1 2016 UAH Atibiograms Uiversity of Alberta Hospital Cross Cacer Istitute Stollery Childre s Hospital Departmet of Laboratory Medicie ad Pathology
2 Itroductio The atibiograms preseted herei represet cumulative aual atimicrobial susceptibility rates of the most commo microbial pathoges isolated from cliical specimes submitted to the Uiversity of Alberta Hospital (UAH) Cliical Microbiology Laboratory. This report represets the 2016 local susceptibility rates at the Uiversity of Alberta Hospital, Stollery Childre s Hospital, ad the Cross Cacer Istitute, ad is to be used as a resource to direct empiric atimicrobial therapy. Atibiograms are geerated by compilig susceptibility results from all first cliical isolates of a specific pathoge recovered from a idividual patiet per caledar year. That is, oly the first isolate, regardless of specime type or body site, is selected for aalysis. Susceptibility rates for orgaisms represeted by less tha 30 isolates are ot icluded due to the limited statistical sigificace. The susceptibility testig methods used by the UAH Cliical Microbiology Laboratory iclude VITEK-2, gradiet diffusio, microbroth dilutio ad disk diffusio. Iterpretatio of susceptibility testig results is based o Cliical ad Laboratory Stadards Istitute (CLSI) guidelies. The data preseted herei is also available at the followig website: We would like to ackowledge the effort of the etire cliical microbiology techologist staff i geeratig the data cotaied i this documet. We would also like to ackowledge Dr. Darre Hudso, UAH, for his assistace with sythesizig atibiogram data. Iquiries may be directed to Dr. Tais Digle, ProvLab, at tais.digle@albertahealthservices.ca.
