5 PREFACE: The sport of purebred dog competitive events dates prior to 1884, the year of AKC s birth. Shared values of those involved in the sport include principles of sportsmanship. They are practiced in all sectors of our sport: conformation, performance and companion. Many believe that these principles of sportsmanship are the prime reason why our sport has thrived for over one hundred years. With the belief that it is useful to periodically articulate the fundamentals of our sport, this code is presented. Sportsmen respect the history, traditions and integrity of the sport of purebred dogs. Sportsmen commit themselves to values of fair play, honesty, courtesy, and vigorous competition, as well as winning and losing with grace. Sportsmen refuse to compromise their commitment and obligation to the sport of purebred dogs by injecting personal advantage or consideration into their decisions or behavior. The sportsman judge judges only on the merits of the dogs and considers no other factors The sportsman judge or exhibitor accepts constructive criticism. The sportsman exhibitor declines to enter or exhibit under a judge where it might be reasonably appear that the judge s placements could be based on something other than the merits of the dogs. The sportsman exhibitor refuses to compromise the impartiality of a judge. The sportsman respects the AKC bylaws, rules, regulations and policies governing the sport of purebred dogs. Sportsmen find that vigorous competition and civility are not inconsistent and are able to appreciate the merit of their competition and the effort of competitors. Sportsmen welcome, encourage and support newcomers to the sport. Sportsmen will deal fairly with all those who trade with them. Sportsmen are willing to share honest and open appraisals of both the strengths and weaknesses of their breeding stock. Sportsmen spurn any opportunity to take personal advantage of positions offered or bestowed upon them. Sportsmen always consider as paramount the welfare of their dog. Sportsmen refuse to embarrass the sport, the American Kennel Club, or themselves while taking part in the sport. Entries must be signed by owner or agent and submitted with fees. No telephone or fax entries can be accepted. EXPRESS DELIVERY services must include SIGNATURE WAIVER permitting them to be left WITHOUT recipient s signature. 6 MOVE-UPS (Applies to both Obedience & Rally) After a dog earns a title, it may be moved up to the next class in a future trial even though the closing date for the trial has passed. This move-up may be requested if, according to the owners records, the dog has completed the requirements for the title after the closing date of the trial in which the advanced entry is to be made. The request for a move-up must be in writing and presented to the superintendent or trial secretary at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the trial. Please moveup requests to the ODTC Trial Secretary, Susan Gordon at info@gordonshowsec.info Move-ups may be approved provided the next level class and the judge are available and the class has not reached its limit. Please contact the Trial Secretary above for move-up forms and be prepared to supply jump heights for move-up classes. Entry fees will not be refunded in the event the dog is absent, disqualified, excused by a Judge or Veterinarian, or barred from competition by the Trial Committee. If because of riots, civil disturbances, unsafe weather conditions or other acts beyond the control of the Club it is impossible to open or to complete the Trial, no refund of entry fees will be made. RV PARKING There will be a charge of $25.00 per day per hook-up. Your payment must be received by the entry closing date of Wednesday, September 21, The Fairgrounds require that this parking fee be charged whether or not a hook-up is required. MAKE CHECKS PAYABLE to the ORLANDO DOG TRAINING CLUB and mail with your obedience entry to the trial secretary. You will receive a permit (with your Judging Schedule), which must be displayed on your front windshield. LATE RESERVATIONS: If for any reason you are unable to submit your reservation by Wednesday, September 21, 2011, you will be charged $30.00 per day. You must also contact the trial secretary by phone at or info@gordonshowsec.info prior to the show starting date to advise that you will be parking an RV. You will then need to make payment at the trial secretary's table prior to receiving your armband. BITCHES that come into season after the closing date for entries may have the entry fee less $4.00 per dog per class refunded upon written request of the owner or handler before the start of judging on the day of the trial. VACCINATIONS ETC. Exhibitors should follow their veterinarians recommendation to assure their dogs are free of internal and external parasites, any communicable diseases and have appropriate vaccinations. Included in the entry fees: A $3.00 Event Service Fee for the first entry of a dog and a $3.00 Event Service Fee for each additional entry of the same dog will be collected by the American Kennel Club for all Regular AKC classes (fees do not apply to Non-Regular Classes). A Recording Fee of 3.00 will also be collected for each entry of a dog entered at any Licensed or Member Club Obedience. At every licensed or member club rally trial, a recording fee of $3.50 shall be required for the first entry of each dog and a recording fee of $3.00 shall be required for each additional entry of the same dog These fees are collected by the show giving club and are paid to the American Kennel Club. (New AKC Rule Effective September 1, 2011) RALLY EXHIBITORS PLEASE NOTE Rally Advanced and Excellent classes require a jump height and because the class will be ordered by height you MUST supply a jump height on your entry form or the trial secretary will not accept your entry. The trial secretary will not contact you for this information! Consult the AKC rules for Rally at ATTENTION ALL EXHIBITORS * Misconduct at hotels/motels may result in an Event Committee hearing. * Exhibitors are responsible for picking up after their dogs at the Central Florida Fairgrounds and at hotels/motels. Your continued responsibility and respect allow the CF Fairgrounds and hotels / motels to continue to work with ODTC so we can provide you with the best venue possible. Please relieve your dogs in marked areas outside and be careful to not allow your dog to mark or urinate inside or on the buildings, trash cans and cars nearby. Entries will be arranged by Jump Heights in ascending order & will be judged both days in this order. Special Non-Regular Obedience Class Descriptions PRE-NOVICE A & B The Pre-Novice class shall be for dogs that have not received a third qualifying score in a Novice class prior to the closing of the trial. The owner or any other person may handle dogs in this class. Owners may enter more than one dog in this class. However, if a person has handled more than one dog in the first four exercises, that person must provide a handler for the additional dog in the same group exercise. The designation for A is for handlers & dogs who have never earned an obedience title. The designation for B is for handlers & dogs who have titled at any obedience level previously in Optional Title or Regular Titling obedience class or Rally Obedience class. All exercises will be scored as in the Novice class, except the dogs will perform all exercises on leash, which should be 6 feet in length. The exercises, maximum scores and order of judging: 1. Heel on Leash..45 points 4. Recall points 2. Figure Eight points 5. Long Sit...30 points 3. Stand for Examination..30 points 6. Long Down...30 points 7

8 WILD CARD NOVICE This class is for any dog that is capable of performing the Novice exercises and that is eligible under the Obedience Regulations to compete in AKC events. Owners may enter more than one dog, and dogs in this class may be handled by the owner or any other person, and may be entered in other classes at this trial. The Novice exercises will be performed and judged according to AKC Regulations as in the Regular Novice classes, except that verbal praise and encouragement during the exercises are to be encouraged and not penalized. Any additional commands, however, will be penalized. If you wish, you may skip one exercise and receive full credit for that exercise. When you check in tell the steward which exercise you wish to skip. 1.Heel on Leash and Figure 8 40 points 2.Stand for Exam points 3.Heel Free points 4.Recall points 5.Long Sit (1 minute) points 6.Long Down (3 minutes)...30 points WILD CARD OPEN This class is for any dog that is capable of performing the Open exercises and that is eligible under the Obedience Regulations to compete in AKC events. No title is required to enter. Owners may enter more than one dog, and dogs in this class may be handled by the owner or any other person, and may be entered in other classes at the Trial. The Open exercises will be performed and judged according to AKC Regulations as in the regular Open A class, except that verbal praise and encouragement during the exercises will not be penalized. Any additional commands to the dog, however, will be penalized. Upon check-in at ringside, tell the steward which exercise you wish to skip. The judge will excuse you from that specific exercise, while giving you a perfect score for that skipped exercise. You may, if you wish, do all exercises, without skipping any, and your score will be marked on all exercises." Colonial Dr. Turn right and go past the fairgrounds to the first light (Fairvilla Road) and turn left. Turn left at the first drive and follow the signs to the building. OR exit at John Young Pkwy. and turn left. Take John Young Pkwy. to W. Colonial Dr. and turn left. Continue to Fairvilla Road and turn right. Turn left at the first drive and follow signs to the building. East-West Expressway* (Hwy 408) from the East - Exit at John Young Pkwy. (Rt. 423). Go north to W. Colonial Dr. (.7 mi.) and turn left. No title is required to enter. Owners may enter more than one dog. Dogs in this class may be handled by the owner or any other person, and may be entered in another class or classes at the same trial. The Utility exercises will be performed and judged as in the Utility A class, except that verbal praise and encouragement during the exercises will not be penalized (except for signal exercise). Any additional commands to the dog, however, will be penalized. Upon check in at ringside, tell the steward which exercise you wish to skip and the judge may omit that exercise, giving you full credit for the exercise.
