President Message. Art R It s hard to believe Summer is already here and the year is half gone. Rick and Irene Blacklock graciously hosted our annual picnic on the afternoon of June 11 th at their home in Bonita. Rick and Irene, the food was great and your home was a wonderful place for our gathering, Thank You! July is the WBCCI International Rally in Lewisburg, West Virginia so there is no planed club rally until August. On August 12 and 13 we will be rallying at Silver Strand State Beach. The rally is full but there is room to join us on Saturday at the beach and for the Saturday Evening meal. If you are planning to dine with us on that day, the cost is $15 per person. There is plenty of parking at the State Beach s day parking next to the campground. Day Use parking costs $10. Contact Bri Latif if you would like to join in the fun on Saturday. Looking ahead we will be having a buddy rally at the San Diego KOA in Chula Vista on September 9 and 10. Dan and Marcy Smith will be hosting. That will be followed by a club caravan on September to the Alumafandango in Jackson Rancheria in Jackson, California September Contact Reiko for information. It is also time to begin thinking about getting more involved in supporting our club next year. As I have already announced Inge had to step down from her position as Treasurer for family reasons and this month Reiko has informed me that she will not be able to serve next year as 1 st VP. Kelly Crawford will be putting together our board for 2017, so please consider stepping forward and taking a position on the board. We will need Treasurer, 1 st and 2 nd VPs and two trustees. Please let Kelly and me know if you are willing to help. Our success as a club is the direct outcome of member involvement.

Let the June Picnic begin. A few of our members camped at Sweetwater Park for the weekend of the June Picnic. Selfie time! Lisa, Bobbi, Gigi and Marla Bobby, Marla, Jeff, Gigi (left side) Bri, Lisa and Bruce (right side) Lisa, Bruce, Jeff, Marla, Bobby and Gigi

A Tale of All Tails Beating the heat while dry camping. It was a hot day in October in the beautiful city of Roseville, CA. The temps were in the triple digits and the nights weren't offering any relief from the heat. I was dry camping with our dog Codi, so I packed some vital tools in case I noticed him panting abnormally. Items such as reflective window foil, a 12volt fan and an icebox cooler. I also made sure I prepped some wet towels and placed them in a plastic bag in the fridge to be used as cold compresses, if the need arose. When I arrived at our destination, I immediately tended to the Airstream in an attempt to keep the interior as cool as possible. I had installed the reflective foil on all the windows to help keep the trailer cool while traveling so it was now time to open the windows and get some air moving which also meant turning on the Fantastic fans. Codi usually tolerated the heat better than I do, but I noticed him panting in an effort to cool off.

I had offered him cold water and cold compresses but these didn't seem to provide him much relief from the heat. I can assure you that a dog owners worst nightmare is watching your dog over heat! First they start to pant and then the bottom of their tongue begins to swell in an effort to cool down. You may hear noisy breathing, the dog may be drooling, their gums may be bright blue or bright red and they may experience disorientation, convulsing or vomiting and diarrhea. These are just some of the signs to look for so if you have a dog please investigate the matter further. Noticing that Codi was panting and drooling I went into action. I gathered my 12 volt fan and the ice box and took Codi for a ride to the store to buy ice to make an improvised air conditioner. I purchased a bag of ice cubes for his water bowl and some blocks of ice. I placed the block ice in the cooler and added a little water to help start the cooling off process. I then placed the fan on top of the cooler to allow it to pull air from the cooler and push it out and into the trailer. This instantly provided cool air in the immediate area where Codi was photographed chillin out and relaxing by the air conditioner.

I think it s important to share this story because dogs can die of heat stroke in minutes. And unfortunately, hundreds of dogs DIE of heat stroke each year. Summer is here, which means it going to get HOT. It s common knowledge that dogs shouldn t be left in the car, but what about our Airstreams? If a vehicles temperature increases approximately degrees in half an hour then how high is the temperature in the trailer getting? Unfortunately, I couldn t find an answer to this question on the web, but I do know the aluminum seems to be a magnet for the sun and heats the interior quickly! I know we all LOVE our pets and a lot of them are considered family. So take precautions when traveling and keep in mind that vehicles get hot FAST, the pavement may be HOT and can burn your dogs feet and increase his/her internal body temperature. Pack items to help in the event it is warm and remember if you re HOT the chances are you re dog is probably HOT too! ~Reiko S.

I welcome any comments and suggestions for articles you d like to read. We want to continue making the newsletter informative, entertaining and accurate. So, please feel free to send your suggestions or a story you d like to post. The newsletter would not be great if it isn t for YOU! Thank you for continuing to send pictures of the rally.
