LaCross Chief of Police July 2, 2012 TO: Council President June Speakman and Members of the Barrington Town Council REF: Highlights of the Barrington Police Department for the Month of June Uniform Patrol and Detective Activity During the month of June, Department members arrested a total of 50 individuals, 13 were juveniles. Patrols issued a total of 135 motor vehicle citations and 444 warnings during routine traffic enforcement efforts and by participating in the Click It or Ticket and Speed Deterrence state funded programs. Department members also investigated a total of 32 accidents. Noteworthy Arrests During the month of June, 3 individuals where arrested for Drunk Driving by Patrolmen Mike Gregorek (2), and Casey Larson with (1). All three individuals arrested were from Warren and East Providence. Sgts. Tim Harrington, Kevin Igoe, and Gino Caputo, along with Patrolmen Gregg Koutros, Anthony DeCristoforo, Chris Aylward, John Sgagliardich, Mark Haddigan, Josh Melo, and Casey Larson were involved in the arrest of 10 individuals for possessing alcohol under the age of 21 as the result of several party investigations and different motor vehicle stops. Community Relations During the month of June, patrol officers logged 81 different Community Policing/Relations efforts throughout the town. These contacts include speaking to business employees/owners in the Barrington Shopping Center, checking different marinas, speaking to walkers on the East Bay Bike Path, Veteran s Park, stopping by our school basketball courts and playgrounds. Cub Scout and Brownie Troop tours at the Police Station usually occur twice a month. Some officers have allowed children to view their police cars and use the lights and siren as we strive to enhance better Police relations with our community.

2 Page 2 of 7 Det. Lt. Dino DeCrescenzo provided to Mr. David Renner of the Assumption Church in Providence several old seized bicycles which were left abandoned in Barrington and went unclaimed. St Luke s Church is also earmarked to receive several seized bikes to give away as needed.

Ben Ferreira and Officer Timothy Oser attended the Blood Stain Pattern Analysis course at the Rhode Island State Crime Lab at URI Kingston the week of June 4, The course was sponsored by the RI State Crime Lab. Officer Tony DeCristoforo and Michael Gregorzek attended SFST Refresher training at the RI Dept. of Health. The course was 3 days and sponsored by the RI Dept. of Health. Retired Officer William Dorney attended Work Zone Safety training at the RI Municipal Police Academy on June 6, This course is required for those working traffic details. Juvenile Hearing Board The Juvenile Hearing Board (JHB) met on June 4th, The board heard 2 cases related to the willful trespass into Hampden Meadows School through an open rear door. LaCross Barrington Public Safety Building 100 Federal Road Barrington, RI After 30 years of loyal service to the citizens of Barrington, ACO John Duffy retired from the department on June 22, John ran a very successful P.A.L. program for our Barrington youth and coordinated the Annual Family gatherings at the High School with live music and fireworks. For two years John hosted, through PAL funding, a Carnival which the kids all enjoyed. John worked most of his career as a Dispatcher and spent the last five years as the ACO. As a TEAM Player for the department, John handled multiple tasks in addition to his ACO duties which included working on the police cars, running tasks for the Town Hall Clerks and procuring two military Humvee surplus vehicles and various equipment for the department at no cost to our tax payers. John also located a used military 2006 Ford 350 pick-up truck for the DPW. John s upbeat attitude and Go-To character will be missed by all Department Record s Clerk Patricia Watson assumed the position of ACO on July 1, Over the period of 05/01/12 to 05/31/12 the Animal Control Division handled the following calls for service. 4 dead animal were removed from public roadways 4 Formal Incident reports were taken or followed up on by Animal Control OF Wound of unknown origin (closed) Dog Bite (closed) Dog Bite (closed) OF Animal Cruelty (closed) OF Deceased Cat (closed) OF Dog Bite (open) OF Dog Bite (closed) One sick stray dog found on North Lake Dr. transported to Warren Animal Hospital for treatment and was later adopted by rescue group. One stray injured cat was picked up on Great Rd. and transported to Warren Animal Hospital and later released to owner. 1 Verbal issued Meadow Circle for barking dog and unlicensed. 1 Verbal issued Barrington Center for dogs locked in vehicle with windows closed. 1 Verbal issued Barrington Beach for dog on beach

Officer Oser responded to Agawam Rd. for a loose dog, owner located and given verbal warning. Officer Viveiros responded to Glen Ave. for found dog. Lt. DeCrescenzo handled a dog bite, report filed. Officer Sgagliardich responded to Chianese field for a dog defecating on tennis courts. Officer DeCristoforo responded to North Lake Dr. for a found dog, owner located. Officer Oser responded to Old Chimney Rd. for a found dog, owner located. Officer Allen responded to Blanding Ave. for a sick raccoon. Special Interest: With the good weather upon us I have begun to monitor the Barrington Beach, local parks and ball fields. I am preparing to have a vicious dog hearing regarding incident OF In total animal control division received 63 general calls for service during the month of May.
