4 G. Read the following passage carefully then answer the questions. There was once a farmer who was very wealthy but he was always looking for ways of avoiding paying his workers. At the end of the month he would say that they weren t doing their work well enough so that he wouldn t have to pay them all of their money. (paragraph 1) One day he hired a young man who worked hard throughout the month but when the time came for him to be paid the first wage, the farmer said, Before I pay you, I need you to go to the market and get me some ou and ouch and don t come back until you have some. (paragraph 2) The man smiled because he had a plan and walked briskly down the road. First, he went back to his old mother s cottage and borrowed two large brown jars. Next he went into an old shed where he kept his pets a mouse and a rat. Into one jar he gently put the mouse, into the other he carefully placed the rat and off he went back to the farmer. (paragraph 3) What have you brought? asked the curious farmer. Here is some ou, said the young man taking out the jar with the mouse from the sack. How is this ou? grumbled the grumpy farmer. Open it and you ll see, said the young man. (paragraph 4) And no sooner had the farmer unscrewed the lid than the mouse had leapt up and bit him. Ou!!!! cried out the farmer, Ou!!!! There, you see, said the young man with a laugh, and here is a jar of ouch. All right, all right, said the miser feeling very foolish and he gave all his workers their wages.
