Aims & Objectives 1. Prevent, control, eradicate animal diseases and Provide diagnostic therapeutic, veterinary services. 2. Control & prevention of zoonotic diseases 3. Genetic improvement of livestock and poultry 4. Conserve and development of native breeds along with genetic mapping 5. Development of Fodder and Feed along with quality assurance. 6. Increase milk, meat, egg production with quality assurance. 7. Improve livestock production technologies 8. Encourage hygienic production system, processing and marketing milk, meat & eggs in the state. 9. Capacity building & human resource development

Improving Financial & nutritional security of socially & economically backward families through animal husbandry program 13. Managing livestock during natural calamities & disasters. 14.Implement animal welfare program. OBJECTIVES ARE ACHIEVED THROUGH THE FOLLOWING SERVICES 1. Providing Animal Disease Diagnostic Service, carryout Disease Surveillance Programme and conduct periodical mass vaccination program, 2. Carry out mass deworming program 3. Treating sick Animals, through veterinary institutions in the state. 4. Providing Artificial Insemination and Pregnancy Diagnosis in Cattle & Buffaloes. 5. Castrating non descript cattle and buffalo. 6. Managing state owned semen processing centers which are producing & supplying quality semen of superior genetic merit. 7. Establishing new veterinary institutions and upgrading institutions for providing quality animal health care services 8. Supplying Improved Breeding Ram lambs, Buckling, Piglets and improved domestic poultry. 9. Supplying Genetically superior Bulls of native breeds for breeding Maintained in state owned Livestock farms. 10.Supplying subsidized inputs in the form of improved verities of fodder seeds, root slips for growing quality fodder and post harvest equipments for efficient utilization of fodder. 11.Monitoring Quality of the Livestock and poultry feed, marketed in the state through, periodical laboratory testing of samples selected randomly. 12.Training farmers in feeding, breeding and improved husbandry practices along with extending financial assistance for procuring improved animals, and by providing organized milk marketing system.

5 13.Training of officers & technical staff of the department for rendering quality veterinary services. 14.Support institutions /organizations which are involved in research, development in the field of animal, dairy & veterinary sciences. 15.Support institutions /organizations such as pinjarapoles & goushalas which are involved in animal welfare programs. 16. Implementing poverty alleviation program of the government. 17.Implementing mitigation measures to check the effect of natural calamities & disasters ACTS, RULES AND ORDERS PERTAINING TO VETERINARY SERVICES I. ACTS:- 1. The Karnataka prevention of cow, slaughter and cattle preservation Act 1964 and Rules 1967: An Act to provide for the prevention of slaughter of cows, calves and cows and calves of she buffaloes and for the preservation of other cattle in the state. 2. The Karnataka Cattle Tresspass Act 1966 and the Karnataka Cattle tresspass Rules 1971: An Act to provide for the impounding of cattle damaging land or other property and for matters connected then with. 3. The Karnataka municipal corporation Act 1976 and Rules: An Act to consolidate and amend the laws relating to establishment of municipal corporations in the State of Karnataka. 4. The Karnataka Prevent of Animal Sacrifices Act 1959 and Rules: An Act to prevent animal sacrifices within the precincts of place of worship in the state Karnataka.

6 5. The Karnataka Live-stock improvement Act 1961 and Rules 1969: An act to provide for the improvement of Live-stock in the state of Karnataka. 6. The Livestock importation Act 1968: An act to make better provision for the regulation of the importation of livestock. 7. The Wild life protection Act 1972 and the Wild life (Protection) (Karnataka) Rules 1973: An Act to provide for the protection of wild animals and birds and for matters connected there with or ancillary or incidental then to. 8. The Prevention and Control of Infectious and Contagious Diseases in Animals Act 2009: An act to provide for the prevention control and eradication of infectious and contagious diseases affecting animals, for prevention of outbreak or spreading of such diseases from one state to another and to meet the International obligations of India for facilitating import and export of animals and animal products and matters. Karnataka Poultry and Livestock Feeds(Regulation of Manufacturer and sale) Order 1987 amendment order to regulate manufacture and sale of cattle and poultry feeds. 12.The Prevention of cruelty to Animals Act 1960: An act to prevent the inflection of unnecessary pain or suffering on animals and for that purposes to amend the law relating to the prevention of cruelty to animals. II. KARNATAKA POULTRY AND LIVESTOCK FEEDS (REGULATION OF MANUFACTURE AND SALE ) ORDER 1988 AND AMENDMENT ORDER 1991, 1992: This order is enforced during 1988 in the state under essential commodities Act, 1955 (Central Act 10 of 1955). Karnataka has become model to the other states in the country in bringing this enforcement order as first state. The Commercial Livestock and Poultry feed manufacturers/distributors should compulsorily possess license in order to produce and sell the feeds of that nutritional requirements specified by the Licensing Authority. The Poultry and Livestock owners have been assured the availability of well balanced quality feeds through this order, thereby helping to exploit the genetic production potentiality of the crossbred Poultry and Livestock.The quality control wing of Poultry and Livestock feeds with Joint Director (development) as the Licensing Authority is enforcing this Regulatory Order in the state
