4 JUDGES BIOGRAPHIES Ika Peiler (Knocknarea, EIR) Thank you for inviting me to judge National Specialty this year. A little bit about me; Together with my husband Ulli, I have been showing and breeding wolfhounds under our kennel name Knocknarea for thirty years. Our first Irish Wolfhound Club of Ireland Specialty Best in Show winner was our homebred Knocknarea Briciu from our second litter. Over the years, Knocknarea hounds have had good success in the show ring, both in Ireland and abroad. They won Best in Show at Breed specialties in Ireland, England and Northern Ireland on nine occasions, Best of Breed at Crufts, many group wins and Best in Show wins at All Breed championship shows. We have made up nine Irish champions, two of which also gained their English title. Numerous Knocknarea hounds have become champions in other countries. Since the beginning of the nineties I have judged Irish wolfhounds at championship level in Ireland and have judged Breed Specialties in Denmark, England (IW Society UK Open), Canada, Germany and the Czech Republic. I am also licensed to judge a number of other hound breeds. I feel honoured by your invitation and am looking forward to meet you and your hounds in September. Robin Pline (Tomahawke, USA) 4 Ika Peiler Knocknarea Irish Wolfhounds For as long as I can remember, dogs have been a part of my life. I grew up with mixed breeds, and was one who always brought home strays for which to find homes. Wolfhounds were a breed that I read about and dreamed of having someday. When I was in college, a few wolfhounds came through the clinic at MSU while I was doing rounds. My love for them grew infinitely while working with these truly gentle giants. When college was done and I found my first job as a technician, a wolfhound walked in the door at my new clinic. It just happened to be one of Gretchen Bernardi s hounds. I decided the someday needed to be now. After many phone calls and visits with many breeders, I met Jodi Allward. Jodi blessed us with our first hound, Wolfdane Brachen Tomahawke, in Through showing her, we met many more people who have been true friends for years. We have been showing and breeding hounds since that time. Living with hounds has expanded my life in more ways than I could have ever imagined. Even now, the best part of my day is to come home and be greeted by all their smiling faces and wagging tails! Thank you for honoring me with the invitation to have fun judging your puppies!
