10 STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES Commitment from government to ensure sustainability of Prevention, control, eradication of zoonosis and EID through annual budget as One Health is a collective effort from various ministries under the coordination of PMK Mechanism for accessing, sharing and analyzing data from animal and human health and wildlife is in place Institutionalization of the One Health Platform to the government structure (KEMENKO PMK) Established and legalized a coordination mechanism for zoonosis and EID outbreaks using the One Health Coordination Guidelines Strong collaboration with international organizations and donor agencies

11 NEXT STEPS Need to expand the scope of KNPZ to include AMR and Food Safety Decentralized country, needs a commitment from sub-national levels Maximize the role of the other sectors that play crucial roles during outbreaks are National Disaster Agency (BNPB), Ministry of Village Development, and Ministry of Home Affairs, among others, aside from conventional agencies (MOA, MOH and MOEF)

14 BANGLADESH ONE HEALTH PLATFORM Multi-tier, formal, government funded; result of advocacy of One Health Bangladesh and inclusive Field Epidemiological Training Program Leadership rotates among partner ministries and departments. Members include observers from international partners; secretariat is operated by seconded technical officials from three ministries. Role of One Health Platform in GHSA implementation : Develop shared vision with leadership and key stakeholders on importance of multi-sectoral coordination mechanism; assist government partners during outbreaks; Initiate a One Health approach to control zoonoses

15 PLATFORM ACTIVITIES Regular Activities of Platform: Advise GOB on OH issues, networking, information sharing, planning, develop and implement M&E tool, disease and research prioritization, development of joint surveillance, outbreak investigation and response on zoonotic diseases. Coordination is exemplified by current collaborative effort of BLRI, DLS, IEDCR with the support from GHSA USCDC Platform support to other GHSA action packages :As a mutli sectoral entity the platform can support in other GHSA packages like AMR, Surveillance, Reporting and Information

16 STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES Strong Advocacy from One Health Bangladesh for institutionalization of One Health Approved One Health Strategy with a dedicated component for One Health Governance and Program Management Commitment from government and International partner to platform (human capital, funding, etc) Differing level of commitments and capacities across the sector Reflection of recognition by involving One Health platform is weak

17 NEXT STEPS Advocacy for using One Health platform for joint planning, preparedness and response Generate evidence of advantage of platform (economic analysis, case studies, after action review, etc.)

20 KENYA ONE HEALTH PLATFORM One Health Technical Committee (OHTC) and a Secretariat the Zoonotic Diseases Unit (ZDU) The OHTC meets quarterly ZDU is a collaborative office nested between Ministry of Health and Ministry of Agriculture Livestock and Fisheries with a permanent staff from both ministries Coordinates joint strategies and activities on zoonotic diseases (rabies elimination, anthrax investigation, response)

21 KENYA ONE HEALTH PLATFORM The ZDU coordinates GHSA in general and the Zoonotic Disease Action Package in particular ZDU successfully coordinated the JEE exercise in March 2017

22 PLATFORM ACTIVITIES Regular activities Coordination: disease outbreaks, preparedness and response, policy Share information on public health events w a One Health approach Advocacy Joint proposals for resource mobilization, operational research Quarterly Meetings of ZDTWG Other GHSA action packages support: New TORs of the platform spell out broader areas of One Health antimicrobial resistance, food safety, environmental health and other public health issues
