9 COURTNEY ELLIOTT CERTIFICATE II IN EQUINE STUDIES VETiS Horses have been a big part of Courtney s life and when she saw Box Hill s Certificate in Equine Studies, she knew it was for her; a chance to help turn her passion into a career. Horses have been part of my life for over ten years. When I saw the course I thought what a great opportunity to learn more about what I love doing outside of school. I want to become a vet in the end. Courtney works at a riding school and she has also found the theory learnt in first year, combined with the more practical side of the course in second year, has helped her with her instructing. I work at a riding school. We teach theory to the younger kids and I m more confident about teaching them the right things now. I know that I ve got the evidence and explanations to give to them. Courtney is now enrolled in a three year Animal and Vet BioScience course. On completion of this she plans to go on to a Doctorate of Vet Medicine, which is a four year course - so studying has become a significant part of Courtney s life. I have gained a lot more confidence in myself and my abilities, and the fact that I can help other people with their horses and put information across is much easier. It has also given me the foundations for my next course says Courtney. The practicals held twice a term allow us to apply the theory we ve learnt in real world situations. In addition to studying and caring for her horses, Courtney also volunteers at her local pony club and assists with events and camps. The practicals held twice a term allow us to apply the theory we ve learnt in real world situations. For further course details visit boxhill.edu.au Animal Studies 7
