If the Wool Grower Declaration Panel for the National Wool Declaration and for calculation of DMFR have been completed, the signatory warrants that (a) I am authorised to complete this Declaration and I confirm that all details contained in it are true and correct, having made all enquiries and (b) I submit to the Integrity Program comprising random desk audits and onfarm inspections.
3 Completion of the National Wool Declaration (NWD) Determine the order of shearing prior to completing the NWD. It is recommended that: Mobs with a higher Dark and Medullated Fibre risk are shorn last, Mobs of a different Mulesing Status can be kept separate, and/or The wool from mobs with similar characteristics can be combined as required especially; for example, oddment lines. To declare the DMFR and/or Mulesing Status for each mob (and line of wool): The Owner/Manager, preferably in consultation with the Woolclasser, in the NWD Section, must: Answer the question Has Mulesing 1 Ceased 2 (CM) on this property? Yes or No. Complete the NWD mob questions and sign the declaration. The Woolclasser, in the Specification section within the double lines, must list all Mobs (i.e. all Mob Numbers) used to make up each line of wool. Note: If Mulesing 1 has Ceased 2 on the property, CM will automatically be allocated to lines of wool from mobs that contain some (or all) mulesed sheep; that is, mobs that are not declared as NM. Background to the National Wool Declaration (NWD) Information provided in the National Wool Declaration is the responsibility of the Owner/Manager. The Owner/Manager must sign the Declaration. By completing this Declaration, the Owner/Manager acknowledges that: The Vendor s agent will catalogue the wool based on the statements you make, and buyers will in turn rely on those statements. This Declaration may be subject to random audit or inspection as part of the NWD-Integrity Program. Note: If the DMFR or Mulesing declaration is left blank for any mob or line of wool, then no DMFR Risk Rating or Mulesing Status will be recorded for the mob or any associated lines of wool. Definitions and Codes 1 Mulesing The removal of skin from the breech and/or tail of a sheep using mulesing shears. Source: Australian Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines for Sheep (draft). 2 Ceased Mulesing (CM) Wool from sheep where the property has ceased mulesing. A mob may contain mulesed sheep; but no sheep born on this property in the last 12 months have been mulesed at the time of this shearing. There must be no intention to mules in the future. 3 Non Mulesed (NM) All sheep in this mob have not been mulesed. 4 Pain Relief (PR) All sheep in this mob have been mulesed using a registered Pain Relief product. Each mob must be declared separately. Note: The NWD definition for PR applies at the mob level, not at the property level. 5 Contact with Shedding Breeds 6 Shedding Breeds 7 Record of Chemical Use Mated to, or run in the same paddock as shedding sheep/ lambs or their crosses. Breeds that shed fibre (e.g. Afrikaner, Awassi, Damara, Dorper, Karakul, Meatmaster, Persian, Van Rooy, Wiltipoll, Wiltshire Horn). If Yes (Y), details of mob, date, purpose and type and amount of cheical(s) must be recorded. If chemicals are not used, a record of this must also be kept. 4 Important Weighing your bales Maximum gross weight The maximum bale weight for wool of all descriptions is 204 kg (450lbs). Bales received into store over the maximum weight must be adjusted by the Broker. Each bale handled incurs a charge which will be debited to the Grower. Shed weights should not exceed 190 kg (419 lbs). Minimum gross weight The minimum bale weight for wool of all descriptions is 110 kg (243 lbs), with the exception of some speciality wool types, which may have a minimum gross weight of 90 kg (198 lbs). Do not exceed the recommended bale weights Branding your bales Doubt frequently arises in the wool shed as to the correct method of branding bales. Bales with labels Firstly, ensure the bale is folded with the label flap on top. It is an industry requirement for all details to be completed on the label using a stamp or a black permanent marking pen and the woolclasser s stamp. 1 Owner s Brand 2 Description of Wool 3 Bale Number 4 Registered Classer s Number 1 2 Brand FAIRVIEW Wool Description Bale Number Classer AAAM 29 AW The face of the bale must also be branded A Owner s Brand B Registered Classer s Number C Description of Wool D Bale Number E Destination Stencil F Dalcare Stencil (where applicable) Bales without labels Brand both the head and face of the bale.
