2 JCJLAB 2 GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS 1. EXHIBITORS ARE EXPECTED to familiarize themselves with the rules, regulations, and code of ethics of this show. 2. ENTRIES: In order for a student to show an animal in the Johnston County Junior Livestock Show, they will need to turn in their Entries their respective Ag Teacher, or to the OSU Extension Office by the second Thursday in December no later than 3:30pm. Entry fees will be $5 per animal. Animals will have to be identified. Acceptable identification is as follows Steers: OYE Tag, Noble Tag, Legible Tattoo, brands or JCJLAB tag are acceptable ways of identification. Tags must be installed in the ear Heifers: Legible Tattoos or a JCJLAB issued tag. Sheep: OYE Tag, Scrapie Tag, or JCJLAB issued tag. Swine: OYE Tag, or ear notch. Swine must have an ear notch, (ear notches must be healed). All Swine must have an 840 EID tag at the time of check-in. Goats: OYE Tag, Scrapie Tag or JCJLAB issued tag. Identification tags, ear notches, and/or tattoos must be affixed to the animal at the time of entry. Ear Tags must be installed. JCJLAB tags will only be used if the other ways of identifying are not available. Livestock entered in this show and sale and brought upon the Johnston County Fairgrounds by any person shall be subject to all rules, regulations, and code of ethics of this show as set forth by the sponsors; the Johnston County Junior Livestock Advisory Board. 3. INTERPRETATION OF RULES: The JCJLAB reserve the absolute right to interpret these rules and regulations and to arbitrarily settle and determine all matters, questions, or differences in regards to matters of this show as they see fair to the youth of Johnston Co. 4. BREED CLASSIFICATION: will be at the judge s discretion. 5. ELIGIBILITY OF EXHIBITORS Public School: Each Junior Exhibitor must be a member of the Johnston County 4-H and/or a member of their respective school s FFA chapter in Johnston County.4-H Members must be enrolled and dues paid by Dec. 1. of the current show season. Youth may enroll in 4-H on September 1st if they are 8 AND in the 3rd grade. If they turn 8 after September 1 and are in 3rd grade, they will not be eligible to enroll in 4-H. Junior Exhibitors cannot be enrolled in a school outside of Johnston County unless home schooled. Members must not have graduated from high school or the equivalent before January 1, of the show year. ELIGIBILITY OF EXHIBITORS Home Schooled: Exhibitors that are home schooled must be a member of the Johnston County 4H and cannot have reached the requirements for graduation by January 1 of the show year. Members must be enrolled in 4-H and dues paid by Dec. 1. of the current show season. The JCJLAB fully supports and abides by the disciplinary standards within the Johnston County Public Schools. Any exhibitor deemed to be ineligible by his/her school system is also ineligible for JCJLAB sponsored events. The ineligibility is extended to the exhibitor s livestock.

3 JCJLAB 3 6. ELIGIBILITY OF ANIMALS: All animals must have been continuously owned and fed personally by the exhibitor from time of entry which will be the second Thursday in December. Check in is at the Johnston County Fairbarn at 3:30pm. All Animals entered into the Johnston County Junior Livestock Show will be subject to periodic observations at the place or facilities that the animal resides by either the exhibitor s local Ag teacher or the OSU Extension Agriculture Agent ( for 4-H exhibitors). Animals must reside at the exhibitor s place of residence or the appropriate school farm. An exception for housing may be obtained with prior approval from the JCJLAB. This exception must state the location for housing the animal and the reason. Exception form(s) will be available from the JCJLAB and must be turned in before check-in at the designated check-in location. If an exhibitor has filled out an alternative housing form, then the exhibitor and a parent must present that form for approval to the JCJLAB Board Members at 6:00pm (check-in for animals closes at 3:30pm) on the second Thursday in December at the Johnston County Fairbarn. Failure to get the Alternative Housing Form approved will make those animals ineligible to show. All Swine must have an 840 EID tag at the time of check-in. Any animal that has been sold in any premium auction sale prior to this show is INELIGIBLE to be exhibited in this show. Only animals entered by the second Thursday in December by 3:30pm are eligible to be exhibited in this show 7. ARRIVAL OF ANIMALS AND TIME OF ENTRIES: All livestock to be exhibited must be in place not later than the specified time set in the program schedule and will not be removed from the premises. Exhibitors are expected to have animals ready for entry and weighing at the specified time set in the program schedule. Animals may be disqualified if not promptly presented. 8. SHOWING: Exhibitors will be expected to accompany all livestock to the show and sale ring, except in the case of illness or some other unavoidable reason. In these cases, special permission must be obtained in writing from the Advisory Board before the time scheduled in the program for judging. In such an event the substitute showman must be from Johnston County. The judging will be set forth in the program schedule. Any notice of change in the judging schedule will be announced over the public address system. Any exhibitor not present PROMPTLY on schedule will be ruled out and barred from competition. No complaint or protest on the grounds that the judge did not see the exhibit will be considered. THE DECISION OF THE JUDGE IS FINAL. An exhibitor may elect not to bring a third animal of a species if that exhibitor has 2 animals of that species already to make the premium sale. Parents, friends, or relatives will not be allowed to assist the exhibitors in the show ring. County Extension Agents and Vocational Agriculture teachers will be permitted to assist the exhibitors in getting animals lined up but must stand back when the judge begins to work, or the animal may be disqualified from competition.

4 JCJLAB 4 Persons other than the exhibitor will be excluded from the show ring while the judge is in the process of placing a class. If the judge determines that an animal is too unruly to be shown with the class, the animal may be disqualified from the show. Any animal physically unable to continue with the show may be dismissed at the judge s discretion and the next animal in the preliminary sale line-up will be brought to the show ring. Maximum Number of entries a child can show- Each eligible exhibitor may show a maximum of the following: No more than a total of 6 animals 3 Steer 3 Heifers 3 Market Wether Goats 3 Doe Kids 3 Barrows 3 Gilts 3 Market Lambs 3 Hair Sheep 9. STALLS AND PENS: Exhibitors are requested to pick up entry cards. Each exhibitor is to furnish his/her own bedding. GROOMING CHUTES AND LAMB/GOAT TABLES will not be allowed in any alley and they must be situated as to not interfere with the operation of the show or the duties of the Advisory Board or other officials. 10. DRESS CODE: Dress code will be enforced in the show ring and in the premium sale. Those not in compliance with the dress code will not be eligible for the premium sale. 3 rd Grade exhibitors that have not reached the age of 9 on January 1: White collared shirt with sleeves 4-H Member: An official 4-H vest, jacket, or pullover wind jacket. Must be of the appropriate colors of solid green, solid white, or a mix of green and white. Must have an official 4-H emblem of at least 2½ inches that is permanently affixed to the front and left side of the vest or jacket. Must wear a collared shirt under the vest or either jacket that is the appropriate colors of solid green, solid white, or a mix of green and white. 4-H Member: A buttoned up, collared shirt or polo shirt, short or long sleeve, of the appropriate 4-H colors of solid green, solid white, or a mix of green and white. No third color mix or additional colors are allowed. Must have an official 4-H emblem of at least 2½ inches that is permanently affixed to the front and left side of the shirt. FFA Member: An official FFA corduroy jacket, pullover wind jacket or soft-shell jacket. A pullover wind jacket or soft-shell jacket must be of the appropriate colors of solid blue, solid yellow, or a mix of blue and yellow. Must have an official FFA emblem of at least 2½ inches that is permanently affixed to the front and left side of the pullover wind jacket. Exhibitors must wear a collared shirt under either jacket that is of the appropriate colors of solid white, solid blue, solid yellow, or a mix of blue and yellow.

5 JCJLAB 5 FFA Member: A buttoned up, collared shirt or polo shirt, short or long sleeve, of the appropriate FFA colors of solid white, solid blue, solid yellow, or a mix of blue and yellow. No third color mix or additional colors are allowed. Must have an official FFA emblem of at least 2½ inches that is permanently affixed to the front and left side of the shirt. 11. HEALTH AND CLEANLINES: All animals must be free of any infections, communicable or contagious disease. If such a disease is found, it will be cause for removal from the show facilities. Animals must conform to all State/Federal animal health laws. All swine must test negative for pseudorabies/brucellosis after December 1st and have proof thereof. Exhibitors are expected to keep aisles clean and to keep areas around pens and stalls clean at all times. Show officials will request areas to be cleaned up when needed. NO DOGS will be allowed in the show facility at any time. 12. ACCEPTING ENTRIES: The final decision as to whether an applicant is entitled to enter and show livestock rests entirely with the Advisory Board. 13. LIABILITY: All exhibits will be under the control and direction of the Johnston County Junior Livestock Advisory Board, but the Johnston County Junior Livestock Advisory Board, Johnston County Fair Board, and Johnston County Commissioners will in no case be responsible for any loss or damage that may occur. Each exhibitor will be solely responsible for any consequential or other loss, injury, or damage done to or occasioned by, or arising from any animal or article exhibited by him or her. He or she shall indemnify and save harmless the show and all of its sponsors and assisting organizations, their employees and agents, against all legal or other proceeding in regard thereto, as well as damage or injury to any person or property, caused by the exhibitors or any of the animals exhibited by him or her, or arising out of, or in any way connected with such exhibit or any of the animals so exhibited. 14. PREMIUM SALE: No more than 2 animals per exhibitor can be in the premium sale, Except for the Master Showman Winner. All exhibitors that have more than 2 animals in the premium sale and all alternates must meet in the show area with the show officials immediately after all judging is over. The exhibitors must know what animals they will sell for premium and what animals they will drop from the sale. THE EXHIBITOR MAY NOT MAKE THE SALE IF HE OR SHE IS NOT PRESENT, except by majority vote of the Livestock Advisory Board and Chairman. The Master Showman will have the 1 st spot in the premium sale. PREMIUM SALE DISTRIBUTION: 20 Steers; 75% or maximum of 7 Heifers; 36 Barrows; 75% or maximum of 7 Gilts; 75% or maximum of 12 lambs; 6 wether goats, and 6 doe goats will make the premium sale. 1 Hair Sheep may be eligible for the premium sale if 4 or more Hair Sheep are shown. DETERMINATION OF SALE ORDER to be posted at the beginning of the show. PREMIUM SALE CHECKS WILL BE ISSUED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AFTER THE PREMIUM SALE.

6 JCJLAB CODE OF ETHICS FOR EXHIBITORS, PARENTS AND SPONSORS: (the following practices are NOT considered ethical) a. Misrepresenting the age or breed of the animal for the class in which it is shown b. Treating or massaging any part of the body internally or externally with an irritant, counterirritant, or other substance to temporarily straighten a weak back or loin or produce unnatural animation. c. Minimizing the effect of cramps by feeding or injecting drugs or depressants or applying packs or using any artificial contrivance or therapeutic treatment except normal exercise. d. Striking the animal to cause swelling in a depressed area. e. Surgery of any kind performed to change the natural contour or appearance of the animal s body with the exception of routine veterinary practices (dehorning, tail docking, castration, repair of injuries). f. Insertion of foreign material under the skin. g. The use of alcoholic beverages in the feed or administered as a drench. h. Criticizing or interfering with the judge or other exhibitors while in the show ring or other conduct detrimental to the show. 16. VIOLATIONS OF RULES AND REGULATIONS: Any violation of these rules, regulations, or code of ethics by the exhibitor or any individual will automatically disqualify the exhibitor and the livestock involved. Any exhibitor found violating these rules might be disqualified from any future shows sponsored by the Johnston County Junior Livestock Advisory Board. Any premium money awarded must be refunded if an exhibitor is found in violation of the rules. 17. PROTESTS: Any protest must be made in writing and signed either 1 hour before or no later than 1 hour after each species show according to the Chairman watch (but not during the show) to the Johnston County Junior Livestock Association Show Directors and must be accompanied by a fee of $ cash. 18. Household Nominations Exhibitors will be allowed to enter and show any animal that was nominated by an individual from their household according to the following restrictions: 1. The exhibitors must all legally reside in the same household and share the same legal address. 2. The exhibitor who is entering the animal must have materially participated in the care of the project. 3. Regarding student eligibility, if an exhibitor is declared ineligible, any animal entered in that exhibitor s name shall be ineligible for exhibition at the 2019 Johnston County Livestock Show. Household nominations will NOT apply to registered heifer or purebred gilts. Heifer and purebred gilts must be entered in the name of the exhibitor that is on the official breed registration papers and that is the only person that will be able to exhibit that animal at the Johnston County Junior Livestock Show.

7 JCJLAB 7 STEER SHOW REGULATIONS 1. Any steer exhibited in the 2018 Spring Show is not eligible to show in the 2019 show. 2. The steer show will be a Blow and Show, adhesives and/or paint will not be allowed. 3. False hair will not be permitted. 4. No artificial fill (no substances pumped into cattle, orally or rectally). 5. Minimum weight class for steers is 1,000 pounds. 6. Classes for steers will be established after all steers have been weighed. Classes will be broken up by weight only. There will be no breed classification. 7. All steers are eligible to show for premium sale order. The show judge will place 18 steers plus alternates for sale order after the selection of Grand and Reserve Grand steers for a total of 20 steers. Grand and Reserve Grand are automatically in the premium sale. 8. All steers will remain on display until sale order has been made. HEIFER SHOW REGULATIONS 1. All heifer calves must have been born after January 1, The heifer show will be a Blow and Show, adhesives and/or paint will not be allowed 3. False hair will not be permitted. 4. No artificial fill (no substances pumped into cattle, orally or rectally). 5. All heifers must have been registered in the name of the junior exhibitor. 6. Registration papers (must be original copy) shall be brought with the heifer during weighin (check-in) during the county show. If registration papers are not available at this time, the heifer will show as a commercial heifer. 7. Heifers will be broken into classes by breed and birthdates after check-in for the show. 8. Commercial Heifers will show by weight. 9. Heifers will show for Breed and Reserve Breed Champion, and Grand and Reserve Grand Champion. All heifers are eligible to show for premium sale order. Grand and Reserve Grand Champion heifers are automatically in the premium sale. After the selection of Grand and Reserve, the judge will select 5 sale slots and 2 alternates for a total of 7 head and 2 alternates. 10. All heifers will remain on display until sale order has been made.

8 JCJLAB 8 WETHER SHOW REGULATIONS 1. Minimum weight for market lambs is 90 pounds. There is no maximum weight. 2. Wether lambs will show in breed classes. Breeds will be divided into weight classes after show weigh-in. One lamb in a particular breed constitutes a breed. 3. Grand and Reserve Grand Wether will sell in the premium sale. After they are selected the judge will do a preliminary line up of remaining wether lambs. The Wether Lambs will then compete against the Ewe Lambs for the remaining 8 spots for the premium sale. The judge will also select alternates. 4. All wether lambs will remain on display until sale order has been made. C OMMERCIAL BREEDING EWE REGULATIONS 1. Minimum weight for ewe lambs is 90 pounds. There is no maximum weight. 2. Ewe lambs will show in breed classes. Breeds will be divided into weight classes after show weigh-in. One lamb in a particular breed constitutes a breed. 3. Grand and Reserve Grand Ewe will sell in the premium sale. After they are selected the judge will do a preliminary line up of remaining ewe lambs. The Ewe Lambs will then compete against the Wether Lambs for the remaining 8 spots for the premium sale. The judge will also select alternates. 4. All Ewe lambs will remain on display until sale order has been made. HAIR SHEEP BREED REGULATIONS 1. Both wether and ewe Hair Sheep must be shown as a market Hair Sheep. 2. Minimum weight for market lambs is 50 pounds. There is no maximum weight. 3. Hair Sheep will be divided into weight classes after show weigh-in. 4. If less than 4 Hair Sheep are exhibited then they will show as a market lamb and follow the rules and premium sale requirements as a market lamb. 5. If 4 hair sheep are exhibited, they will show as market lambs and an additional premium sale slot will be added to the market lambs. This will make for 13 lambs sold in premium sale. 6. If 5 or more Hair Sheep are exhibited, then the Champion Hair Sheep will automatically make the premium sale and the remaining Hair Sheep will compete in the Market Lamb Show for the remaining premium sale line-up. This is an additional slot in the premium sale and shall not take away from the 12 market lamb slots. This will make for 13 lambs sold in premium sale, as long as 5 Hair Sheep are exhibited. 7. All Hair Sheep will remain on display until sale order has been made.

9 1. Minimum weight is 50 pounds. JCJLAB 9 DOE SHOW REGULATIONS 2. Dehorning of does is not suggested; however, horns should be tipped and rounded to a safe diameter. 3. Artificial coloring, paint, hair, and powder are not permitted. 4. Shearing will be left up to the exhibitor s discretion. 5. There is no tooth rule 6. Doe goats will be able to choose whether they show as a (Doe) or they can choose to show them in the (Market Goat) show. They may not show them in both shows. They will select which show to be in at the weigh in. 7. The judge will place 4 doe goats plus a few alternates after the selection of Grand and Reserve Grand Champion Doe for a total of 6 doe goats plus alternates. Grand Champion Doe and Reserve Grand Champion Doe are automatically in the premium sale. 8. All does will remain on display until sale order has been made. 1. Minimum weight is 50 pounds. MARKET (GOAT) SHOW REGULATIONS 2. Dehorning of wethers is not suggested; however, horns should be tipped and rounded to a safe diameter. 3. Artificial coloring, paint, hair, and powder are not permitted. 4. Shearing will be left up to the exhibitor s discretion. 5. Doe goats will be able to choose whether they show as a (Doe) or they can choose to show them in the (Market Goat) show. They may not show them in both shows. They will select which show to be in at the weigh in. 6. The judge will place 4 wether goats plus a few alternates after the selection of Grand and Reserve Grand Champion Wether for a total of 6 wether goats plus alternates. Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Wether Goat are automatically in the premium sale. 7. All wethers will remain on display until sale order has been made MARKET BARROW SHOW REGULATIONS 1. No gilts will be eligible to show in the market barrow class. 2. Barrows must weigh between 200 and 290. Any barrow not weighing between 200 and 290 will be placed in either a light or heavy participation class and will neither be eligible to show for Grand or Reserve Grand Champion Barrow nor be eligible for the premium sale line-up. Any exhibitor with a barrow in the light or heavy participation class(es) and not having another animal in the premium sale will be added to the list of Exhibitors Not Making the Premium Sale.

10 JCJLAB Barrows will show by breed and weight if there are 3 or more in that breed. If not, they will show as AOB. All Breed Champions will automatically make the premium sale. Barrows will be divided into weight classes after show weigh-in. There must be at least 3 in the AOB breed for that champion to automatically make the premium sale. 4. The judge will place 36 barrows plus alternates for sale order. After the selection of Grand and Reserve Grand Champion, and Bronze Medallion the remaining qualified Breed Champions will be placed in order by the judge for sale order. The remaining barrows will then be placed for sale order. 5. All barrows will remain on display until sale order has been made. GILT SHOW REGULATIONS 1. All gilts must show in their respective breeds according to registration papers (registration papers must be original copy). Registered gilts must be born after Aug. 1 and before Oct.15 of the year prior to the show year and will be shown by age. 2. Registration papers shall be brought with the gilt during weigh-in (check-in) during the county show. Registration Papers have to be in the exhibitors name and ear notches must match registration papers. If registration papers are not available at this time, the gilt will show as commercial gilt. 3. Commercial gilts will be divided into weight classes after show weigh-in, with a minimum weight of 200lbs. and maximum weight of 325lbs. 4. All Breed Champions will show for Grand and Reserve Grand Champion. 5. Grand and Reserve Grand Champion will sell in the premium sale. After they are picked, the judge will pick 5 more gilts for sale order plus alternates as determined for a total of 7 gilts plus alternates. 6. All gilts will remain on display until sale order has been made. SHOWMANSHIP 1. Exhibitors will be judged on their ability to show, personal appearance, enthusiasm, courtesy, and sportsmanship. Showman must wear official dress according to Dress Code stated in Rule There will be 3 age divisions. The Junior Division will be for exhibitors who are 12 and younger. The Intermediate Division will be for exhibitors between the ages of 13 to 15. The Senior Division will be for exhibitors between the ages of 16 to 18. Age classifications will be divided into Beef, Swine, Goat and Sheep Showmanship. 3. There will be a Champion and a Reserve Champion selected from each division. The Champion from each division will represent the county at the OK Youth Expo in Oklahoma City. If the Champion is unable to attend or represent the county, then the Reserve Champion will represent the county. 4. The exhibitor must show his/her own animal. 5. We will have a Master Showmanship Contest the evening after the Hog Show. More news on this contest will follow.

11 JCJLAB 11 MASTER SHOWMANSHIP CONTEST 1. The Grand and Reserve Showman from each species of livestock in the Intermediate and Senior Divisions will compete in the Master Showmanship Contest. These Exhibitors will compete each showing each species of livestock to compete for an overall Master Showman. 2. The winner of the Master Showmanship will receive a belt buckle. They will also have the 1 st spot to sell in the premium sale. If the Master Showman selected already has 2 animals in the premium sale, this will add them a 3 rd spot in the sale. If the exhibitor did not make the premium sale this will add them a spot in the sale. It is at the exhibitor s discretion whether or not they bring an animal into the ring at sale time of the Master Showman. LIVESTOCK JUDGING CONTEST 1. This contest is open to all students that are eligible to show in the livestock show. The contest will consist of placing several classes of animals. 2. There will be 2 age divisions. The Junior Division will be for exhibitors who are enrolled in the eighth grade and under. The Senior Division will be for exhibitors enrolled in the ninth through twelfth grade. A junior contestant may be on a team with seniors to fill out a team, but a senior may not move down to fill out a team of juniors. 3. There will be a reasons class. FITTING CONTEST Contest rules will follow OYE fitting contest rules.
