a pet. I told my mom I wanted a horse but she said that I should try for something a bit smaller. I wanted a dog but my dad said a dog would be a lot of work and we like to travel a lot and we can t leave the dog alone and it would be too much money to take the dog to doggy day care. I asked for a rabbit for about 2 years and we finally started looking around for rabbits. On May 12, 2012 I went to the 4-H pet swap in Seymour. There were many breeds of rabbits to choose from. There were big and small, young and old. I was looking at a cage full of small, light brown bunnies that lots of other people were looking at when I saw a cage of dutch bunnies that were about 5 months old. There were many black and white dutch rabbits and there was one brown and white bunny. I asked if I could pick up the brown one and I did. The bunny went onto my shoulder and started licking me as I petted him. I instantly fell in love. I asked my mom if I could have him. She said that I should keep looking before I make a decision but I pleaded to have him. Finally, she gave in and let me have him. I had to pay $8 but he is worth way more than that. It took me a while for me to come up with a name and when somebody asked me I said Hershey and it was official. I bought a small cat carrier with me but I let Hershey stay on my lap during the car ride home from the pet swap When we got home I put Hershey into a small wire cage that I got from Sierra Hurlbutt. Hershey was a bit shy at first and he refused to eat his treats. After less than a month, Hershey started to eat the treats that I gave him and felt at home. I have taught Hershey how to come when called, somewhat walk on a leash, and stand on his back legs when I say the command up. After a few months I bought Hershey a new cage that was a lot bigger than the wire one. Inside of the cage is Hershey s litter box, his hay, water, and food. After about 5 months Hershey got a new cage upgrade. My mom bought Hershey a playpen for my birthday that attached to Hershey s cage. Our family took a trip to Minnesota to visit some friends in the summer. There was a festival and there was a lumberjack show. I won a small, wooden chair for yelling Timber! the loudest. It was the perfect size for Hershey so I gave it to him. He loves to sit on the chair. In the winter Hershey gets to live in our garage instead of outside because it gets really cold. He likes to play in the snow and ride in the sled down our small hill that we have in our backyard. Below is a picture that I took of Hershey ready to go down the hill. Hershey is very special to me and he gets spoiled a lot. He is a part of my family. By: Makayla Mashlan

THE BRAVE LITTLE FARM PIG By Mikayla Wollner There was once a farm situated on the outskirts of a village, called Bimbo s Farm. There were lots of animals there cows, sheep, chickens and a little piggy called Pinky, who had been the last to arrive as he was only two months old. Pinky was a very playful little pig, who liked spending time with the sheep grazing out on the meadows. He would run behind them until Pluto the sheepdog told him off for not letting the sheep eat in peace. So he would stop bothering them until Pluto s attention was turned elsewhere For all his peskiness, Pinky was a very brave little pig, for one day when the sheep were out on the field he saw a wolf creep up in the bushes and pass unnoticed in front of the napping Pluto. All at once, the wolf bounded out of the bushes and made straight for the sheep, but Pinky Acted quickly and warned them to run as fast as they could back to Pluto. Hearing the sheep baa-ing madly, Pluto awoke with a start and raced to defend them by frightening off the wolf. From then on Pinky became known as the brave little pig at Bimbo Farm, for it was thanks to him that the sheep were not injured by the wicked wolf. And so the sheep and the little pig Pinky became firm friends, and the sheep no longer minded the little pig playing with them.
