1 MOBILE FARM VISIT PLAN MOBILE FARM VISIT PLAN - 5 minutes plus per animal & - 10 minutes plus per animal Choice of 3 of the following farm animals (depending on time of year): Jersey calf, sheep & lambs, Boer goat & kids, Pygmy goat & kids, Kunekune pig We will also bring: Hens, cockerels, ducks, rabbits (with babies if possible) We should be able to bring following farm animals (depending on time of year): Jersey calf, sheep & lambs, Boer goat & kids, Pygmy goat & kids, Kunekune pigs, American Bronze turkeys, Mediterranean Miniature donkey, Standard donkey, Miniature Shetland pony, various breeds of hens & cockerels, ducks, Continental Giant rabbits & Dwarf Lop Eared rabbits (with babies if possible) Aim: To allow children to interact with farm animals in a safe learning environment Objectives: 1. To ensure children are aware of the importance of hand washing to combat germs 2. To identify breeds of farm animals 3. To touch, feel & compare fleece, fur, feathers, bristles 4. To be aware of products in everyday use that are derived from animals 5. To be informed about animal welfare, animal husbandry & identification methods in UK farming Every Child Matters Be healthy Stay safe Enjoy and achieve Make a positive contribution Achieve economic well-being DIFFERENTIATION/SUPPORT - Literacy, Language, Numeracy (Applicable to all activities) Children with allergies: Do not touch any animal or surroundings depending on allergy type, but can ask/answer questions Children with special needs: Animals picked up allowing children to touch/stroke Literacy: Information signs to read, from simple name cards to detailed descriptions. Flash cards for younger children Language: Ask if children know names of animals in any other language. Point out the breeds from different countries Numeracy: Counting bags of wool Number of animals/legs in a pen Poultry: number of eggs Dairy calf: Number of milk cartons Religious views: Acknowledged/respected ask if any child or staff member wants to avoid certain breeds
