1 Meet the Animals Join the Kingwood Park High School (Texas) FFA students as they explore different species and breeds of animals and what it takes to raise them. Students will learn about the properties and characteristics of animals, how animals change over time, and the basic needs of the animals. Featured animals will be: cattle, lambs, pigs, chickens, turkeys, goats and rabbits. Your class will get an up-close look at several species of animals and your students will get to see them, hear them, and ask questions. 5 Six Degrees of the Sun Game Directions: Small groups: Print the pictures and cut them apart. The sun is the first card. Have students put the rest of the cards in order of how they connect back to the sun. Whole class: Print the pictures and cut them apart. Print enough copies so that there are cards for every student. Make sure there is only one Sun card. Assign one student to become the sun and have him/her stand in the middle of the room. Ask the remainder of the students to draw a card out of the pile. The card will have a picture on it that links to another picture/word and will eventually come back to the sun. Give the students ten minutes to find classmates so they can trace their energy back to the sun. For instance, a student who has a card with a picture of a hamburger will find the student who has a picture of a cow, who will find a student with a picture of grass. Together, they will line up in order (i.e., grass, cow, and hamburger) next to the sun. Eventually, the class should form rays around the sun in their lines. The chicken was one of the first domestic animals, appearing in China around 1400 B.C. A hen can lay about 250 eggs per year. Storing eggs in their cartons helps keep them fresh. A chicken takes 21 days to hatch from an egg. A hen can live up to 20 years. Chickens have no teeth and swallow their food whole. 5
