2 Reynald was busy with the birds! There were real chore hunters like Vaillant Michel Grégoire s dog No need to beg him, even with the scorching heat! There were also many observers encouraging the hunt. Jacques Desroche s protégé gave us a very good performance! Whoa I found one! Get this over and then time for a coffee break or may I say a water break and a cool bath!

3 Great shot! This one will end up in the Couscous stew! Well done! And we take good care of him! Reynald is very proud of Caleb s accomplishment. Who does all the work? Come-on who? Caleb of course! Security is Key; Farid the proud hunter always carries his gun with broken action and empty chambers.

5 Caleb patiently waiting his turn! A small group that looked pretty satisfied of their day it s good to see some future hunters in the forefront! We also had a few visitors from Ontario and the Maritimes who came to familiarize themselves with the work of our dogs. It was a relaxing day without competition or pressure, friendliness and fun for all! 6 . We would like to take this opportunity bring up an important point on the color of our Brittany Spaniels. As you may already know, the Brittany spaniel may come in different colors. However it is governed by an international morphological standard, we must inform you of the steps that have been taken to address a fairly new phenomenon. It took a few years and serious genetic studies to be able to understand the origin of this defect. Here is a text I reproduced from the website of the Club de L Épagneul Breton de France which will help to clarify the situation. Coats not allowed in the standard leading to the refusal of confirmation. CEB decided in January 2009 not to accept the confirmation of dogs that are orange, white and black (or brown) that yet meet the criteria to have three colors. Why? This is for ease of reference we use the term "Tri-colored" to define dogs with three colors on their coat. The official terminology used by the CSC mentions dogs "black (or brown) with Fawn markings freckled on white. In reality, this should be expressed in genetic codes, but it is extremely daunting and even incomprehensible to most fans of the race. That the term "tricolor" covers, as defined in the standard Brittany Spaniel is: "Also with Fawn markings (tawny orange to dark); the muzzle, lips, above the eyes and limbs, chest and below the attachment of the tail in tri-color." Subjects now refused for confirmation present orange and white coats ("Fawn and White") with more or less extensive areas of black or brown hairs on the body, limb, or ears. This is very different from what is contained in the standard, and the proper term which applies is "Carbonized fawn". Note that we cannot find any reference to this type of coat in old books, and we can think and hope that it has been introduced relatively recently and unexpectedly. However, no date had been set for these subjects in three colors but not standard.

7 Judges and experts somehow consciously and sincerely, without clear instructions from the Club about it, especially since it took that progress in understanding the genetic transmission of coats, can understand the "mechanism" involved. It is only very recently that this has resulted. It has now been shown that the gene that causes the coat "fawn" can only be worn by the subjects orange and white, black and white, brown and white. And can in no case be expressed in the offspring of two parents first generation orange and white. Like many "points of non-confirmation" defined by the breed standard, the presence of this gene is not visible in subjects with orange and white coats or black and white or brown and white and olny their offspring betrays its presence. What must be the breeder who sees these puppies "fawn" appear in a litter? The attitude to take is exactly the same as he would in finding an abnormality in the teeth or testicles of the puppies, a "ear in white", or other, with the important advantage of the ability to detect the "anomaly "almost from birth. Each one determines then, according to their own breeding ethics. 10 Carbonized or mutant coat. If we are not careful, we might think that a dog is brown and white colored, when in fact, it is indeed a charred fawn. We must be vigilant because we also have this phenomenon. Here also in Quebec, recently, there have been announcements of puppies for sale coming from charred fawn brood stock. Should we say lack of information or sheer carelessness?

11 The Brittany spaniel is a gun dog having a morphological standard and work held by the Club de L Épagneul Breton de France and the Fédération cynophilique internationale. The Club de l Épagneul Breton du Québec accedes and tries to inform as many people as possible regarding this matter. If we do not pay attention to this phenomenon, we risk serious trouble in breeding both professional and amateur. It is therefore important before breeding your dog to properly identify the color. If you are not sure you can do it, you can always ask for help from the Club de l Épagneul Breton du Québec, we are in constant cooperation with the CEB France that can help us in most cases. The CEB France has already ruled on this color and has excluded from the standard and prohibits confirmation of dogs wearing it. It is the same for The United States Brittany Spaniel Club. Here in Quebec we must take a decision on this matter; however, we are linked to our CKC who registers our dogs that ignoring these problems related to breed standards. We will no doubt have to campaign to inform and request that measures be taken to forewarn breeders and potential buyers. As a breed Club, we have a duty to inform people as possible on Breeding and buying a quality dog produced by people who take the Brittany Spaniel seriously. Too many people are unfortunately breeding dogs who have good hunting qualities, but without any concern for the standard.
