6 GENERAL GUIDELINES ON ENTERING SHOWS Full Details of exhibiting at GCCF Shows are given in the GCCF Rules Section 4, available on the GCCF website under About GCCF and Forms and Downloads at or can be purchased for a small charge post free by telephoning the GCCF Office. The Following provides some additional explanation. Where possible, always complete your show entry form using details from your GCCF Registration Certificate for the cat that is to be exhibited. Please print the details carefully to avoid any misinterpretation of your handwriting. If the Registration Certificate you have does not show your name and address this means that the cat is not registered in your name and you must transfer the cat into your name no later than **10 days before the show. Transfer can be done instantly using GCCF Online Services at If you have not received your Registration Certificate at the time of entry, complete the show entry form with the details from the pedigree, giving the first choice of name if it is a non-prefix registration, and put RAF (Registration Applied For) or TAF (Transfer Applied For), or both, in the Regd. No. box. It is wise to enclose a stamped self-addressed acknowledgement postcard with all registration and transfer applications, particularly for cats entered for shows, so that you know that the application has been received by the GCCF. It is recommended that you keep a copy of your entry form then, when you receive registration details and number, check these against the entry form and notify the Show Manager in writing of any differences in the details as well as giving the registration number, if applicable. This may not be in time for the printing of the show catalogue, but the Show Manager should attach your letter to your entry form which will save unnecessary notification of discrepancies when that show is checked. All catalogue errors are checked against the original entry form and any exhibitors letters are used for reference. Show managements are permitted to accept corrections, at their own discretion, up to the close of the show (on show day). Any such correction must not be an addition or substitution of any exhibit for which proof of entry cannot be validated, or a change of exhibitor/owner. If you are entering several cats from your household and the registered owners (exhibitors) differ within that household/family, check with the Show Manager whether using one entry form is acceptable or not and, if it is, indicate very clearly which exhibitor owns which cat, ensuring all owners sign the entry form. It may be less confusing and more acceptable to the Show Manager for each owner to use separate entry form, but joint owners of an exhibit should always use the same form and **at least one of the owners has signed the declaration. Exhibitors are reminded that the decisions of the judges are final. Any attempt to influence such decisions, or to identify a cat or ownership of a cat to a judge at a show before that judge s engagement has been completed, may render the offender liable to disciplinary action. IF THERE IS A MISTAKE ON YOUR ENTRY WHAT TO EXPECT Minor Errors Should a small error be made these will be resolved between Exhibitor, Show manager and/or GCCF. Persistent repetition may result in further action being taken. Incorrect Date of Birth This is usually classed as a minor error unless it affects an entry into classes based on age groups, when it could warrant disqualification of the exhibit from such classes; but if the incorrect date of birth affects the age suitability as a whole, then the exhibit will be disqualified from the show. N.B. AGE LIMITS: Kittens not less than 14 weeks and under 9 calendar months on date of show Adults not less than 9 calendar months on date of show Incorrect Name of Exhibit/Owner If registration/transfer details were obviously available at the time of entry or before the date of the show, disqualification is inevitable. The following discrepancies are those which usually arise: EXHIBIT Totally incorrect name OWNER/EXHIBITOR } Declaration not signed by at least one of the registered owner(s) 4

7 N.B. The exhibitor(s) must be the registered owner(s) of the cat and not necessarily the person who actually takes the cat to the show. Registration/Transfer Not Received by the GCCF **10 Days before the Date of the Show These entries will be disqualified. Remember, the effective date of all registrations and transfers is the first date of valid receipt by the GCCF. Transfer of Exhibit from Exhibitor to a New Owner Received by the GCCF More Than **10 Days before the Date of the Show Entries such as these will also be disqualified as the exhibitor s entry form becomes invalid. Incorrect or Ineligibility of Class Entry These will be disqualified from the class concerned so always check with the Show Manager if in doubt about which class to enter. If a breed number is changed officially, it is important that you notify the Show Manager immediately. Exhibits entered in the Grand, Imperial Grand or Olympian class must have qualified on or before the published closing date of the show which will include any extension published on the GCCF Website (amended ) and the title must have been claimed in writing by that date. Exhibitors who enter Grand, Imperial Grand or Olympian classes without claiming the title will be reminded once, but if the title remains unclaimed the cat will be disqualified from this class at subsequent shows. Cats Registered on the Reference Register Most cats registered on this Reference Register (CSREF) are not eligible to be shown and, therefore, these entries could be disqualified. One exception to this is when a new breed becomes recognised, and then cats of the breed may be shown, even if they were originally registered on the Reference Register as long as this was the only reason for the Reference registration. Exhibitors may appeal against any disqualification resulting from show checking, giving their reasons. The appeal will be referred to the GCCF Board if considered valid and, if not, a letter of explanation will be sent to the exhibitor(s). The above advice, however, is aimed at keeping your show entries troublefree. ON ARRIVAL AT THE SHOW Exhibits will be received at the entrance of the Show hall from 7:45am until 9.45am on the morning of the show. All exhibits must be brought to the show in boxes, baskets or suitable containers and must be accompanied by their owner or representative. Each exhibit will be examined by the Honorary Veterinary Surgeons, who are authorised to exclude any exhibit they consider unfit. No exhibit may be penned before being examined. Exhibitors passes will be issued at vetting in. All exhibits must be vaccinated against Feline Infectious Enteritis, FVR and FCV (Cat Flu), not less than seven days prior to the show in accordance with Section 4 Rule 4f (effective 1/6/98). The full course, in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations must have been completed for more than 7 days prior to the show. It is not acceptable for breeders to vaccinate their show cats. Only vaccination certificates signed by Veterinary Surgeons are considered valid for this show. Exhibits without valid certificates will be rejected under Section A of the GCCF Rejection Form. Please note that HOMEOPATHIC VACCINATION cannot be accepted. Exhibits must have clean ears and coats free from pests. No exhibit that has been declawed will be accepted. Cryptorchids and Monorchids over 9 months of age will be rejected. Queens who are pregnant, lactating OR WHO HAVE KITTENED WITHIN THE PAST 12 WEEKS will be rejected. Unfit exhibits must be removed by their owners and payment forfeited. If in the Veterinary Surgeon s opinion it is desirable, all other exhibits from the same cattery and the owners thereof shall be debarred from attending the show. The veterinary surgeon s decision is final Where an exhibit has been rejected or disqualified by a Veterinary Surgeon, the Show Manager s shall obtain the reasons and accordingly notify the GCCF within 48 hours of the show, ensuring that a copy of the rejection form is forwarded to the exhibitors concerned. 5

8 The procedure for veterinary clearance is clearly stated in the GCCF Show Rules. However, exhibitors whose cats have been rejected at shows should note the following points: a) When sending a Clearance Certificate to the GCCF Veterinary Officer please include your copy of the rejection slip. b) Do not send certificates by recorded delivery as this can cause delays in receipt. If acknowledgement of receipt is required, please enclose a stamped addressed postcard for signature acknowledging receipt. c) Exhibitors should not attend shows until they have received a letter accepting and confirming clearance from the Veterinary Officer. PRESENTATION AND BENCHING OF EXHIBITS Take pride in presenting your exhibit, be sure it is comfortable, warm and relaxed. Exhibitors must provide each exhibit with a clean white blanket or blankets, (plain woven not cellular) of reasonable size to lie on (white vetbed or like material with white or green backing may be used if preferred), a white food bowl and food, a white water bowl with fresh water and a white sanitary tray, with the exhibits usual litter. All show equipment can be purchased at the show. Food containers must be removed from the pen before judging commences at 10.00am and can be returned after 1.00pm. Water must be left in the pen for the duration of the show. Hot water bottles or heat reflecting materials are the only heating devices allowed and must be concealed by the blanket. None of the equipment in competition pens must bear any distinguishing marks. No written or printed matter of any kind, other than official notices and award cards may be put onto competitive pens, except with the permission of the Show Managers. For Sale notices are not allowed. The use of grooming aids in the Show Hall, other than the use of a clean brush and comb or cloth is prohibited. No powder or grooming substance may be left in the coat of exhibits. Exhibitors are reminded that using shampoos that change the colour of the cat leads to disqualification. These preparations are on open sale, often by stall holders, but we advise most strongly against their use. Exhibits received into the Show Hall cannot be removed, without the permission of the Show Managers, prior to the closure of the Show. Failure to observe this rule will lead to disqualification and forfeiture of any prize money and awards won. The Show closes at 5.00pm or earlier at the Show Managers discretion. Sprays of any kind are not allowed in the Show Hall. No Stud advertisement, written or printed matter of any kind other than the official award cards may be put on pens. No exhibitor may remove an official notice from a cats pen. Exhibits are only received on condition that the Club shall not be responsible for any loss or damage to cats, boxes, baskets or any other property or in any other way. The clipping of the tips of Show Cats claws is considered desirable. The Committee reserve to themselves the right to:- a) Publish a Catalogue of the Show containing information as to the exhibits and the names and addresses of the exhibitors. b) Appoint other Judges should those advertised be unable to fulfil their engagement and to appoint further Judges if deemed necessary. c) Fix and limit the number of exhibits at the Show and refuse entry without giving a reason. d) Cancel, amalgamate or divide classes. e) Disqualify cats entered in the wrong classes by the exhibitor. f) Retain a percentage of the entry fees to cover essential expenses, in the event of the Show being cancelled for any reason. g) Announcement on GCCF website of any alterations or additions made to this schedule or in these regulations shall be deemed sufficient notice. WITHDRAWALS AND REFUNDS Entry fees less administration costs will be refunded for entries withdrawn in writing before the published closing date. After the closing date in the event of a cat being unable to attend due to illness, provided a Vets certificate is received by Show Management at least 7 days before the Show, a refund of 50% of the entry fee (excluding benching fee) may be made. All refunds will be posted after the Show. No other refunds will be given. The last date of withdrawal of a cat from a show is the advertised closing date for entries at that show, after that date the cats concerned may not be withdrawn from the catalogue of the show and the 13 day rule about entering two shows within 13 days will apply. 6

9 GENERAL NOTES FOR THE GUIDANCE OF EXHIBITORS a) If your exhibit is rejected by the examining Veterinary Surgeon or Veterinarian before or during a show, the GCCF will require you to produce a Veterinary Certificate of freedom from infection as indicated on page 3 before being permitted to attend or exhibit at any further show. This certificate must be dated not less than seven days after the show at which the exhibit(s) was/were rejected and submitted to the GCCF with all relevant details. b) Evasion or breach of any of the GCCF rules, or the articles of its constitution may and often will, lead to disciplinary action and you are to familiarise yourself with all sections of the rules and with the constitution. These are obtainable from the GCCF Secretary. c) Except where the context demands otherwise the word cat in these rules includes Kittens and Neuters. A kitten is defined as a young cat under nine calendar months of age. Thus a kitten born on 12 th January becomes a cat (adult) on the following 12 th October. No kitten shall be exhibited under the age of 14 weeks. d) No kitten shall be exhibited under the age of 14 weeks. e) Any cat or kitten which in the opinion of the Judge is very under-developed or in poor condition shall be disqualified from competition. The Show Manager must withdraw the cat from the Show and shall inform the owner of the cat that a biting/scratching certificate will be issued and a copy will be sent to the Secretary of the GCCF. If the cat was defending itself in exceptional and frightening circumstances, that information should be given to the Secretary of the GCCF for consideration by the Executive Committee. If the cat is reported at any subsequent Show, it shall be disqualified from all future shows unless the Executive Committee rule otherwise. f) Exhibitors/Owners are responsible for the cost of any veterinary treatment that may be required by their cat(s) in their absence from the Show Hall. g) Photographs of any exhibit may only be taken after permission has been obtained from the Show Managers and the exhibits owner(s). h) The hall is accessible for handicapped persons. i) STRESS REMEDIES:- the use of any products, including Scullcap or Valerian, which changes a cats normal appearance or physical reaction is forbidden at GCCF Shows and will lead to disqualification under Section 4 Rule 14.
