3 THE HILLS BUDGERIGAR AUCTION The Hills District Branch auction has built a reputation as an auction that supplies birds of tremendous quality. The club places the strongest emphasis on sourcing only the finest birds available for this event and hence numbers are strictly limited. The auction boasts a strong range of breeders who have had success at every level of competition. This includes numerous Australian National, State Challenge, BSNSW Annual Show and Club Grand Champion/Best in Show wins. We invite you to the HILLS BUDGERIGAR AUCTION and to take the opportunity of being able to buy top quality birds from the studs of some of Australia s finest breeders. TRANSPORT For interstate visitors flying into Sydney we have arranged a morning pickup service from the airport to our auction venue. This service will depart the airport sharply at 8:00am so please book flights accordingly. Please take into consideration possible delays caused by fog during this time of the year when making bookings. There will be no charge for this service but places will be limited so it is absolutely essential that you book your spot as soon as possible. Failure to do so might mean you miss out. For those wishing to attend the auction we are happy to provide information on local accommodation and provide directions on how to get to the auction venue. For those unable to attend we can assist with bidding. This can be done by setting a limit for any lots prior to the auction. We then have somebody bid on your behalf to that limit. Of course if the bird sells for an amount under your limit you only pay that amount. If the bird goes over your limit then obviously you miss out. Alternatively, we can setup telephone bidding for you on the day of the auction. You then have the ability to listen in on any of the lots you may be interested in and bid via the telephone. For any purchases made by people not able to attend the auction the club will supply a suitable freight box and then arrange transport to the airport for your birds, both of these at no cost to the purchaser. The cost of freight and collection at the destination airport will however, be the responsibility of the purchaser. Payment needs to be arranged in advance but can be made by credit card (no surcharge), direct deposit into our bank account or by cheque (no birds to leave until cheques have cleared). IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR INTERSTATE TRAVELERS Australian Air Express at Sydney airport closes at 3:00pm on Saturdays so we suggested that all interstate visitors that intend returning home with birds should have them at the Australian Air Express counter no later than 2:30pm (phone Australian Air Express on to make your own reservations). Birds must be booked in one and a half hours before the flight time. Alternatively, birds can be left with our carers along with a suitable travel cage and we will organise to freight the birds at your expense as soon as possible the following week. 4 BREEDERS PROFILES John Barden has been breeding budgerigars for over twenty years concentrating on Normal, Cinnamons, Opalines, Spangles, John represented NSW at the 2007 years Nationals in the Spangle class, 2 nd placed Opaline and 4 th placed Normal Grey at 2011 Nationals at Canberra and has won many awards locally with his most recent success being, Best Opposite Sex Young, Best Normal Grey & Best Opaline Newcastle 2011, Best Normal Grey, Central Coast 2011 & Best Opaline Hills 2011, Grand Champion & Best Cinnamon Grey, Spangle, AOSV Opaline at Central Coast 2011 Young Bird Show, Best Opposite Sex at Hunter Branch, Midstate & New England 2012 Annual Shows. John Boss was a well known very successful breeder in Sth Queensland before transferring to NSW where he has continued with much success on the NSW Show Bench. John also ran 4th with a Lutino at the Adelaide National 2014, Grand Champion at Newcastle & Midstate 2014 Annual shows, Champion Opposite Sex AA & Res. Young hen at Shoalhaven 2014 Annual. MARIO CAPASSO After nearly 40 years breeding of Danish Pieds, I have decided to move the vast majority of them and try some new varieties, including Dark Eyed Clear (so many still breed the old Recessive). All my older birds have already moved to new homes. As such, what I see as the best of my 2014 rung birds have been retained for The NSW Team Selections and are now being made available for sale in the 2015 Hills Auction. None of the birds have been bred with. I believe the line is unique in as much it is not carrying any other varieties and is affectively pure normal. It has produced several NSW State Rep birds, including the last 3 in a row and a National Winner. This is a great opportunity for anyone trying to start out in the variety or indeed improve their line. WALLY CAPPER After breeding Budgerigars since 1987 Wally Capper has represented his State with over 20 birds and 10 different Varieties at the ANBC Shows, winning 4 Titles 1st with a Cinnamonwing in 2003, with a Greywing in 2009 followed up by another Greywing winner in 2013 also with a Lacewing in Main Varieties bred are Normals,Dominant Pieds, Spangles and a limited number of pairs of Greywings & Lacewings and in the last few years slowly adding the Violet factor for colour enhancement throughout the Stud, most birds Pedigree s can be traced back to a mixture of all the top Australian Breeders and the big name Imports. All birds printed Pedigree s will be supplied on request PETER DODD is one of the dominant forces in the Blackeyed Self variety in Australia. With countless State Team representatives he has on three occasions gone on to take out the top award at the National Championships with this variety. The strength in the Dodd stud extends beyond this variety and has been demonstrated by his win with an Opaline also at the National Titles. He has won countless major awards including the much sort after BS NSW Grand Champion prize. In 2003 Peter once again demonstrated the strength of his stud taking out, among other major awards Grand Champion at the Royal Easter Show for the fourth time from four attempts, giving Peter a 100% success record at this event. In 2005 he represented BS NSW at the National with Spangle, Dominant Pied and Blackeyed Self colour,

5 culminating with third place in the Blackeyed Self class. In 2006 he had two birds selected in the BS NSW State Team, resulting in 2 nd place at the National in the Blackeyed Self class. Cec and Brenda Gearing 2015 National results: 1 st and 5 th Albino. 1 st Spangle AOSV. 2 nd, 6 th and 8 th Recessive Pied. 4 th Double Factor Spangle. Plus some minor placings. These resulted in our induction into the Hall of Fame (the first West Australians!) Unfortunately, D-O-B and recurring cancer have necessitated Brenda & me cutting back numbers of our small stud. As long time Hills members, we are offering birds from the top shelf in support of the auction. MICK GEARING has been breeding Budgerigars since childhood, but due to work commitments had to stop, but returned to the hobby around 15 years ago. My birds are based on a few bloodlines that I have bought from around the country. Highlights are numerous. Positions at the Nationals, 3 rd highest point scorer overall at the Geelong National. My Grey s got 4 th & 9 th at Geelong, my Cinnamon got 3 rd, my Cinnamon Opaline got 2 nd. 4 th place in the Cinnamons at Toowoomba won the State Show & in the Metro Club Championships took out the top 5 placings in the Young birds & the top 3 placings in the Adults. In 2014 had several birds represent the State at the National. 1 st in the Opaline AOSV. 5 th in the s, 8 th in the Grey s, 11 th in the Greys, 9 th in the Clearwings, 12th in the Cinnamons, 7 th in the D/F Spangles, 5 th in the Opalines, 7 th & 8 th in the Lacewings, 8 th in the Fallows. The 2015 National, received numerous placings, this years State Show, received Champion Bird, Reserve Champion & in the Young Bird Derby, I took out the top 5 placings. I breed most varieties. Henry (South Queensland) Since 1990 Henry has been Australia s most successful breeder at National level, having won more National awards than any other breeder in the country. Since 1990 he has had 32 National Champions, 29 seconds and 21 thirds, along with countless minor placings. In total Henry has won an incredible 39 National Champions, whilst missing five Nationals, when he was a National Judge. In the last eighteen years, including the five years he was ajudge, Henry has had an amazing 218 birds benched in the South Queensland National team. In 2004 Henry was the first breeder admitted to the ANBC Hall of Fame. His success has been obtained with Normal s, Greys and Blues, Dominant Pieds, Yellowfaced Blues, Opalines, Red Eyes, Cinnamons, Spangles, clearwings and in the Hens class. The stud is based on Mannes but also contains many English bloodlines including, Sadler, Moffat, Binks, Pilkington, Snell, Sherman, Topliss, Watts, Wheeler, Norris, Wheatley and Cox. These lines have been blended together over many years to form the super stud it is today. ABI HAIDER has been breeding for the past 33 years and has won many Grand Championships including BS NSW & Hills. He has represented NSW 10 times at Nationals with 3 Light s, 2 Normal Blues, 2 Cinnamons, 1 Albino, 1 lutino and 1 Clearbody. His best stock is best on Binks bloodlines. MARK HAWKE has been breeding exhibition Budgerigars for 20 years and has had plenty of success on the show bench, winning numerous Grand Champion and Variety awards. Mar has represented NSW at National level on ten occasions, notching up his first two wins last year in Adelaide. Albino and Hens. Varieties Mark has shown at the National level are, Albino, Spangle, Cinnamon, AOSV Spangle, Yellow Face, Dominant Pied and Fallow. ALAN KENT has Champion Status in Queensland and is a three time ANBC winner, Spangle 2013 and 2009 and Hen 2004 he also has two second placings and two third placings as well as numerous other placings over more than twenty years for both NSW and QLD. His quality line bred stud based originally on Moffat and Mannes bloodlines is considered to be amongst the best in QLD. Alan has followed up his ANBC win last year with Champion Young bird and Champion Opposite Sex young bird awards at the Wynnum, Pine Rivers and Ipswich shows. 6 IAN & KATHY MANTON have been breeding budgerigars for approximately 30 years and have always been very active members of the BSNSW Inc. Both are Life Members of the BSNSW for their contributions to the Society over many years. Kathy is a NSW Senior Panel judge and has served on NSW Colour & Standards for some 17 years. Whilst not prolific exhibitors, their birds always are highly competitive on the show bench, having won numerous Major Awards and Best of Variety in Show Awards across every variety they breed. They ve recently won two Grand Champion Awards with two different birds. Main varieties bred are Normals, Cinnamonwings, Spangles and Clearwings. They have had numerous birds represent NSW at the ANBC Nationals, including a 5th placed Spangle AOSV hen at last year s National. JAMES MATTHEWS With his win at this year s Hills Branch and Macarthur Annual Shows James has now won 10 Grand Champion awards at BSNSW shows. He has had a number of birds represent NSW at the Nationals with his best result to date being 3 rd at the 2013 Nationals. In 2015 his birds came 5 th and 9 th in AOSV Opaline. In the first 4 months of this year James attended 6 BSNSW shows, winning 15 major awards with 7 different birds. Cinnamon and Spangle are the cornerstone varieties of his aviary and feature heavily in the birds listed in the auction. Even the birds that aren t visual have come through one or both of these varieties. andrew mcfarland I have bred Budgerigars over the years several times but recently decided to concentrate on Show Budgerigars and was lucky enough to acquire the bulk of Glen and Tania Sinclair s Stud of birds which I had a chance to study their bloodlines. I have continued this line into my fourth breeding season and have obtained reasonable results along the way in showing my birds. My outcrosses have been carefully selected from the same studs and bloodlines that Glen used over his eighteen years of creating this line of birds. This G & T Sinclair line is predominately a Watson line of birds from Mannes imports with a sprinkling of outcrosses from, Gazzard, & Ault bloodlines. Every bird in my stud is now related to one particular cock bird from Watson blood & mostly from one hen he was paired to, even though he was paired to several hens. The birds are improving on the bench & hopefully will continue to get much better over the next few breeding seasons. Allen Reid has a stud based on the finest English and German bloodlines. In 35 years of breeding and exhibiting, Allan has taken many top awards, including many Grand Champions. The most notable of these was his win at the BS NSW Annual Show against 1500 birds. Whilst Allen no longer attends shows as frequently as he once did, he still maintains a stud of Budgerigars of exceptional quality with occasional outcrosses of super birds from the aviaries of Garry Gazzard, Bob, Clint Ault, Mark Fellows. Cec. Gearing, Ray Welshman, Sheppard and Flanagan, Ken Dunk and Matt Campbell. Recent show results for 2014 include, Champion Opposite Sex Any Age with DF Yellow hen at Hills Annual. Best Blue and Best dominant Pied at Hills Annual. 4 th Reserve Champion Cock and 3 rd Reserve Champion Hen at the BS NSW show. Recent show results for 2015 include BS NSW Annual Show, Champion Young Opposite Sex, Reserve Champion Any Age cock and hen, 4 th Reserve Champion Any Age hen, 2 nd Reserve Champion Open Young hen, 4 th Reserve Champion Open Young cock, BOV Violet in Show, BOV Lutino in show, BOV Dominant Pied in Show, Best Collection in Show, BOV Open Young Grey, BOV Any Age Opaline AOSV.

7 JOHN SCOBLE His stud for over 60 years has always aimed at producing the modern exhibition budgerigar. Constantly winning major awards with most varieties was reflected at the recent 2015 Illawara Branch Annual Show by winning 10 out of the 11 major awards on offer including 6 BOV awards with just 15 entries. 8 AUCTION RULES 1. Each Person will be required to register prior to entering the auction room. Each person will receive a bidder s number. The bidder s number will be required to purchase any lots at auction and must be shown to the auctioneer after the fall of the hammer. 2. Judging sticks and carry cages will not be allowed into the auction room. The birds must not be interfered with or subjected to sticks, pens or similar objects. NO SMOKING will be permitted in the auction room at all times. 3. All lots will be submitted in the order in which they appear in the catalogue; however, if necessary the vendor reserves the right to make any alterations, additions or deletions to this order. 4. All conditions and warranties expressed or implied by law are hereby excluded and as all lots are open for inspection prior to commencement of the sale, the same are sold with all faults, if any, therefore no compensation shall be made in respect of any fault or imperfection or error of description of any lots sold or otherwise. Upon the fall of the hammer each lot shall be at the purchaser s risk. 5. Subject to the vendor having the right to bid, the highest bidder shall be the purchaser, and in the event of any dispute arising the lot in dispute shall be put up again and the auctioneer s decision shall be final. 6. The auctioneer reserves the right to accept or refuse any bid on birds without having to state the reason or reasons thereof. 7. After the fall of the hammer no party will be allowed to retract his/her bid. 8. Telephone bidding will be available provided PRIOR ARRANGEMENTS have been made. Payment arrangements must be confirmed prior to the auction. 9. Payment for the goods on the day shall be by CASH, MASTERCARD, VISA unless prior arrangements have been made. There will be no surcharge for Credit purchases. Personal cheques will not be accepted on the day of the auction without prior arrangement. 10. Successful purchasers of lots will be required to take their purchases with them before or at the completion of the auction. 11. If any successful bidder shall fail to pay for their purchases on the day, the vendor or his agents have the right to resell the lot in any manner they think proper. 12. Purchases may be collected prior to the completion of the auction. Receipt of purchases must be obtained from the cashier upon payment of the lot, then proceed to the allocated collection point with own carry cage and evidence of purchase. The purchaser will be required to remove the bird/s from the sale cage and transfer it/them to your own cage. The vendor, his agent, the auctioneer or any staff will not be handling the birds. It is the sole responsibility of each purchaser to handle his/her own birds at collection.
