Sock Fish (24 Sock Fish= 3 hrs.) Materials: 8 ½-by-11-inch piece of paper Catnip Sock Felt Non toxic glue Scissors Step 1: Roll an 8 1/2-by-11-inch piece of paper into a cone for a funnel; secure with tape. Step 2: Insert funnel into sock, and fill halfway with catnip. Step 3: Knot sock just above filling. Step 4: Cut out eyes and a mouth from a piece of felt. Step 5: Attach eyes and mouth to sock with nontoxic fabric glue. 3
Catnip Fish Toy (24 Fish Toy= 5 hrs.) Materials: Fish template Fabric Pins Pinking shears Cotton batting or wool scraps Piece of paper Catnip Needle and thread Upholstery needle and thin sturdy twine, for hanging S tep 1: Trace template onto two layers of fabric. Cut out shapes. S tep 2: Pin right sides together, leaving 1/4-inch seam allowance. Sew seam, and leave 1 1/2-inch opening for filling. S tep 3: Trim seams with pinking shears. S tep 4: Turn right side out. Press seams flat. Step 5: Stuff with cotton batting or wool scraps until firm. Shape a piece of paper into a funnel, and use it to add 1 to 2 tablespoons of dried catnip or to fill the whole toy with catnip. Step 6: Hand-stitch opening closed. Step 7: If desired, make fishing line: Thread an upholstery needle with 30 inches of thin sturdy twine, and sew through the seam of the fish's mouth. Tie knot to secure. 4
Feather Cat Toy (24 Feather Toy= 3 hrs.) Materials: Cat toy template Scissors Wool felt Iron Jingle bells Satin cord Step 1: Using templates as guides, cut out one large and one small feather from two pieces of different colored medium-weight wool felt. Step 2: With a hot iron, press a crease down the center of each feather. Step 3: Add a jump ring to a jingle bell. Step 4: Slip end of a 1-yard length of satin cord through jump ring. At bell, tie stems of feathers to cord with a square knot. Knot both ends of cord to prevent fraying 5
Catnip Rat (24 Catnip Rat= 6 hrs.) Materials: Catnip Rat Template Felt Stuffing Rope Catnip Scissors Hot glue gun and hot glue sticks Extra felt (optional for eyes) Step 1: Using the 7 1/2-inch template, cut out the bottom and side pieces of felt, using the circles for ears. Step 2: Glue the top edges of the side pieces to each other. Glue the bottom piece of felt to the bottom of the side pieces. Be sure to leave an opening in the back to insert stuffing. Step 3: For your stuffing, use cotton batting and catnip. Cut a piece of rope for the rat's tail and stuff in the back of the rat. Seal with glue, and glue on the ears. To add eyes, use a marker or felt 6
Cat Playhouse (5 houses = 5 hours) Materials: Door and window templates (optional) 3 same-size sturdy cardboard boxes (we used 12-by-14-by-18-inch boxes from UPS; use larger boxes for a large cat) Pencil Decorating items: yarn, colored pencils, feathers Bone folder Ruler Retractable razor blade or utility knife Hot-glue gun 7
Step 1: Trace door and windows on box with pencil Step 2: Use knife to cut out door and window squares. Step 3: Assemble bottom of the first box (the one with the door): Fold in two opposite flaps, generously coat them with hot glue, then fold the remaining two flaps over them. Hold flaps in place until the glue is set. On the open end of the box, cut the flap off of each long side. Cut off half of the flap from one short side, fold it in. Secure flaps to side of box with a line of hot glue. Hold flaps in place until glue is set. Step 4: Begin making the roof: On the top end of the second box, use a ruler and pencil to draw a line from the top center of one short-side flap to one bottom corner; draw a second line from the top center to the other bottom corner. Repeat on the opposite short-side flap. Cut off one long-side flap, as pictured; set aside. Cut along a penciled line to remove a triangle shape from one short-side flap, as pictured; score the second line. Repeat on second short-side flap, cutting along one line and scoring the other. Step 5: Cut long-side flaps from the bottom of second box. Cut one short-side flap so that when the box is assembled and stacked on the bottom box, the holes will line up. Secure the flaps to the side of the box with a line of hot glue. Hold flaps in place until glue is set. Coat the top of the bottom box with a generous layer of hot glue. Position the bottom of the top box over it, and hold in place until the glue is set. Use one of the reserved short side flaps and coat one side of it with a generous layer of hot glue. Place it, glue-coated-side down, as pictured, on the "floor" of the top box for reinforcement. Step 6: Cut the roof piece (21 1/4-by-46 inches) from third box with a crease down its center when folded short-end to short-end. To attach roof, fold along the scored lines on the short-side flaps at the top of the house. Glue long flap to the folded triangles from the short sides. Generously coat the folded-in pieces with hot glue, and position the roof over them. Hold in place until glue is set. (Don't glue other side of the roof closed. Your cat will enjoy peeking out from under it.) Step 7: Decorate outside of house for some pazazz! Be creative! 8
Reach Box Feeder (7 Box Feeder = 2 hrs.) Shoebox Three or more plastic water or soda bottles (8-ounce to 24-ounce) X-ACTO or utility knife Duct tape or nontoxic glue 1. Clean and sanitize bottles. 2. Cut the tops off the bottles, varying the height at which you make the cuts. 3. Trace around one of the water bottles on the top of the box. Repeat this step on different locations along the box top, doing it once for each bottle. 4. Cut holes in the box top. If you cut the hole slightly smaller than the border you traced, the narrow bands in the bottle will help hold it in place without tape or glue. 5. Set the box with the bottle openings at the top and place food inside each bottle. Your cat will have to reach in to scoop food out. 9
Cat Treat Dispenser (25 treats = 2hr) Egg crate Plastic eggs Glue Gun Treats Catnip and feathers (optional) Step 1:Cut the cups from a cardboard egg crate (plastic & styrofoam melt with the glue gun) and hot glue them to a cardboard square. Step 3: Fill plastic easter eggs with cat treats - sprinkle a little catnip inside or glue a feather on it for added fun!! 10
Cat Scratch Pads (25 scratch pads= 2 hr) Carpet square X-acto knife/box cutting knife Shower hook or plastic ties Step 1: Use an X-acto knife to cut a hole in carpet Step 2: Attach a shower hook to hole and that s all! 11
Water Bottle Crinkle Toy (25 toys=2hr.) Socks Empty Plastic Bottles with plastic labels & lids removed Decorating materials Step 1: Be sure label from plastic bottle has been removed. 13 PVC Treat Stick (5 pipes=3 hours) PVC piping with cap that can be unscrewed Drill Yummy Treats Step 1: Clean and sanitize pipe. Step 2: Drill a few holes in the sides of the pipe that is large enough for dog s food to pass through. Step 3: Stuff with tasty treats or dry kibble. Step 4: Screw lid 13
Treat Braids (25 braids = 2hrs) Fleece, Cotton, or Old T-shirts Yummy treats Step 1: Cut 3-4 inch wide strips out of fleece or cotton and use a regular plait braid to braid in a variety of yummy treats. Step 2: Try to tuck in the treats as best you can so that the dog has to work at getting them out of the braid. ** For TRIPLE hours follow NO treats required 14
Decorated Rice Socks (25 socks = 2 hrs) Tube Socks Markers Rice Paper Directions : Step 1: Decorate tube socks with markers. Be creative and colorful! Your socks help keep dog and cats recovering from surgery warm. Step 2: Fill sock with rice. Roll an 8 1/2-by-11-inch piece of paper into a cone for a funnel. Insert funnel into sock and pour rice. Amount of rice can vary as socks will be used for small and large animals. Step 3: Tie a knot at the end of the sock. 15
Bottles Of Fun (25 bottles= 1hrs.) Step 1: Basically make a cookie sandwich with filling in the middle. Any size milk bones work well Step 2: Please freeze 18
Brown Bag Lunch/Treats (25 bags= 1hr) Brown paper bags Dog Food (wet and dry) Treats Peanut Butter Step 1: In bowl, add combination of dry dog food, can dog food, peanut butter, or treats and mix it until it is evenly mixed. Step 2: Take about a cup of the mixture and place it into the brown paper lunch bag. Do not overfill bag. This is a treat not a meal. Step 3: Roll the top of the brown bag down. Remember that kibble tends to soak up liquid. Step 3: FREEZE Step 4: Pop out of container and serve! Extra fun tip : If you d like to hang these treats on the kennels - take a strip of sheet and tie a knot at the end of the strip. Then place the knot end of the sheet strip into the container. Please note that the Sheet can be replaced with a rope. 21
Box O Fun (10 boxes= 1.5hr) Empty box Treats/goodies (Kongs filled with peanut butter, canned cheese, dog treats/food, toys, rawhides, etc) Filler (shredded paper, crumpled paper, sheets, towels, etc) Step 1: Place treats/goodies inside box.
