3 The Humane Society of Greater Miami has been helping the homeless and abandoned animals in Miami-Dade County since We are dedicated to placing every cat and dog in our care into a loving home, and to promoting responsible pet ownership and spay/neuter programs. Today, an average of 400 dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens are cared for each day at our Soffer and Fine Adoption Center in North Miami Beach and through our foster program. All the animals in our care are free from the threat of euthanasia, due to time, space or treatable medical issues for as long as it takes to find them a loving and forever home. Who we are In a nutshell more than 3,300 animals were placed in homes in We have two low-cost, preventative care veterinary clinics, one in North Miami Beach and one in Cutler Bay. 16,000 spay/neuter surgeries performed this year. Humane Education program encourages more than 9,000 participants to be kind to animals. Our Pet Therapy program services hospitals, ALF s and court houses throughout Miami-Dade. Foster Care finds loving temporary homes for animals too young or in need of special care. The Humane Society of Greater Miami is a not-for-profit charitable animal welfare organization supported solely by donations, private grants and fundraising events. 15 FAQ Frequently Asked Questions Can we still be a Pack if we don t reach the $1,000 or $500 minimum? $1,000 is the minimum for a Big Dog Pack and $500 for a Kids Pup Pack to receive the Pack perks such as Pack photo, Pack sign(s), T-shirts, goody bags and prize eligibility. If you cannot raise the Pack minimum you can still participate as an individual. Apply each $50 raised to register an individual walker. When can I distribute Pack goodies to my group? Your Pack Leader will pick up your goodies at the Soffer and Fine Adoption Center either on Thursday, February 22nd or Friday, February 23rd. To allow time for you to deliver the goodies to your Pack team we suggest hosting a pre- Walk meeting or party. This will also build enthusiasm for the event. What if my Pack members keep collecting money after the registration deadline? After the money due date of February 21 st, members can submit additional forms and monies on the day of the Walk. Submit any additional monies collected on the day of the Walk at the Pack Registration tent. How do we raise the $1,000 or $500 minimum? Ask the places you frequent for a donation - such as your hair stylist, dry cleaner, doctor, dentist, gym, coffee shop, favorite restaurant, etc. Throw a bake sale, movie night, or dance party to raise awareness and garner donations. Campaign door to door, if your neighborhood allows. Bring in snacks to the office. Your co-workers can have some if they donate to your Walk efforts. Host a chili cook off, baked potato party, or guacamole sale. You can sell tickets for $5 each for a vote for the best item and raise funds for the Walk at the same time! Food is a great way to raise funds, especially with hungry co-workers. Rummage Sales Ask your team members to clean out their closets and garages and bring items for a team wide sale. Auction off a prime parking space at work! Change Jars Keep change/donation jars in high traffic areas at work. Hang Walk for the Animals posters in your office which are available for pick up at the Humane Society of Greater Miami. 14
