'Tis the season of celebrations! As we gather together during this holiday time, we can reflect on the past year and recognize the many blessings in our lives. No doubt the year had its share of challenges, but by focusing on the positive, we can find joy and peace. We are incredibly grateful to all of our supporters who have been with us this year. On behalf of all the animals we have served this year, a very warm thank you!! In case of emergency... AWC Board of Directors and Allegheny Spay and Neuter Clinic Staff We don't like to think of ways our lives or the lives of our pets could be threatened, but having a plan is essential for the best outcome in case an emergency arises. Gather information quickly during any type of threat, but be cautious of the source of that information. Depending on the emergency, it may be best to shelter in place or to evacuate your home. Be prepared for each of these very different situations. Mentally walk through the steps you would take, and be aware that it may be difficult to stay calm during an actual emergency. The following is a concise guide from the ASPCA to consider for the safety of your pet. Food & Water At least 3 days worth in airtight containers for each pet, plus bowls and a manual can opener Medications Several days worth in a childproof container, clearly labeled with name, dose and strength

2 Shelter List of local boarding facilities, hotels/motels or nearby friends or family who will allow you to stay with your pet or even take care of your pet during an emergency Carrier Lightweight crate or carrier to ease transportation and keep pet from bolting Leash Leash and collar or harness with current ID information (address, phone and address, microchip number) securely attached Comfort Items Pets frequently are frightened during disasters, and a familiar toy or bedding can be comforting Sanitation Include litter or newspapers as well as litter box for cats plus a stash of plastic bags to clean up after pets Pet First Aid Kits are easy to assemble using the items suggested by the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center; they can also be purchased online or at pet-supply stores Crucial Information Your veterinarian's name, office name and phone number Phone number and address of local animal control, boarding facilities, local veterinary emergency clinics and the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center ( ) Copy of pet's medical record, rabies registration, and a current picture Copy of pet s microchip number and name & phone number of company it s registered with Note: While much of this information may be kept on your phone or portable computer, keeping a paper copy in a waterproof bag is advisable. Also consider having a way to recharge electronic devices in case power is out. Action Plan Agree with family or roommates where to meet if you're not together when disaster strikes, and make sure everyone knows where emergency supplies are located ASPCApro.org We love a happy ending! While we may have our hearts broken when hearing about abandoned or abused animals, there are plenty of stories that will warm your heart. In January of this year, a feisty little terrier named Spencer entered the SPCA as a stray. His right front leg was injured and deformed, such that it was of no use to him. After waiting for months, he found a very special home with a compassionate employee of the Spay & Neuter Clinic. After months of consideration, his leg was amputated, as advised by a veterinarian. After a smooth recovery, he continues to thrive at home, where he loves to take walks and play with his three cat brothers.

3 Educational Opportunities One of the main goals of the AWC is to be a resource and provide information and education to the community about pet care. Whether it s working with a group of 4H teens to discuss the need for spay/neuter, speaking to a group of adults in the community about Lyme Disease, or working with area youth to help lessen the frequency of dog bites, to name a few, there are individuals available to speak to your group about animals and their care. Watson is a fun little guy who enjoys exploring outside and sniffing everything he could possibly imagine. He loves everyone he meets and would make a great addition to just about any home. Bentley really enjoys playing fetch with anything you can throw! He loves getting attention and is such a big baby! Bentley is one loyal boy once he gets to know you. Color: grey/orange Gender: spayed female Size: small Maye is an adorable kitten. She came to us as a stray from the Karthaus area. Maye is a playful kitten who also loves snuggle. 5 Branch,Poppy,Smidge,Cooper and Creek were found stray in the Mahaffey area and the woman who found them was not able to keep them so they are waiting with us while we find them forever homes. These little kittens are full of energy and will keep their new families entertained with their silly antics. They all have nice personalities and when they have had their fill of play they're always looking for a lap or shoulder to snuggle on. These sweet little babies are ready to meet their forever families. If you have been thinking about adopting a kitten, there is no better time than the present. Gift certificates are available for spaying and neutering. Items can be dropped off at the clinic during business hours 8:00 AM 4:00 PM - Mondays/Tuesdays/Thursdays.
