2 A message from your President I have a few items I would like to let you know about. Most important is the September Board meeting. It will be the first meeting of many to go over the 2018 Springs of Suntree budget needs and requirements. There are many factors in planning the budget for Such as, can we budget effectively and keep the rates the same, or will further increases be necessary, or are we at risk of needing a special assessment in the future should we not increase the reserves contributions? The drainage system is a big item and one that needs to be planned for. If you have questions or ideas, this is the time to express them, because once the budget is set, that's it for a year. All owners are encouraged to attend the Board meeting on Monday, September 18 th at 7 pm. At the September meeting, we will know what the estimated cost of the usual operating bills will be and we will have some pricing on the items the reserve study showed needed to be addressed. That will be our starting point. This would be a good meeting for owners to come to and see how their money is spent. It would also be helpful to have input in determining options for challenges in meeting the increased costs to the same regular bills, much the same as a household would have, as well as the larger challenges the association faces with the aging community including the amenities and the infrastructure that falls under the association s liability. Budget approval is a board vote unless the proposed budget increase is more than 15% of the total assessment bill in a calendar year. Not that anything like that would be required, but even though this is a board vote, owner/member input is greatly desired and requested. Please make an effort to attend the board meetings. Particularly the September, October, and November meetings when the budget is being worked on. I would like people to know how we figure the budget, and why we raised the dues very little last year after many years of maintaining the same rates. And, why there is consideration for a need to raise them again and what the consequences may be if we do not. I want owners to know how their money is spent and what goes into the budget. I would love to know how many owners even look at the budget sent with their coupons. Thank you, Peter Sacco Peter Sacco Pres. BOD
3 Your dog is great and you are a great owner for bagging up your dog s waste. However, it may not occur to you that some of your neighbors do not want you to put your dog waste bag in their trash can. We have received several complaints regarding pet owners disposing of their doggie bags in neighbors trash cans. Many times Waste Management has already come so the dog waste is thrown in an empty can. Would you store dog waste in your garage for days? Your neighbors wouldn t either, not knowingly. Perhaps there are some options to consider in solving this good neighbor challenge: Carry the bag all the way home to your trash can. Ask if it is ok to use their trash can. Only take the liberty to use someone else s trash can if there is already trash in it and Waste Management has not come through to collect yet. There are signs you can put on your trash cans to say do not put pet waste in my can and there are signs you can get that say pet waste friendly. If you see a sign respect the owner s wishes and do not use their can. The association is in no way encouraging you to use someone else s anything without the owner s permission. But clearly there are people who believe trash cans at the curb are public property and unfortunately there are no specific rules or regulations by the association, or from what we can find the county, that help with this issue. So, we are dependent on residents making good choices, respecting their neighbors and accepting that just because you don t have a problem with this, others do and they are entitled to have a poop-bag-free can. Thank you, Management NEW TO THE CLUBHOUSE: Troop A joint Daisy/Brownie troop Girls in grades 1-3 are invited to join. 9 Hundred Acre Hollows, Inc. The August 6 and 20 Sunset in the Hollows were beautiful evenings. Newly mowed trails on Aug 19 made walking easier. The mowing was a very kind donation by Roberto of Suntree Landscaping. The first Sunday in Sept is Labor Day weekend, so we will only have one Sunset in the Hollows on Sept 17 from 6:30 to 8:15 p.m. Hundred Acre Hollows is open by appointment. If you have a group of people who would like to visit, please contact us, and we can set up a date for you. Early morning or evening is best; there is no shade on the trails. Thank you, Bert and Ivan, for repairing the hole in the fence on the north side. Wednesdays are reserved for Brevard County K9 units and their handlers. HAH is all fenced in, and there isn t any place like it in the county where the police and their tracking dogs can train. They usually train in the late afternoon, and if you see several police cars on Wed, don t panic. K9 Copper of the Cocoa Police Department has his own Facebook page. He is an 11 months old Coon Dog and probably has the best nose in the county. He visited HAH on Aug 16. School has started, and it would be great to be able to donate the book At Home with the Gopher Tortoise to every elementary school library in the County. Can you donate $10 for a book? There are 55 schools, so we need a total of $550 for that project. We still need adult and student volunteers to be Rangers. Middle and High School students can earn volunteer hours for school. As mentioned in previous months, we have a large infestation of the invasive species, Cogon Grass. Spraying the Cogon Grass will be costly. We are getting bids now. We are beginning a membership drive. We want people to be part of our organization. 33 individuals and families have donated since last Oct. when we formed HAH. We need your participation and financial help. Student and teacher membership is $10 a year, single adult is $15, and family is $25. Please join us! If 100 families join, that could help cover our operational expenses for We are working on a budget now. We are planning educational meetings and outreach events. Hundred Acre Hollows, Inc is a 501(c) 3 tax exempt foundation. Your donation will allow us to continue restoring the land, protecting the wildlife, and expanding our educational programs to benefit our community. You can send checks to Hundred Acre Hollows, Inc Ida Way, Melbourne, FL Any donations are appreciated! You can also donate through PayPal on our new website, For more information, go to our Facebook page: You may call or hundredacrehollows@gmail.com HUNDRED ACRE HOLLOWS, INC IS DULY REGISTERED WITH THE STATE OF FLORIDA AS REQUIRED BY ITS SOLICITATION OF CONTRIBUTIONS ACT.
