If a property has five bedrooms and the landlord is advertising five rental spaces to students, they are doing so against city code. 1

2 College Station Utilities (CSU) CSU bill includes electricity, water, wastewater and sanitation. Utility accounts may be listed in one name only and the person whose name appears on the account is responsible for payments. The city is not responsible for agreements made between roommates. CSU Contact Information To connect or disconnect utilities, visit cstx.gov/ucs. To report electric, water or wastewater issues, call the 24/7 Utilities Hotline at Meet your Neighbors Introduce yourself to your neighbors and suggest exchanging contact information in case of emergencies or other issues. Notify your neighbors when you plan to host a large gathering. Ask them to contact you with any noise or parking complaints. 2

3 Keep the Noise Down It s unlawful for anyone to willfully make or allow continued loud noise, especially from 10 p.m. 7 a.m. This includes barking dogs. If you can hear the noise at the end of your property line, then it s too loud and everyone on your lease risks receiving a citation. Reporting Noise Complaints If you are bothered by noise and can t resolve the issue on your own, complaints can be reported to the College Station Police Department at Don t Park in the Yard 3

6 Dispose of Trash Properly Household garbage should be bagged, tied and securely stored in your provided container. Don t pile bags on top OR around your containers. Examples of What NOT to Do: Brush & Bulky Collection Bulky collection is for items too big to fit in your garbage container. Not bags of trash. Brush includes tree limbs, shrubs and etc. Items should be neatly stacked within three feet of the curb. If you have both brush and bulky items, separate the piles. 6

Some organization will even pick up the items from your residence. Single Stream Recycling Collected every other week by Brazos Valley Recycling. Accepted items are listed on the top of the blue, recycle container. Recyclables must be dry and free of food debris. Caps from plastics should be removed and discarded. 7

8 Single Stream Recycling Rinse and clean accepted containers to keep your container from getting sticky or smelly. Shredded paper is the only recyclable that should be placed in a clear plastic bag. Loose plastic bags or wrapping is not accepted. Collection Guidelines Containers/items should be placed by the curb by 8 a.m. on your collection day. Don t place containers within four feet of fixed objects or other containers. Collection schedules can be found at cstx.gov/sanitation or download the free MyWaste app. Open Storage Don t store anything in your yard or patio that s not intended for outdoor use. 8

9 Other City Code Violations Weeds/grass shouldn t be higher than 12 inches. Fliers and signs should not be placed on utility poles, street signs or in the public right of way. Learn more and report violations by visiting cstx.gov/codeenforcement Bringing a Pet to College? Dogs and cats are required to be licensed, tagged and rabies vaccinated in Brazos County. Dogs must remain on a leash when not on your property. Always clean up after your pet.
