1 POULTRY DEPARTMENT P Superintendent Vern Holzhueter pinegrov@yahoo.com GENERAL INFORMATION All poultry except waterfowl and pigeons must be negative to the rapid whole-blood plate test for pullorum and typhoid diseases applied within 90 days prior the opening date of exhibition, provided that no test shall be required on poultry originating directly from the parent stock tested and found negative with the preceding 12 months. - Testing for typhoid and pullorum will be done for a nominal fee, but must be arranged in advance by calling the superintendent at least 4 weeks before the fair. For birds hatched in current year, no testing is required if you get a CERTIFICATE OF ORIGIN from your hatchery (which they will provide if you request it). If you have any questions, please call the superintendent at least 3 weeks in advance of the fair. Entry Times: Wednesday from 4pm to 9pm Thursday from 9am 3pm. ADVANCE REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED AND MUST BE RECEIVED BY FRIDAY PRIOR TO FAIR WEEK (along with the health papers, certificate of origin, testing form). No more than 2 entries can be made in any one lot by the same exhibitor. No exhibitor can make more than 50 entries. All birds must be identified by individual numbered leg bands. Required by State of Minnesota Dept. of Animal Health.. Release time is 5:00 pm on the closing day of the fair, Sunday, with all birds removed from the fairgrounds by 8:00pm. All exhibits will be under control of the superintendents. Sales allowed only under supervisor direction at the end of the fair. The supervisors reserve the right to reject any entries. 4-H entries will not be allowed to compete in open class, however, 4-H members may make separate entries in open class. This association will use every care and precaution in the management and care of the birds, but will not be responsible for any loss or damage. 84

2 All eggs laid during the exhibition will be collected as property of the association. Any specimen showing symptoms of sickness or parasites will be removed from the fairgrounds. Exhibitors handling any specimens on exhibit other than their own shall forfeit all claims they may have on the premium. Exhibitor will not be allowed to change birds from one coop to another without permission of the supervisor. Judging will be done according to the American Standard of Perfection. Display cards may be used after the awards have been placed. All young birds exhibited must be 12 weeks of age or older or they will be barred from competition. Decision of the supervisor will be final. Terms for chickens are defined as follows: - Male bird hatched prior to current year. - Female bird hatched prior to current year. erel - Male bird hatched during current year - Female bird hatched during current year Trio - One young male and two young females. Birds that compete singly cannot compete in trios and vice-versa. Premiums will be paid on the following basis for poultry, waterfowl and pigeons.
