For additional information check the Bark Park website at The Bark Park offers two specific types of memberships to use the park. Coupon books are good for a dog owner who possibly lives a little farther from the Bark Park and daily use of the facility is probably not possible. A coupon book is good for one year from date of purchase and gives flexibility and a lower cost to someone who might only use the facility occasionally: 7 visits for $25.00 Will Coupon Books Work for You? 12 visits for $40.00 There is an additional cost for the second dog in the household. The best option for a membership is unlimited use of the Bark Park for an annual rate of $ for first time members and $ annually for all members. Additional dogs in the same household are $20.00 each.

4 Bark Park Dog / Human Fit-Walk Do you ever feel you have no time for exercise? Do you like to walk your dog? The Bark Park has a walk for YOU! We have developed a walk around our property with areas to stop for exercise. This is an all-level of ability walk. You can walk with or without your dog. We provide instructions for the exercises and a resistance band to use along the way. The walk starts at the parking area near the Come, Sit, Stay Café. There is a mailbox with the instructions and resistance bands. The walk takes anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour, depending on your pace. How does it work? Easy! You walk, skip, or run across the grassy terrain of the park stopping at numbered stations. At each station, there is an exercise. Read over the instructions and perform the exercise for 1 minute. Then move on! You set your own speed. There are tips on the instruction cards for making each exercise easier or harder, depending on your level of fitness. If walking to all 10 stations is a bit too much, start small! Walk out to station number one and then back to your vehicle. See if you can gradually add a station each time you come out. When you return to the parking area, take a moment to stretch any tight muscles, and return the instruction cards and resistance band to the mailbox for other users. Visit the Come, Sit, Stay Café for a cold beverage and a snack for you and your furry companion. That s it! We welcome your feedback, as this is a new idea for using our awesome facility. Move on and get fit!

5 You Are The Greatest! August 5, Member Appreciation Event, Mark Your Calendar! To show you our appreciation for your support of the Bark Park facility and the Dog House services, August 5 th is declared Bark Park Appreciation Event. We encourage all Bark Park and Dog House members to come and learn what the Bark Park means to dog owners in the community. Enjoy a peaceful evening, from 4:00 pm 7:30 pm while you sit, relax and socialize with other Bark Park/Dog House members. Find out the history of the Bark Park, proposed new programs, meet the staff and discuss your ideas and suggestions so we can grow together to further promote this great asset to our community The Bark Park will provide the meat item, and some drinks and members if interested can bring a covered dish to share with other Bark Park members. You can even share with other Bark Park members why you consider the Bark Park important in the life of your dog and your personal support of our programs. This is a family event but sorry, you will have to leave your canine buddy at home. The rain date will be Saturday, August 12 th. Summer Therapy Dog Testing The testers for Alliance of Therapy Dogs will do an initial test in June if there are individuals interested in having a registered therapy dog. If you are interested, go to located in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Check out the section of How to Become a Therapy Dog. 6 When Friends and Relatives Visit with Their Dog Are you visiting family and friends this summer at Conneaut Lake or do you have family and friends visiting and always wondering what to do with the dog(s). Then wonder no more because the Conneaut Lake Bark Park has the answers you need. Come and visit the Bark Park. Overnight boarding, day stays or if your dog loves company try out our day care. When company comes to call and they bring their four legged traveler with them, bring them to the Bark Park. All dogs are welcome at the Bark Park under the following guidelines: 1. Dogs MUST have an up to date shot record and must include Bordetella or as many know it, Kennel Cough. 2. Visitors can walk anywhere on the 65 acres with the dog on a leash. 3. Visitors can use the off-leash areas but cannot go nose to nose with any other dog or play with any dogs in the off leash area. a. This is because all Bark Park dogs pass a free temperament evaluation to play with other dogs. b. Exception would be a visiting dog playing with dogs in the household where they are visiting and those dogs are Bark Park members. 4. The daily fee is $5.00 Some visitors actually kennel their dogs at the Bark Park while visiting relatives or friends and owners walk the dog or play with the dog while they are here. So, have some fun with the canine visitors. If you have additional questions, contact Melanie. You ve Got Mail!!! Four informational mailboxes can be found on the Bark Park property. Below is the location of the mailboxes. 1. Bark Park information by the trailer includes general information, special events, dock diving info, etc. 2. Newsletters can be found directly in front of the parking area. 3. Fitness Path and fitness information is located by the garden near the water pump where you can find instructions, a map of the area, information about the fitness path, pick up an exercise band, and fitness cards. 4. Play dog and member information is in the mailbox by the large dog area.

7 Tips for Socializing Your Dog 1. Daily Walks Are Important a. Going to public places and walking around will help your dog be more comfortable with the world and the people around him. The world is just a little less scary once you have been around the block a few times. b. Use a short leash, not a flexie leash, take different routes, and provide an opportunity to meet new friends and experience a variety of sights. 2. Expose the dog to a wide variety of people from men, women and children. BE sure people approach the dog appropriately. 3. Socializing can start between 3-12 weeks of age for a puppy but even with an older dog, you can teach an old dog new tricks 4. Dog training classes are a great place to meet other dogs and people in a safe and controlled environment. 5. Encourage positive social behavior with treats. But remember to adjust your dog s calorie intake at mealtime to compensate for extra treats during the day. 6. Visit the local dog park and allow your dog to interact in a controlled environment with dogs of equal size, enthusiasm and temperament. 7. Social time is great but don t neglect the other aspects of training and behavior so your dog is a good canine citizen. 8. Be aware of signs of discomfort with your dog when working on socialization. Don t overdo it and be cautious of how your dog is reacting in these situations. Have questions, contact a local trainer. Visit our Web Pages! 8 Facts about Canine Cancer Cancer is the leading cause of death in dogs over the age of 10. In some breeds, it is the leading cause of death regardless of age. According to the Morris Animal Foundation, in dogs over 10 years of age, 50% of deaths are cancer-related. Genetics play a role in the development of cancer for some dogs. Breeds such as Golden Retrievers, Boxers, Bernese Mountain dogs, Greyhounds, and Great Danes are genetically predisposed to certain types of cancer. In addition, unaltered dogs have a greater risk of cancer in the reproductive organs than dogs that have been spayed or neutered. Below is a list of some possible signs of cancer that warrant a visit to your veterinarian. 1. Any new lump or bump 2. A change in size, shape or consistency of an existing lump 3. Runny nose, especially if bloody 4. Difficulty urinating, bloody urine (also common with urinary tract infections) 5. Straining to defecate, thin ribbon like stools 6. Vomiting, diarrhea 7. Weight loss, loss of appetite 8. Limping, change in gait 9. Foul breath, excessive drooling, teeth that have moved 10. Increased water intake and urination 11. Lethargy Remember, these signs do not necessarily mean your dog has cancer. However, your vet should be consulted. Cancer treatment options can include chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgery, or other options to alleviate pain and manage symptoms. You can talk over your options with your veterinarian, family members and friends before you make a decision. Cost may be an issue in choosing treatment. Geert s Canine Cancer Walk is scheduled this year for Saturday, September 16 th at the Bark Park. Forms and information are available on the Bark Park website,
