2019 Erie County 4-H Project Record Book Name: Age: (as of ) 21 South Grove Street, East Aurora, NY Helping You Put Knowledge to Work Cornell Cooperative Extension is an employer and educator recognized for valuing AA/EEO, Protected Veterans, and Individuals with Disabilities and provides equal program and employment opportunities.
Why Keep Records? Good records will: Help you to learn about animals, their growth, production, the feed they require, the cost of the feed and their habits. Help you plan future projects. Let you know if you made money or lost it and how much. Improve your management skills. Give you a record of your project and activities. This record will end up being returned so that you will have it for your Personal 4-H Records. You will find that the information will be helpful for you as you plan your future projects and also when it is time to apply for 4-H Awards, scholarships and your future education. REMEMBER Records are no better than what YOU put into them! Objectives: To allow 4-H members: The experience, the obligation and responsibility required in a livestock enterprise. The experience to cope with the values and attitudes of responsibility, in a relatively unsupervised environment. The opportunity to contribute to the family table with meat, or dairy products through the sale of a wholesome product of either a dairy or chevon. The opportunity to have fun with your project through dedication of teaching your goat to work with you and for you. The opportunity to experience competition through showing the animal at a local shows, county fair, involvement in non 4-H organizations (breed organizations, church, school), and to be proud of what you have raised through learning by doing. Paperwork Deadline Dates: All papers with a in the upper right corner are due to the 4-H office on May 1, 2019 by 4:30 p.m. All papers without a are due to the 4-H office by August 1, 2019 at 4:30 p.m. Extra Credit Projects will be turned in at the fair at the arrival exhibitor meeting. I understand that my goat project for the 2019 program year will be complete when I have submitted this COMPLETED record book and met all of the program requirements listed on page 3. 4-H ers Signature: 4-H Parent s Signature:
There are a few items that must be completed in order to show your goat, either dairy, working or meat goat at the fair. They are: You must complete your records and turn them in by the date specified. Keeping accurate records is a very important part of the project. Your record packet will be graded for completeness, neatness and organization. Your score will be added to your Project Champion score. Leased Goats: Lease paperwork is due in the 4-H office on May 1, Meat Goats: You must have possession of your meat goat and submit your project registration form to the 4-H office no later than May 1, All participants are expected to give a Public Presentation. All Public Presentations must have been given in the spring during the county 4-H Public Presentations or by May 13. It is suggested that goats receive a rabies vaccine and you must have a health paper in order to come to the fair. Health papers may be issued from May 1, 2019 on and they will be valid for the fair. Please remember that there is a withholding period on the rabies vaccine and it must be administered at least 21 days prior to their arrival at the fair if administered to a meat goat going through the auction. All participants must attend at least three (3) educational meetings. One being species specific and the others being species specific or generic. All goat participants must submit an Erie County Fair Entry by Monday, July 8, Helping You Put Knowledge to Work Cornell Cooperative Extension is an employer and educator recognized for valuing AA/EEO, Protected Veterans, and Individuals with Disabilities and provides equal program and employment opportunities. 21 South Grove St. East Aurora, NY (716)

Meat Goat - Quality Assurance Pledge NYS 4-H Livestock Raisers Commitment to Excellence (Revised by Erie County Beef Advisory Committee to meet Erie County 4-H Rules and Regulations) All 4-H members engaged in meat animal production activities are expected to review and do the best job that they can do to understand and adhere to the following practices. As a 4-H member, I am learning the best ways to house, feed, manage and care for animals. I am also learning about vaccination practices and health care procedures I can follow to protect my animals from becoming sick or injured. I will inspect facilities for things like cleanliness, animal comfort and safe methods of animal handling and restraint. I will work with my veterinarian and follow my veterinarian s advice and recommendations with all prescription medications. I agree that I will strictly adhere to label directions when using any over the counter medications. I understand that many medications and treatments have withdrawal times. Common medications or treatments include de-worming medicines, vaccinations or shots given to prevent diseases and antibiotics used to treat diseases. I will choose grooming products that I know are safe for humans and animals. I understand that some grooming products are not intended for market animals because they could contain residue-producing or carcinogenic chemicals. I will read product labels and I understand that some may be harmful to my animal or me. Two known harmful chemicals are methylene chloride and toluene. I will learn how to prepare livestock for market by calculating proper withdrawal times for legal medications and treatments. I will learn how to follow state and federal animal identification regulations. I will be honest in reporting my knowledge about treatments before my animals are prepared for show, sale, market or slaughter. I know one of the best ways to ensure a safe food supply is to send animals clean, dry and medication free to market. I will be caring in my relationships and will strive to do others no harm. I am aware that my actions and decisions affect others. If I do not follow these practices, I could be harming myself. I could be harming others. I could be harming the food supply. I could be asked to withdraw from participation in future 4-H Livestock activities. My signature means I have read and will practice the voluntary Quality Assurance Pledge. 4-H er Parent/Guardian Reviewed by: NYS 4-H Animal Science Advisory Panel May 2002/Revised 2006/Revised 2010 (Erie County Beef Advisory Committee)

All dairy goats must be registered if shown at the NYS Fair. Meat goats and recreational goats must be registered or have proper scrapie ID. All registered goats must be tattooed. NEW YORK YOUTH LIVESTOCK NON-OWNERSHIP POLICY The exhibitor, upon request to the event sponsor, shall provide proof of ownership of any exhibit. This non-owner certificate verifies that a 4-H member in New York and the owner of the animal have entered an agreement. A lease agreement allows a 4-H member to use the specified animal as a 4-H project. Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) encourages the use of written lease agreements, however, it is the responsibility of the owner and exhibitor to agree upon the lease terms. Neither CCE nor Cornell University is legally involved in writing, implementing or terminating any lease agreements. The following policy was revised in 2014 by the NYS Youth Goat Advisory Committee. Non-owner/lease opportunities are intended for youth who do not already own an animal of this species type. Youth who own no goats may lease two non-owned goats as 4-H projects but may be restricted to showing only one of these animals per youth fair, youth exhibition, or 4-H show/exhibition at their county s discretion. Youth owning dairy goats may lease one meat goat. Youth owning meat goats may lease one dairy goat. The following bill was legally adopted by the NYS Department of Agriculture & Markets July Exhibits shall have been owned by the exhibitor for a period of at least (30) days prior to the entry of the exhibit provided, however, that any animal exhibit entered in a youth fair, youth exhibition or 4-H show or exhibition shall have been in the care of the exhibitor for a period of at least (60) days prior to entry of the exhibit. 3/2015 ATTACH A SKETCH OR PHOTO TO THIS PAGE Owner: Telephone: Address: Signature of Owner: Name of Youth: Address: Members Signature: Parent Signature: Educator Signature: This animal has been officially designated as the 4-H project animal of the 4H'er as of May 1, 2019.

Market Animal Performance This page is only for your market project. If you are not raising a market animal please mark N/A in one of the boxes. The purpose of this record is to track your animal s performance. The more times you record the information the more possible points you may earn. This chart will help you to assess your feeding so you can reach the proper market weight for fair. At the end of the project, you will calculate your Total Average Daily Gain and reflect on how well your feeding program helped your animal prepare for market. To complete this chart, enter the beginning weight of your calf in the first row. Each time you weigh your animal, enter the information in the following row and determine the ADG. Add more lines as need (an extra copy is with your record) calculate the ADG at the bottom. Complete a self-evaluation on your market project based on these results to determine whether you want to feed your animal the same next year. For direction on how to get weights without a scale view the information in your folder.
