Rentals can be booked Monday through Sunday afternoon by calling (515) with at least 2 weeks advance notice. It is open weekdays from 12 pm-8 pm, Saturdays 11 am-5 pm, Sundays from 1-5 pm. **Reminder children under the age of 8 must be directly supervised by someone 14 years or older at all times paying daily fee, using their membership card or using a scan card. 5 Parks and Shelters 2018 Wiese Park Wiese Park is adjacent to the McCreary Community Building and was completed in the 1990s. It features a shelter house and gazebo, a nine-hole disc golf course, playground equipment, a lighted two-mile recreation trail, lighted regulation basketball court, soccer fields, and sand volleyball courts. Restrooms are available seasonally. Alcohol permits are available to be purchased with an extra $25 fee with at least 2 week notice. Photo ID required and must be able to pass a background check, no children present. Shelters are available to be rented April 1 September 30. Wiese Park Large Shelter Pattee Park Pattee Park, located at West 3rd Street and Willis Avenue, is Perry s largest park. It features three softball and four baseball fields, sand volleyball court, the City Band Shell, skateboard park, tennis courts, horseshoe pits, playground equipment, the Perry Dog Park and three shelter houses. 6 Parks and Shelters 2018 Dog Park/Permits Bring your favorite canines and let them run freely in an environment that is safe and rewarding for all. If you are traveling with a dog, stop by and watch the fun. The five-plus acre park is fenced and divided into two sections, an area for smaller dogs and one for large dogs. Double gates enable you to move in and out of the park without risk of your canine friend s escape. The park features several permanent benches, a two-level water fountain (one for dogs and one for adults) and three pieces of dog-inspired playground equipment. The fountains are available on a seasonal basis. Daily passes are available at the McCreary Community Building which is open seven days a week. When purchasing an annual or daily pass permit for the dog park, it is required that you present proof of current rabies vaccination. No children under the age of 14 years will be allowed in the fenced dog area, and no one under 18 will be permitted to escort a dog into the park. Your dog must be 6 months of age or older to be in the dog park. Permit s per household First Dog $20 Second Dog $10 Third Dog $10 Daily $2 Perkins Park Perkins Park, located at West 5th and Dewey Avenue in Perry, is divided by a berm that was once a raised railroad bed. On the west side is the Hiawatha Bike Trail, natural prairie lands and interpretive signs. The east side contains the youth soccer fields and new playground equipment donated by the city of Dawson. Restrooms available during soccer season only. Caboose Park Caboose Park is the Perry trailhead to the Raccoon River Valley Recreation Trail. Located across the street from the Welcome Depot, at the intersection of First Avenue (Highway 144) and Willis Avenue, the park continues to evolve and grow to serve the needs of visitors and residents alike. 4
7 Parks and Shelters Perry Off-Leash Dog Park Permit *All dogs using Perry Dog Park located in Pattee Park must have a permit tag and must be six months old. *Permits are valid from January to December each year. To obtain this permit, you will need the following: 1. This completed application. Read and sign the Release of Liability on the back of this form (Page 2). 2. Perry residents need proof of a dog license. Licenses are obtained at the McCreary Community Building. 3. Proof of rabies vaccination from your veterinarian. 4. Payment for the total amount due for this permit. 8 Parks and Shelters 2018 Risk and Release of Liability Acceptance of the terms and conditions of this release and adherence of dog park rules are conditions of participating in the City of Perry s Dog Park approval, retention, and renewal. Tag(s) may be removed for noncompliance. I hereby acknowledge that I have voluntarily applied to participate and use, with my dog (s), designated dog park areas in parks operated by City of Perry. I understand that unleashing my dog and being physically present at a dog park area involves risks of injury to me, any individuals accompanying me, other people, my dog(s) and other dog(s), including but not limited to, risks resulting from aggressive dogs, unpredictable behavior, and lack of training. I further understand and assume that despite the efforts of the City of Perry to ensure owners have complied, there is a risk that not all dogs present in the dog park are licensed and vaccinated for rabies as required by which could result in injury to a human or dog. Additional risks include, but are not limited to: dog fights; dog bites; theft or unlawful capture; escape over and under fences; vegetation or standing water that may be unhealthy or poisonous if consumed; burrs or seeds that may become lodged in the dogs coat, feet, eyes, nose, or ears; mosquitoes; ticks; chiggers; fleas and other insects; and wildlife typically found in a park such as snakes, raccoons, opossums, ect. It is my understanding that use of the dog park is self-directed and not directly supervised by an agent or employee of the City of Perry. I assume all risks associated with using the dog park, including fixtures and equipment, in an unsupervised and self-directed manner. By signing this release, I agree to indemnify and hold harmless the City of Perry, its agents, officers, and employees and assigns from and against all loss, cost, damages, expense, and liability resulting from my use of the dog park, including death, sickness, injury, and disease to any person or dog, or destruction to property, real or personal, arising directly from my use of the dog park. 9 Recreation Trails 2018 Hiawatha Bike Trail This includes all of the City of Perry s in town trails. Over the years, the city has been working on making trail connections around town to schools, parks, city buildings, businesses and health care facilities. Raccoon River Valley Trail The Raccoon River Valley Trail is an 89-mile long multi-use recreational trail that extends from Clive, in the Des Moines metropolitan area, to Jefferson. The trail is built on the former Chicago Northwestern Railroad right-of-way now owned by Dallas, Guthrie, and Greene County Conservation Boards. The trail winds its way through the Middle and North Raccoon River corridors showcasing three counties and sixteen communities. The addition of the 33-mile North Loop in 2013 has created the 77-mile. This loop connects to the Des Moines metro, when expanded our recreation trails plan to connect Perry with other communities along the multi-county Raccoon River Valley trail system. 7
10 Aquatic Programs 2018 Red Cross Swimming Lessons The American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program teaches aquatic and safety skills in a logical progression. The objective is to teach children to swim and be safe in, on and around the water. This level is taught in the deep end. Level 5 Stroke development, perfect the strokes taught in other levels, butterfly, endurance building. Level 6 Fitness swimming, strengthening strokes and learning how to use this skill for fun and fitness. Locker Keys Check out locker keys at the front desk prior to lesson time. MCB members, small locker free, large locker 25. Nonmember s small locker 25 and large locker 50. Please do not leave bags and other personal items unattended in the locker rooms. First day of class Come a few minutes early. Your child needs to be in their suit ready to go. On the first day of class, the instructor will meet their class in the lobby in front of the windows. After the first day, students will meet their instructor on the pool deck in their area no more than five minutes before the start of class. Progress Reports Will be given to students at the end of the session. Skills mastered and skills needing improvement will be listed. A portion of the swim lesson fee goes to the American Red Cross for Authorized Provider s.
11 Aquatic Programs 2018 Lap Swimming and Water Walking Lap swimming and water walking are activities to encourage individuals to swim/walk regularly. Water walking is increasingly popular due to the low impact on the joints, perfect for sore knees and weak leg muscles. The light resistance that the water offers helps to increase your leg strength. The goal is to improve long-term physical fitness. Awards are given to the swimmer and water walker of the month and year. This class is similar to preschool level with one exception; the parents get to join in the fun. 6 months to 3 years. Water Fitness This class is an excellent cardiovascular activity where the participant is exercising to music against the slight resistance of the water. These exercises will improve flexibility, strength, and coordination all without stress to bones and joints. No swimming skills are required since all activity takes place in chest deep water. This class is offered to adult (18-61 years ), senior (62 years & up)member and non-members. Continuous sessions, daily fees available for water fitness classes. Here is a program designed for parents and their children. The shallow end of the pool is open to parents and their children at the following times. Under 6 free with parent. Open Swim What would a pool be without some time for kids to come and leisure swim? Open swim is the time. During open swim kids and adults alike can come and swim, play basketball, go off the diving board and have fun. The class covers CPR, First Aid, and lifeguard skills. Must have five enrolled to hold the class. If you become a lifeguard and work for the MCB for more than 6 months, you will receive full reimbursement of the class fee. Must be able to swim 300 yards continuously using the front crawl and breaststroke strokes. 13 Aquatic Programs 2018 Perry Summer Swim Team The Perry Summer Swim Team is a competitive swim program for individuals 6 to 18 years of age. Swim Team practices every day during the week and has competitive swim meets on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Swim Team members must be able to swim the length of the pool unassisted. The season will run from May 29th till July 13th. Perry High School Swim Team The first practice for the Perry High School Swim Team will be August 6, Four lanes and the diving board will be closed during practice times. 14 Youth Programs 2018 Youth Cheerleading Youth cheerleading is back for another exciting season! This program is offered to children in grade K-6th. Participants learn basic cheers and moves which will be performed on Thursday evenings at the Youth Flag Football games. Practices will be scheduled on Wednesdays, after school is dismissed. Practices will begin prior to the start of the football season. Location Deadline K-6th grade Thursday-Game night; Wednesday-Practice after school is dismissed September 13th- October 18th 5:30pm-6:30pm Wiese park $15 members, $30 non-members Monday August 27th by 8am Youth Volleyball Camp This youth volleyball camp teaches participants the fundamentals, skills, and strategies involved with the game of volleyball while enforcing good teamwork and sportsmanship habits. High school players (if available) will help the players work on their bumping, setting, and serving. 15 Youth Programs 2018 Kids Day at the Dallas County Fair Join the Dallas County Parks & Recreation Departments as we host a kids day in conjunction with 4-H Clover Kids and Dallas County Fair. We will be serving up all kinds of fun including a bubble gum blowing contest and a pie eating contest. Come check out how fun it is to be a Park and Rec kid at the Dallas County Fair! Day All Thursday Date July 12 Location 3-4pm Center Dallas County Fair Grounds, Adel Bike to School Week With May being Bike Month, we challenge the Perry Elementary children to bike to school! Bike to school at least 4 days and receive a FREE PIZZA PARTY after the parade on Friday, May 4th. s Monday-Friday April 30th May 4th FREE Flag Football: 4th-6th Grade Perry Parks & Recreation Department is excited to offer 4th-6th grade flag football! During this league participants will learn the fundamentals and skills of football. Practices will be scheduled by coaches, with games being played on Tuesday evenings. Equipment was purchased by funds from the Bock Family Foundation. Tot Gym will be held at the McCreary Community Building on Monday and Thursday mornings. Kids under the age of 1 are free. 16 Adult Programs 2018 Men s 3-on-3 Basketball League Games will be played half court at the Perry High School gym and players are in charge of calling their own fouls. The season will be played in a round-robin format. Three games are played to 15 points. 17 Senior Programs 2018 Congregate Meals Seniors will have an opportunity to eat lunch at the McCreary Community Building Senior Room. The Congregate Meals will be held on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Fridays. The meals will be served at 11:30am. Reservations deadline is the day before the meal by 12pm. For more information call (515) Location Summer MCB, Perry Ongoing, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday June, July, August M-F 11:30am Wednesday Fellowship Come and enjoy the company of others, a free interesting program and a good, hot, homemade meal. Reservation cancellations by those on the permanent list must call in by noon on Monday. Inquire about reservations for walk-in spots by noon on Tuesday. Call the McCreary Center at (515) to make or change a reservation. The free program is for individuals of any age. The meal is for individuals 55 years and older. If Perry Community Schools are cancelled due to weather the Wednesday Fellowship program is cancelled. 18 Fitness Programs 2018 Yoga/Pilates Class B The Perry Parks and Recreation Department is excited about an all new Yoga/Pilates instructor. Pilates blends body awareness, breathing, and elongation of the spine with strengthening of core muscles. Enjoy our aerobics room that includes padded floor, fitness balls and BOSU balls. You know those spinning bikes you see when you come to the McCreary Building? We are now doing a spin class! Our fitness instructor Lisa Gukeisen-Thielen will be teaching these classes. There will be two ways to spin. You can sign up for our monthly classes on Tuesday and Thursday mornings or come to our weekly Saturday morning class. 19 Fitness Programs 2018 Tae Kwon Do Tae Kwon Do classes are taught in a traditional Korean form which dates back thousands of years. In class, students will learn a multitude of self-defense movements and wrist locks, which increase at each level. Students will learn proper kicking techniques as well as punching, while keeping body posture and balance. During class, students will go through an aerobic as well as an anaerobic exercise. Tae Kwon Do is beneficial to all age levels and will improve self-esteem and confidence. She will be working on helping you reach your fitness goals with interval training synced with motivating music. This class is offered on Tuesday & Thursday evenings at 6pm. Pool schedule and rules are available upon request. Anyone under the age of 18 years must be accompanied by a parent/coach to use the sauna or whirlpool. Children under the age of 5 years old are not allowed in the hot tub or sauna at any time. Temperatures of and over are harmful to children. Children under the age of 8 years must be supervised by someone 14 years or older. Swim diapers are required and can be purchased at the front desk for $1.25. 21 s and Guidelines 2018 The Perry Parks and Recreation Department is committed to compliance with the American Disabilities Act (ADA), which prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability. The Perry Parks and Recreation Department will make every effort to make accommodations in facility/programs to enable participation by individuals with disabilities. s (all fees are subject to change) Daily s Daily fees are good for the entire day. Children five years and under are free and those 8 years and under must be directly supervised by someone 14 years or older paying daily fees, using the membership card or using a scan card. Scan Pass Scan passes are $45 and are available to everyone. It allows an adult 10 admissions and youth or senior adult 20 visits. There is no expiration date on the passes and they will not be replaced if lost. Ten visit youth or senior visit passes are $22.50 Groups Groups, including churches, scouts, school and civic organizations are invited to use the building at a reduced rate. To receive this group rate, arrangements must be made at least 24 hours prior to your visit. Medical Pass Bring a written prescription from your physician or physician therapist and receive a one-month, nonrenewable pass for $ When your medical pass expires convert to a membership without paying the $29.95 registration fee. Memberships A membership to the McCreary Community Building entitles a person to use the facility and receive reduce prices on most activities. College students 18 & up are included on a family membership with verification of current full-time college enrollment. New members pay a one-time $29.95 registration fee. Membership Types- Adult Age 18 or over Adult Couple Both over age of 18 and living in the same household Single Parent Family Age 18 or over and family with only one parent in the household Senior Adult Age 62 or older Senior Couple At least one spouse must be 62 or older Check-o-matic New members must pay the registration fee and first month s payment at the time of registration. Withdrawals will start coming out of your account the following month. Current check-o-matic members do not need to reapply. Written requests are required to cancel a check-o-matic contract by the first of the month. Once stopped by a patron, a check-o-matic membership can only be reinstated after review by the Perry Parks and Recreation Department staff and payment of $29.95 registration fee. Accounts that were stopped for insufficient funds or closed bank accounts are not eligible for reinstatement. A voided check or other documentation from your bank is required to complete your contract to start your membership. 19
