A special entry deadline (on or before 2/21/14) has been made to accommodate contestants wishing to be eligible to earn points in the Rally portion of this event. As contestants travel from one location to the other, and while they are trialing, there will be articles, things to do and other assorted things that will earn points. They may be as random as the color of your car or something you must find and hand to the Rally coordinator, Elsie Rhodes, to receive credit. Points will be tallied each day. The prize money will be awarded on Sunday following class awards. 4 PackLeader Farm - March 14, 2014 Herding Ranch Dog Trial (HRD) GENERAL RULES: Time: HRD I & II 15 minutes HRDIII 20 minutes. All elements must be attempted prior to moving on. Tie breakers, in order, will be exercise 6. Small Pens, exercise 3. Trailer/Stockyard followed by time. STARTING SET-UP: All gates must be returned to the starting positions. 30 sheep in Arena B, 3 sheep in Alley A/B, 5 sheep in Trailer, 5 sheep in Stockyard, 2 sets of 5 sheep in Alley C/D, 6 sets of 5 sheep in Reserve. 1. GATHER 20 pts.: Time begins when the dog is sent. Gather sheep, move the sheep through Obstacle 1 and proceed to Pen 3. Exercise ends when the sheep reach the Pen 3 gate. HRDI Dog is approx. halfway to sheep s position, Handler may move within 15 feet of sheep. HRDII Dog is left at the Handler s Post, Handler may move ½ way. HRDIII Handler remains at the Post until the sheep have cleared Obstacle SORT 20 pts.: Exercise begins when the sheep reach the Pen 3 gate. Sort 3 sheep from group using any combination of gates associated with Pen 3. Move sorted sheep to a vacant pen in Alley A/B. Remove other 3 sheep from occupied pen and release them into Arena B. Exercise ends when the Arena B gate is closed. HRDI Sort any 3 sheep with gold collars. HRDII Sort any 3 sheep with colored (non-gold) collars. HRDIII Sort 3 sheep with assigned color collars. 3. TRAILER & STOCKYARD 15 pts.: Exercise begins when Arena B gate is closed. In any order gather 5 sheep from Stockyard and remove 5 sheep from Trailer: Combine sheep and move them through the Footbath Alley and into the Back Alley. Exercise ends when gate between back alley and Pen 3 is closed. HRDI Handler may remove sheep from Trailer or enter Trailer and Stockyard to assist dog. HRDII Handler may enter Trailer to assist dog but remains in Alley during the Stockyard gather. HRDIII Handler remains in the Footbath Alley while the dog does the work. 4. FETCH/DRIVE 15 pts.: Exercise begins when gate between back alley and Pen 3 is closed. Fetch/Drive sheep down Back Alley to the marker post and back to Pen 2. Exercise ends when the sheep are penned in Pen 2 with handler and dog inside Pen 2 without disturbing the sheep. HRDI Handler may move anywhere. HRDII Handler remains in the narrow Alley until sheep have passed Pen 2. HRDIII Handler remains in the narrow Alley/Pen 2 while the dog drives the sheep. 5. HRDIII ONLY OBSTACLE 2 10 pts.: Exercise begins when the gate to Arena A is opened. Move sheep from Pen 2 into Arena A. Dog will cover the sheep while the Handler closes the gate. Move sheep through Obstacle 2 and return to Pen 2 gate. Exercise ends when the sheep are penned in Pen 2 with handler and dog inside Pen 2 without disturbing the sheep. 6. SMALL PENS 20 pts.: Exercise begins when the gate from Pen 2 to the Narrow Alley is opened. Divide the sheep from Pen 2 into 2 groups of 5 and pen in vacant pens in Alley C/D. Remove 2 sets of 5 sheep, combine, and negotiate the Narrow Alley and Footbath Alley to the Trailer. In any order - pen 5 sheep in the Trailer and 5 sheep in the Stockyard. Exercise ends when the gates to Trailer and Stockyard are closed.

6 Fido s Farm - March 15, 2014 Herding Ranch Dog Trial (HRD) GENERAL RULES: Time: 20 minutes. All elements must be attempted before moving on. All gates must be closed and latched as sheep clear the gate unless otherwise stated. No pre-setting of gates allowed. Dog to hold sheep off all gates. Tie breakers, in order, will be exercise 2. Drive/Wear, exercise 1. Gather followed by time. STARTING SET-UP: 5 sheep in Big Puppy. 5 Sheep in sort yard pen A or D. All gates closed and latched except between Big Puppy, Little Puppy Pens and Obstacle Arena, which will remain open throughout the trial. 1. GATHER 20 pts.: Time starts when handler and dog arrive at gate between Little Puppy Pen and Obstacle Arena. Gather sheep, move into Obstacle Arena. Exercise ends when last sheep has entered Obstacle Arena. HRDI Place dog at the gate between Big and Little Puppy Pens. The handler may move to within 15 feet of the sheep. HRDII Place dog at the gate between Little Puppy Pen and Obstacle Arena, handler may move anywhere in Little Puppy Pen. HRDIII Place the dog at the gate between Little Puppy Pen and Obstacle Arena, handler will remain at the gate until sheep have entered Obstacle arena. 2. DRIVE/WEAR 25 pts.: Exercise begins when the last sheep has entered Obstacle Arena. Drive/Wear sheep to Cone A, then counterclockwise around Panel A, then clockwise around Panel B. Once the sheep pass the end of Panel B this exercise ends. HRDI Handler may walk with sheep throughout. HRDII Handler will remain at the gate until the sheep pass the midpoint of the arena then will move to Cone A, remaining there until completion of the exercise. HRDIII Handler will remain within 10 feet of the Little Puppy/Obstacle Arena fence. 3. FREESTANDING OBSTACLE 15 pts.: Exercise begins when sheep pass the end of Panel B. Move the sheep through the Y Chute. Exercise ends when the last sheep has exited the Y Chute. HRDI Handler may walk with sheep throughout but may not enter the Y Chute. HRDII Handler will remain at the entrance to the Y Chute until sheep exit Y Chute. HRDIII Handler will remain within 10 feet of the Little Puppy/Obstacle Arena fence. 4. HRDIII ONLY SORT 10 pts.: Exercise begins when last sheep exits the Y Chute. Move sheep anywhere in the open area between the Y Chute and the fences. Shed two sheep from the group and show you have control of them. Exercise ends when the Judge calls the shed. 5. TIGHT SPACES & PENWORK 20 pts.: Exercise begins when the last sheep exits Y Chute or at the end of Shed. Move sheep into the Sort Yard. Put sheep into Pen A or D, whichever is empty. Take 5 sheep from other pen, move sheep into Main Alley. When the gate into the Main Alleyway is closed & latched the exercise ends. 6. REPEN 10 pts.: Exercise begins when the gate into the Main Alley is closed and latched. Settle sheep at east end of Main Alley. The dog will hold the sheep at the east end while the handler opens the gate into the footbath. Repen sheep through the Footbath. Time ends when the handler closes the Footbath gate.

8 Frog s Breath Farm - March 16, 2014 Herding Ranch Dog Trial (HRD) GENERAL RULES: Time: 20 minutes. All elements must be attempted prior to moving on. Tie breakers, in order, will be exercise 4. Drive/Wear, exercise 3. Alley & Tight Passages followed by time. STARTING SET-UP: There will be sets of (5) five sheep in the Pens K, J, E and Field 3. Pen I will have (10) ten sheep. All gates will be closed and must be closed at the completion of the run; except the gates around the round pen. 1. SMALL PEN WORK 20 pts.: Time begins when gate to Pen K is opened. Move the sheep from Pen K into Field 5. Move sheep from Pen J into K using the gate between these two pens. This exercise ends when dog and Handler arrive at the gate between Pens J and I. 2. SORT 10 pts.: This exercise begins when the gate into Pen I is opened. Gate sort (5) five marked sheep into Pen J. Remove the sheep from Pen E, using the alleyway put them into Pen I. You may do the sort from either Pen I or J as long as the correct sheep end up in Pen J. The Judge will tell you which sheep you need to put into Pen J. This exercise ends when the gate between Pen J & the alleyway is closed. 3. ALLEY & TIGHT PASSAGES HRDI & II 15 pts. HRDIII 20 pts.: This exercise begins when the gate into Field 3 is closed. Move the sheep from Field 3 into the 12 alleyway, around the Round Pen through Pen F arriving at Pen E. Dog will be called off and will go with Handler to Field 5. This exercise ends when the dog and Handler enter Field 5. HRDI Handler may accompany the sheep throughout. HRDII Handler will go into the Round Pen using the gate off the12 Alleyway and must remain there until the sheep reach Pen E. HRDIII Handler will remain in Field 3 throughout this exercise. 4. DRIVE/WEAR HRDI & II 25 pts. HRDIII 30 pts.: Exercise begins when dog is sent to gather the sheep. Gather the sheep take them around Handler s Post in either direction. Move them past the obstacle on the left side; turn put them through the obstacle. HRDI & II will then move the sheep to the marker post at the other end of the field. HRDIII will turn the sheep as they exit the obstacle to move them through the second part. This exercise ends when the sheep reach the marker post. HRDI Handler may accompany dog and sheep but not enter the obstacle. HRDII Handler may accompany the sheep and dog to the mouth of the obstacle and must remain there while the sheep pass through the obstacle and are moved to the marker post. HRDIII Handler will remain at the Handler s Post throughout the exercise. 5. GATHER 20 pts.: This exercise begins when the Handler calls the dog. Call the dog off the sheep. Send the dog on a Gather. Fetch to the Handler post. Move into Pen 3. The exercise and time end when the gate into Pen 3 is closed. HRDI Handler will leave the dog at the 1/2 way point and may walk to within 15 feet of the sheep. HRDII Dog is left at the Handler s Post, Handler may move ½ way. HRDIII Handler and dog will go to the Handler s Post the dog will be sent from there. The Handler may move once the sheep have reached him at the end of the fetch.
