2 MLAR received a call from a nurse at Chester County Hospital. A homeless family was in their lobby asking for help. They were living in a car with eight dogs (three of them pictured above). The nurse called an SPCA in Chester County but they asked for $50 per dog before they would take them. The nurse then called MLAR. We sent a volunteer to pick them up. We didn t ask the homeless family for money. All the dogs were spayed/neutered and received badly needed dental cleanings with extractions. Illustrations and design by R.J. Some people looked at her face and saw a cat with little chance of surviving. We looked at her face and saw love and hope and a chance to help a great cat. What do you see? Animals on cover: Originally posted for free on Craigslist, Cooper was attacked by a larger dog and came to MLAR with multiple injuries. Our vet staff worked with University of Penn to repair and heal his fractured jaw. After wearing a cast on his muzzle for months this spirited puppy is now ready for a new home. Buck the cat was found as a stray and brought to MLAR by a Good Samaritan. The staff of Main Line Animal Rescue s on-site vet hospital has performed thousands of emergency surgeries and pain relieving medical procedures. Their efforts on behalf of the sick and injured can only be described as elephantine. They hear a small cry for help and respond with a Horton-like sense of urgency. Be the Who that makes the difference in the life of a homeless dog or cat by supporting our veterinary fund for animals with special needs or our spay/neuter initiatives. Remember, a donation s a donation no matter how small and every gift is a gift of life. Too many Who s are as bad as too many hounds, With not enough homes for the dogs in our pounds. So spay your cats! And neuter the strays! More pets will find owners with fewer delays.

3 MLAR Training Classes. Main Line Animal Rescue has a full schedule of wildly creative volunteer-driven training classes designed to make the dogs in our kennel more adoptable. Volunteers teach our dogs basic obedience in our wildly successful Petiquette Classes. Volunteers socializing puppies in PK 101 find it wildly entertaining. Volunteers arriving at our weekly Shy Dog Classes or spending time Home Schooling are wildly enthusiastic, eager to get started undoing the damage caused by puppy millers and hoarders. We tame the beasts and coax the creatures big and small, and through patience and love, we turn them into good canine citizens and beloved family members. 4 We found Waldo. Waldo the Pit/Retriever Mix. He was cowering in a trap in Birchrunville. Neighbors reported that the dog was dumped along with a truckload of garbage on the street in front of their homes. If you are a lost cat living on the streets of Philadelphia we will find you. If you are a puppy mill dog locked away in the darkest corner of the darkest barn in Lancaster County, we will find you. If you are a dog with a fractured leg in the back room of an animal control facility and time is running out, we will find you. If your owner died or lost her home for not paying the rent, and you re hiding under a bed with another cat in a cluttered back bedroom on the third floor of an empty house, we will find you. MLAR is relentless when it comes to finding and helping animals in trouble. Alone, frightened, all seems lost? Hold on. We will find you. We found Alex in the classified ads of the Lancaster Farming News - a newspaper that sells tractors and farm equipment. He can now be spotted running in the large fields at MLAR. Someday (with a little luck) you ll be searching for him in his new family s vacation photos. We had no trouble finding Hawkeye. This ten week old was living under a dilapidated trailer near Middletown, Delaware. Twenty-four hours after rescuing Hawkeye, he appeared on The View with Katherine Heigl to promote pet adoption.

5 Volunteering And what is George Curious about? If MLAR were a Curious George book, George would lead an army of heroes who would protect the weak, maintain a great castle, and venture out into the world to fight evil-doers. These heroes would be called volunteers. Have an adventure you ll never forget - volunteer at MLAR.
