14 Fox and Goose One day, when a fox was having dinner, a bone got stuck in its throat. Soon the fox was in great pain. It spent a long time trying to get the bone out, but it could not. t last the fox went to a goose and said, If you take this bone out of my throat I will give you a reward for your work. So the goose put its long neck into the fox s mouth and pulled out the bone. Then the goose asked for its reward. The fox said, You already have your reward. You should thank me for not biting off your head while it was down my throat. 14

16 Mosquitoes Zzzzzzzzz! You would probably have heard or seen a mosquito before. These small insects can give you very itchy bites. Mosquitoes live in most areas of the world, especially in tropical areas. What most people don t know, however, is how mosquitoes develop. 4 fter about two days, the pupa s skin opens and the adult comes out and flies away. dults usually live for one to two weeks. adult 1 dult females lay their eggs in standing water. The eggs float on the water surface. air water pupa eggs 3 fter one to two weeks, when the larvae are fully grown, they turn into pupae. The pupae also breathe through a tube but do not eat. larva 2 Within two days, the eggs hatch to become larvae that live under water. The larvae swim to the surface to breathe through a thin tube. They eat algae or bacteria. 16
