Some have lost their homes by the death or illness of their owners. Many are aged and will spend the rest of their years here. All have been in rehab. Hot weather.sudden heavy rain and lightning. Bailing hay, tending to a big garden, welcoming 2 new abandoned kittens, finding a forever home for a senior dog that was given up...and just everyday chores, vet visits, feet trims, and two more sad cases that have been given hope and healing. Every month through our community activities, FB, the newsletter and word of mouth our support base increases as Brenda and Cecil continue to give back to their community and show the love and care for the horses, dogs, cats and birds they have rescued. 2 Cooper==Before rescue and Brendas first picture.. Sad.. Cooper Relaxing as he receives a therapeutic massage from Cheryl Spade on July30, one day after his rescue, Meet Cooper! Cooper is an owner surrendered horse. His boarding facility was changed several months ago by the then owner. However since it was the responsibility of the then owner to provide feed and care, that did not happen. Cooper was abandoned by his owner and left to fend for himself. The situation was reported to the owner of the property and Brenda was contacted. The property owner assumed responsibility and asked if Brenda could adopt him. He is very thin, feet overgrown and full of thrush, and lame. He came to the rescue July 29th and is undergoing the care he needs to recover. His feet have been trimmed and on Sunday, a therapeutic massage from Cheryl Spade. That may seem a bit strange but watching Cooper relax and be able to put his sore foot down was a convincing picture to this editor. Cheryl K. Spade is from Lyndon, KS and has been a certified massage therapist for over 10 years. However, she recognized a need for therapeutic massage for our 4 legged friends and took extensive training to become certified specializing in horses and dogs. 4 VBS at Carbondale -Ted and Lynn s visit was a great culmination to VBS on Saturday, July 29th. Pictured to the right was our youngest rider who cried when her rides were over. She is definitely taken by Ted and his gentle ways. Thank you for the opportunity to share Ted and Lynn and their rescue story A perfect evening, with terrific kids, parents and teachers celebrating the joy of VBS and these gentle Belgian giants. What We Need and What We Have Many of you have visited B & C Rescue and recognize the time, work, patience and love that go into caring for the 28 equines that call it home. Some are permanent residents because of age or physical problems and some are awaiting their forever new homes. If you have visited, you are amazed at the feeling and atmosphere of the rescue. The horses are handled and checked for any problems at least twice per day. Fly masks, and fly leg coverings on most horses with forganic fly spray at easy reach for them. Stalls are cleaned as is the barn everyday. The paddocks are mowed and manure removed as needed. The horses mill about and put themselves in front of the BIG fans in the barn during the heat of the day. What we have A group of committed volunteers and supporters; trusted Veterinarians, and other professionals that help with the horses health, a supportive rural community, a county Sheriff who works closely with the rescue regarding abused and neglected equines, and many prayers and long distance support. What We Need.. Continued financial support to help with veterinary care, bags of THRIVE feed, bales of shavings, salt blocks, large bales of hay, and miscellaneous supplies such as vetwrap. 5 Trooper aka Troubadour This is Troubadour one week ago while people were scrambling to save him from shipping to slaughter in Mexico. He could barely stand and didn't even shake his head to get rid of the flies. Trooper s Story Trooper (Troubadour) is that kind of super sweet, super trained and experienced horse that many only dream about. And yet he was sold and shipped to Oklahoma kill lot to await his final trip...to Mexico. Trooper was a ranch horse...mr Reliable on the trails, easy riding and loyal.but he was getting older...so.. He ended up in Oklahoma awaiting his fate. However, because of the great work of some gals who work diligently to see that as many horses as possible are saved.his bail was paid and Brenda and Cecil assumed responsibility for him. He was very dehydrated and needed vet clearance for transportation. He is thought to have fallen in the transport truck to OK and was stepped on by other horses. Fortunately no bones were broken but he is very sore and surely wondering what was happening to him. He wasn't able to travel when his transportation was available so he is still recovering at the Veterinary clinic. Brenda and Cecil are expecting him to arrive within a few days. 6 A Post from Brenda On FaceBook August 1st As I get ready to head out to feed Cooper this morning, I think of what Hell, he has been thru. after listening and investigating it is no surprise he is in this condition In 2014 he was bought locally, by an inexperienced person that only wanted a fast horse to run, Run she did to the point of crippling him, a KC vet recommended him euthanized, the owner didn't want that so gave him to another idiot that starved him. Then he was boarded where at least he was fed hay, but that stable said enough, and that person had to find another place to board. Fees not paid, vaccinations and general care, none, and didn't bother to come see him! The gal moved him June 2017, paid one month board-- that was it, no farrier, worming, vaccinations, pretty much abandoned. Thru networking, we were notified that Cooper needed rescued before he was scooped up by another idiot, a KB, or sent to auction because of board not being paid. Cooper is in bad shape, feet not taken care of, one foot had to be trimmed before he could get in the trailer. It has an abscess that will blow out his heal bulb, very painful. BUT to hear him whinny, GOOD MORNING!! makes my heart skip a beat with joy! We will do everything possible to help him be comfortable and never be starved or neglected again. Brenda Meet Anna Garner- Volunteer and Friend Anna Garner, a gal with unconditional love and respect for the horses she meets through her job as a farrier and her volunteering at the B & C Rescue. But farrier and volunteer is not her only title at the rescue. She is a friend with an open ready and willing to help others as best as she can. Anna comes to many of the horse ride events held away from the resc to help lead the horses and interact with the kids, always with a smile. She helps Brenda and others in ways that her experience with equines gives. Anna is a champion of animal rescue and devotes much of her free time and horsemanshi to helping B & C. She supports other non profits and local money raisers, loves those trailrides for Meals on Wheels. Thank you Anna, for EVERYTHING!!
