1 Talking Terriers President s Message: New England Terrier Club Inside this Issue President s Message Calendar of Events Earthdog Match Report Annual Winter Match Flyer Brags Play Pen Welcome to the New Year!!! We have been very busy. The club hosted the Healthy, Happy Dog Seminar on September 8 th. which was very much enjoyed by all attendees, both human & canine. Thanks so much to Anne Pelletier for organizing this event. We also held an AKC A Earhdog Match on October 13 th at Carleen Farrington s home in Raynham, MA. This was very well attended and was a great success! Thanks so much to our judges, Kristen Thomas, Ann Schliemann, and Katie Heikkila and special thank you to Carleen Farrington for hosting the match. Many thanks are also due to Craig Huntress who built the sturdy den liners that were used at the match. The BEST news about the match was that I heard from the AKC that we are now approved to hold official AKC Earthdog Trials! These would be trials were real title could be earned!!! 3 A K C Earthdog A Match NETC s first A: level Earthdog Match was held at the home of Carleen Farrington in Raynham, MA on October 13, The day started out sunny but very cold and all who attended appreciated the Hot coffee and hot mulled cider that was ready for them when they arrived. The match was very well attended with 21 members and 14 non-members present and the atmosphere was warm and friendly even though the weather was chilly. The competition began with the Senior Level judged by Katie Heikkila. 6 dogs completed at the Senior Level and 3 dogs received qualifying scores: Smooth Fox Ch Glencoe s Gone to Ground SE, ownerdby Mary Smith Parson Russell Ch. Witsend Sweet William SE, owned by Ann Schliemann. Wire Fox Ch. Hiwire Act of Hexham, owned by Lucia Hackett. Junior Earthdog was judged by Ann Schliemann and had 11 entries. Qualifying scores were earned by: Welsh- Bremadog Hail Storm, owned by Joyce Cookman Lakeland-Oliver Winston, owned by Philip Lemieux & Jose Benavidez Wire Fox- Ch. Hiwire Act of Hexham, owned by Lucia Hackett A lunch break followed the completion of the judging of the Junior entries and we all enjoy a sumptuous feast. Our pot luck lunch was fabulous with many hot dishes which warmed us all up. We even had a deep fried Turkey! YUM!!! Kristen Thomas, judged Intro to Quarry, which had 26 entries. There were 4 qualifying runs: Welsh- Bermadog Hail Storm, owned by Joyce Cookman Lakeland-Oliver Winston, owned by Philip Lemieux & Jose Benavidez Smooth Foxes-Ch Glencoe s Gone to Ground SE & Ch Decorum I See Quissex ME, both owned by Mary Smith. The breakdown of breeds entered was: AUSTRALIAN -2; BORDER -2; CAIRN-1; LAKELAND-2; NORWICH-1; PARSON-4; RUSSELL-2; SILKY-1; SCOTTIE-2; SMOOTH DACHUSHUND-2; SMOOTH FOX-4; WESTIE-2; WIRE FOX-1. The match report was submitted to the AKC following the event and I just received word that the NETC is now approved to hold titling Earthdog Trials. A wonderful ending to a wonderful ending to a wonderful event!!
