2 Statements & Search Criteria Mission Cat Adoption and Rescue Efforts, Inc. (C.A.R.E.) is an all-volunteer, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the rehabilitation, care and adoption of cats and kittens rescued from euthanizing animal shelters in Richmond, VA and surrounding areas. And, accepts, on a limited basis, animals from alternative sources. We are committed to the highest principles of humane care and obtain professional medical treatment for all animals in our systems. Background Cat Adoption and Rescue Efforts, Inc. was incorporated on September 25, CARE is an all volunteer, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. Our volunteers give their heart and soul to rescuing cat/kittens from euthanizing shelters. All cats/kittens are fostered in the volunteers' homes until they are ready for adoption. They are then taken to Petco every Saturday and or Sunday from 11am to 3pm until a forever home is found for them. Adoptions are also done by appointments pending completion of an online application on Call to arrange an appointment. Impact CARE's TOP FIVE ACCOMPLISHMENTS: 1. Cat Adoption and Rescue Efforts, Inc. has rescued and found forever homes for over 7500 felines since being incorporated in CARE averages saving more than 500 cats and kittens each year. 2. CARE's volunteers have helped relocate more than 300 feral cats whose lives were in danger by providing animal-safe traps and helping with relocation. 3. CARE routinely extends a helping hand to people in our service area who contact us for help with cats in need of costly medical help by providing funds and relocation, if needed, through adoption or listings on our website. 4. We have expanded our mission to accept into our system cats and kittens from other than pounds or shelters. We have taken cats from households where the guardian had become ill, from military personnel on assignment, and from people in need due to the financial crisis. 5. We created the Helping Paws page on our website to highlight pets whose owners cannot keep them or from people who have found abandoned cats and kittens. CARE's TOP FIVE GOALS FOR THE YEAR: 1. Insure financial stability with both short and long term fundraising projects, including grants, newsletter appeals, car donations, and other short term projects. 2.Recruit and train staffing (fosters, volunteers, board members) to support CARE's Board and Programs. 3. Increase community outreach efforts to mitigate unnecessary litters and homelessness of cats and kittens by encouraging adoptions by seniors in retirement communities and by concentrating on removing cats and kittens from an area kill shelter. 4.Increase corporate retail locations and Home Adoption Programs 5.Increase educational efforts to provide information about current animal welfare issues on our social media. Needs CARE'S TOP FIVE PRESSING NEEDS: 1.Donations to cover Veterinarians' expenses: $87,000 a year. 2. Foster Families: People willing to house felines and bring them to the Adoption Centers until they find a furever home. $5,000 to fund foster costs for cat food, litter, toys, beds, etc. 3.Caregiver Volunteers: People willing to socialize cats & kittens and clean cages at Adoption Centers. 4. Supplies: Individual and corporate donations of litter for foster homes, toys and beds for cats at the Adoption Centers and for CARE fosters. 5. Board Recruitment and training: For current and new board members through continuing education classes and /or degree programs at UR and Nonprofit Learning Point. $2,000 2

3 CEO/Executive Director Statement CARE s guiding purpose is to end unnecessary euthanasia in our locality. This goal will be met by removing felines from our local shelters and providing medical care for these felines. We strive to ensure that every feline in our care will be spayed or neutered to prevent more unwanted felines. If possible, we will reunite lost felines with their owners. CARE will conduct adoption programs with the purpose of finding safe permanent homes for the cats and kittens in our foster program. CARE will oppose the sale or donation of any animal for the purpose of experimentation or research. Finally, CARE will conduct educational programs to inform the public about various issues including responsible pet ownership and humane treatment of animals. OUR VISION: By its dedication to the continuous rescue, rehabilitation, care and adoption of cats and kittens, Cat Adoption & Rescue Efforts, Inc. will be distinctive among central Virginia cat rescue associations and known as a stable and reliable animal rescue organization recognized statewide. Increase number of grant applications for board education Successes: Since it was incorporated in 2001, CARE has become a stable and reliable animal rescue organization recognized statewide. We are known throughout the area to our stakeholders (donors, partner vets, volunteers,) as a responsible rescue organization with a good financial record and dedication to our main objective: helping to end unnecessary euthanasia and homelessness for cats and kittens in the greater Richmond area. 5 Programs Programs Adoptions Description C.A.R.E.'s activities and accomplishments were first featured nationwide in the cover story of the June 1, 2003 issue of Parade Magazine, in the July 2003 issue of Cat Fancy Magazine, and most recently in local press (July,2014) highlighting a profile of our youngest volunteer, Kelsey Levine and her mother, Linda, and their work raising kittens for CARE. Highlights of C.A.R.E.'s operations include: rescuing and finding homes for approximately 7041 felines (including the sick, injured, and elderly) from area euthanizing shelters (primarily from Henrico County and the central Virginia area, providing cats with ALL necessary medical care, and fostering them until adoption; operating weekly adoption stands at Short Pump Pet Smart and Staples Mill Petco; assisting Henrico County in realizing the County's goal of replacing gas chamber euthanasia with euthanasia by injection, which most experts agree is far more humane; and continually working with Henrico County Police and Animal Control officials in the greater Central Virginia area to assist with cat and kitten adoptions from their shelters (before euthanasia). Budget $10, Strategy Long term Success Short Term Success Long term goal would be to have no unwanted, abused or homeless animals in Virginia. CARE seeks to be distinctive among animal rescue organizations by dedicating itself to the continuous rescue, rehabilitation, care and adoptions of cats and kittens in the greater Richmond area. Rescue, provide all medical treatment (including spay/neuter, inoculations, and other care in consultation with veterinary specialists)and to find forever homes for these homeless animals. Since it's inception in 2001 CARE has placed approximately 5000 cats and kittens. Animal Welfare /Educational Awareness Description CARE's board members recruit, train and seek to retain caregivers. Their job is to visit the cages twice a day at Adoption Center locations, clean and feed the animals and help socialize them. Often families sign up for this task to help children learn animal care. Sometimes, the courts assign juvenile offenders to these tasks to learn animal awareness and at other times, schools recommend children to learn animal welfare through CARE's Caregiver programs. 6 Helping Our Neighbors Description Since the economic downturn in 2008, CARE has experienced a rising number of callers in distress who cannot afford to treat their animals with needed medicals. We have established a program called "Helping Our Neighbors" designed to offer money to cover needed medicals for these pet owners. We learn of these needs from callers who contact us through our Hotline (804) or from s through our contact information on our webpage. In 2014, we applied for and were awarded a grant to endow the fund with a $5,000 base (making this a permanent program of CARE's) that we will add to with various fund-raising efforts to help those in need who contact us for assistance with paying for needed medicals so they may keep their companion animals. Budget $7, Pet Peace of Mind Partnership Description In 2015, Cat Adoption & Rescue Efforts, Inc. was approached by Bon Secours' Hospice Program to partner with them in a unique program to help place pets in new homes after their owners have passed. The Bon Secours' program helps terminally ill people keep their pets throughout the end of their life journey. CARE then steps in to temporarily house the pet until a new home can be found. CARE will help foster the pet, doing all that our fosters can to help the pet with its own grief over the loss of its owner and home. CARE will advertise the pet on all its social media and in its semi-annual newsletters as well as advertise the pet in newspaper ads, if needed, to fund a new forever home for the pet. This is a unique, groundbreaking national program provided for by the Banfield Charitable Trust through Bon Secours Hospice partnering with Cat Adoption & Rescue Efforts, Inc. to help a segment of the population that is often overlooked--the dying and their pets. At board meetings, goals and objectives are designed and implemented to meet the need selected. Progress is evaluated following the effort and the issue is added/modified in the strategic plan as part of the action plan and resulting planning calendar for the year. CARE is proud to demonstrate that it has strengthened its board development with carefully structured strategic plans, and master planing and fund raising calendars. 8
