Behind it is another big cage, the hippos are in that - they have a pool to swim in. Paul: What animals are in the smaller cages? Stuart: Well, near the hippos in the corner is a small cage with a pool - can you see it? Paul: Yes. Stuart: The dolphins live in that. Next to them is the fox. Paul: Only one fox? Stuart: Yes. Then there are the pelicans; they live between the monkeys and the fox. The monkeys have a bigger cage, they need room to climb. Paul: I see. The pelicans have the fox on one side and the monkeys on the other. What about the cages near the entrance? Stuart: Well, on one side of the entrance are three cages and on the other side - two. Right? Paul: Right. Stuart: Well, in the two cages are giraffes and zebras. Paul: Which is which? Stuart: The giraffes are nearer to the entrance. On the other side of the entrance are the pandas. Then there s an empty cage, then the camels. Paul: The empty cage is between the pandas and the camels. Stuart: That s right. Paul: There are three more cages you haven t told me about. Stuart: Oh yes, well, the big cage near the camels has llamas in it. Behind them is a smaller cage with a tiger. The smallest cage in the corner is empty at the moment. 7 Discussion Work in groups. Discuss how one should take care of one s dog. To own a dog How to be the perfect owner Owning a dog can provide hours of enjoyment. You can have fun walking, feeding and grooming your dog. But to be the perfect dog owner, there are a few things to consider. Many years ago, some wolves actually became tame and settled with humans. Wolves are the distant relatives of all breeds of dogs. As your dog s owner, you are now the leader of the pack. When choosing a dog, think about how much food, exercise and training he will need. Puppies are lovable and cute, but an adult dog can be just as much fun! dogs need lots of space to run around in, but a smaller dog would be quite content in a smaller environment - provided you take him for walks. Look after your dog and in return he will love you. Your dog will become your best friend and will protect you and your home from other dogs and strangers. Some dogs are bred for special tasks such as hunting, herding or guarding. Sheep lost travellers in the snow. Before you bring your new dog home, you will need a few things: water bowl, food bowl, collar, leash, dog tags. explore every room. Make sure you are prepared for your new friend and he will soon settle in. Danger! Dogs, especially puppies, can be very mischievous and will chew anything. Keep dangerous items such as electrical wires and cleaning supplies out of reach. Just as you need a warm bed at night, your dog will need a warm place to sleep. If you don t have a dog basket, you can make a cosy bed from a large cardboard box and a blanket. keep him in one room so that he can get used to the chewy toy, fresh food and water, and a comfy for your dog to go to the toilet. Before letting your dog out into the yard, make sure that the gate is locked and that there are no holes in the fence through which he can get out. Attach a dog tag with his name and your telephone number to his collar, in case he gets lost. 69

8 Reading God made all things good Did you see something very wonderful today? If you really looked around, you must have seen something wonderful. There are many, many wonderful things all around us. The big round world that we live in is wonderful, the big blue sky over our heads is wonderful. Sometimes white clouds sail in the blue sky, like pretty ships. The clouds are wonderful, too. They are made of tiny drops of water that sail in the wind. At night the beautiful stars sparkle high above us - thousands and thousands of them. are all kinds of ants that build anthills or make homes deep under the ground. There are furry animals that live in the woods, rabbits and wonderful nests. Oh, the world is a wonderful place! Where did the world, and all these wonderful things, come from? We know where they came from. We have learned from the Bible that God made all things. He made them long ago, in the beginning. Before that beginning, long ago, there was no sky. There was no There were no people. But God was there. He is the I AM, you know. He has always been. And one day He began to make the wonderful things we see. First God made the heavens, the sky that is above us and the big round world we live on. But the sky was dark. The world was all dark, too. Then God said: Let there be light! And there was light. God is light. He made light in the world so that we could know Him, and so that we could see and enjoy the beautiful things He was going to make. He made the oceans and lakes and rivers. He sent some of the water up in the sky, to be clouds. He made little birds and big elephants. He just spoke a word, and there they were! And everything He made was very good. God is almighty! 70
